《Supreme Battle Mage》28- The Demon

Ruvyn slowly walked towards Sozgadan.
“Aww, how cute. The baby elf got mad?”
Sozgadan said mockingly.
“But I don’t have time to play with little kids, so don’t resent me for killing you.”
Sozgadan took a step forward and suddenly appeared in front of Ruvyn. He swung his sword at Ruvyn. He aimed to pierce Ruvyn’s heart, but the ground was still shaking, and before his sword could reach Ruvyn, vines grew from the ground and built a wall between Ruvyn and Sozgadan’s sword. Sozgadan’s smile became wider.
“I almost feel bad for y-”
*CLANG!*
His eyes widened in shock. Even the roots and vines of King Algor were like butter in front of Sozgadan. But now, what was that? His sword bounced back from the vines that a kid was controlling. He tried to strike again, but the result didn’t change. His smile gradually disappeared and was replaced with anger.
“A mere kid dare to look at me with that expression!”
Sozgadan shouted in anger. He was about to release his mana and burn the vines, but his legs got caught by the vines before he could do anything. After that, he realized that he couldn’t release his mana even if he wanted to. He desperately tried to burn the vines, but his mana was getting drained by them. Sozgadan began to panic and struggled to free himself, but his arms also got caught in the process. Ruvyn stood before him, and their eyes met. The hateful look on Ruvyn’s eyes was not something to scoff at.
“You lowlife bastard!”
Sozgadan shouted in desperation while the vines were lifting him in the air. Ruvyn smiled after seeing how much he struggled.
“Good, that desperate look in your eyes. I want to see it more!”
Ruvyn raised his hand in the air, and behind him, vines grew from the ground and began to gather above his hand. They took the form of a big lance. Before anyone could say anything more, the lance pierced Sozgadan’s heart and instantly sucked his remaining mana. In seconds, all that was left from Sozgadan was his skeleton. Even the bones crumbled, turned into dust, and mixed with the wind.
Algor was still on his one knee, watching the scene in disbelief. He knew that Ruvyn wasn’t that strong right now. That was the effect of the flow. There were two ways to enter flow for the first time. One of them was through training, and the other was out of your control. The major cause for it was the overflowing emotions. In Ruvyn’s case, the trigger was his fear and insuppressible rage.
If you enter flow with the second way, you won’t have control over the overflowing mana. Your power will increase in direct proportion to your potential, but the effect won’t last long, and it will put a lot of strain on the body. Ruvyn turned towards the city walls, where Liam flew. Something was coming towards him. It was Ruvyn’s vines carrying Liam’s motionless body. They carefully put Liam on the ground in front of Ruvyn.

He put his hand on Liam, and green lights enveloped him. Liam’s dented chest began to heal, and his complexion gradually improved. Ruvyn took a sigh of relief. This time he slowly turned towards Algor and began to walk, but after taking a step forward, he felt all the power in his body disappear, and he began to fall. Even though the pressure that made Algor stay on one knee disappeared with the magical power of Ruvyn, the vines protected their presence, which confirmed Algor’s suspicions. Vines caught Ruvyn before he hit the ground. No one was controlling the vines, they were moving by their own wills. Algor slowly approached the unconscious Ruvyn.
‘How? How can he exist?’
The vines stood in front of him. They were ready to protect Ruvyn against an attack, but the immeasurable power inside them was gone. They were just ordinary vines now.
‘I thought they extincted. How can a high elf that is loved by nature exist?’

Floyd flinched for a second after seeing Ian’s black eyes, but he didn’t stop. Ian watched him with a blank expression. He didn’t try to defend or dodge. When Floyd’s blade aimed at Ian’s neck, Chase was about to intervene, but he stopped.
‘Ohh, his eyes changed. Let’s observe more.’
That was Idarin’s idea. He wanted to see the potential of the kids by pushing them to the absolute corner. Chase was watching because of that. He didn’t feel like Ian was about to die, so he waited.
“What?”
Floyd aimed at Ian’s neck, but all he could cut was the empty air. Now he was behind Ian, and Ian was unscathed. He quickly turned around and swung his blade to Ian, but again, like Ian wasn’t there, the blade went through him. Floyd refused to accept the situation and continuously tried to cut Ian, but it was futile.
‘What the hell is this situation?’
That made Chase surprised as hell.
“Tsk.”
Floyd clicked his tongue.
‘What the hell is this?’
He put some distance between them and saw Chase. When he was just about to move towards Chase and ignore Ian, he heard a voice from behind.
“Isn’t it funny? I wanted to make you suffer for what you did in the past eight years. And now, here we are.”
Floyd quickly turned around and saw Ian’s back. Ian wasn’t even looking at him, and Floyd couldn’t sense him before Ian began to talk.
‘He… What the hell? I forgot he was there for a second.’
This time, it was Chase’s turn to watch what was happening in disbelief after Algor. Floyd frowned. He desperately tried to stab Ian again, but Ian disappeared instantly like he never existed.

‘Holy, this isn’t a shadow step. His existence completely disappeared.’
Chase began to smile.
“Tch. Tch. Tch. And here I thought we could talk.”
Ian was behind Floyd again.
“D-don’t mess with me! What are you?!”
Floyd turned back again, and their eyes met. He felt like he was about to be lost in the darkness in Ian’s eyes.
“Me?”
Ian grinned and brought his face closer to Floyd’s.
“I’m the void.”
Floyd didn’t even see what happened. The last thing he saw was Ian, who was turning his back to him. He felt the warmth of the blood gushing out from the hole where his heart was. It wasn’t healing, and his world slowly faded into darkness. Ian turned towards Jay and Harold, but he wasn’t moving, and the half-demons that was ignoring him until now began to run towards him again. Chase quickly approached.
“Hey!”
Then he saw the reason why Ian wasn’t moving. His eyes were back to normal, but they were looking empty. He was unconscious.
‘I need to get him somewhere safe.’
Chase was smiling unconsciously. The half-demons around kept attacking relentlessly and didn’t let Chase catch a breath. Then, while he was slaying the demons without a rest, another unexpected thing happened. The half-demons around suddenly split in half and fell onto the ground. They weren’t healing back.
“Hahahaha!”
Chase quickly turned towards the source of the laugh. Someone was standing next to Ian. He slapped the back of Ian’s head.
“Good job, good job! Kids these days grow too quickly.”
He carried Ian on his shoulder.
“Okay, we found one.”
While he was looking around, he saw Chase.
“Hey, have you seen my kid? Red-haired, carries a weird black staff, bandaged arms?”
Before Chase could answer, another person appeared next to Wilbert.
“Ahh. You know this isn’t the war I’ve imagined.”
“Why weren’t you here in the first place?”
“Can’t you see? It would be like taking candy from a baby. In short, boring.”
Idarin saw the wounded Chase and walked towards him. He knew Chase wasn’t someone to get hurt easily. Idarin thought it happened because of his request, so he healed him.
“That should do it.”
The wounds on Chase’s body completely disappeared since they weren’t that serious.
“Thanks. It seems like you were right.”
Idarin nodded with a smile.
“Hey, check him too.”
Wilbert handed Ian to Idarin.
“He is okay, don’t worry.”
Idarin pointed towards somewhere.
“Hey, he is your son’s team captain. Tell him that he can go all out now. Go!”
Idarin hit Wilbert’s back and commanded Wilbert with a playful tone.
“I’m not your pet.”
Wilbert moved towards there while pouting.

Aaron raised his glaive to block the incoming flames, but midway, they disappeared. Arkul wasn’t looking in Aaron’s direction, and his joyful expression was nowhere to be found now.
‘Sozgadan and Floyd… They lost?’
A vein popped up on his forehead.
‘It is not possible. Sozgadan is not someone to be stopped that easily. Something is wrong.’
He turned back towards Aaron again.
“Okay, playtime is definitely over this time.”
Arkul released his mana, not just Aaron but everyone in the kingdom felt the enormous pressure. Most of the kids, who are in the team of Allen and Lucas, lost the strength in their legs. And at that time, Arkul felt it. He lost the connection with most of the half-demons in an instant. But it didn’t end there. He also lost the connection with all the high-rank members of Silvershiv.
The sky seemed gloomy, and water drops slowly began to fall. The raindrops gradually increased both in speed and amount. In seconds, driving rain was pouring down from the sky. But the sound of the waterdrops wasn’t enough to suppress the incoming sound of the footsteps. Arkul and Aaron turned towards there.
“Aah, a good rain knows when to start.”
Wilbert appeared behind Aaron and said, even though he was the one who made rain.
“Step aside.”
“Victor…”
“I said step aside.”
The expression on Wilbert’s face was something that Aaron had never seen before, and he did as Wilbert told.
“Whoah, look who it is! Back for more?”
“Shut up. I’ll gauge your eyes out.”
“Yeah, yeah, everyone is mad at us, even though you caused us to go extinct.”
“Who made who extinct, you fucker. Demons still exist.”
‘And before you killed her, I was also married with one.”
Wilbert began to frown.
“But right now, there is only one demon here.”
He also released his mana.
“Let me show you who is it.”
Thunder roared, black clouds gathered above them. With a deafening sound, a bolt of lightning fell onto Arkul.

While not my first time writing, this is my first time throwing anything I've written at the tender mercies of the internet. All criticisms welcome. 2.) Just to inform people early: There is no evil corporation looking to control the world with VR, there is no Krueger-esque "if you die in the game, you die for real.", and this isn't a story of some OP harem-loving god of the system. Nothing wrong with those stories this just isn't one. This is a simple story about a guy playing a game and finally 3.) This story is extremely rough, i did very little editing, this is just me gauging interest really. oh, and English is my 1st language, if for some reason you find that important. Note 2) from now on Book 1 will exist in its entirety on Royal Road while Books 2 and 3 (and any others) will be released on Amazon. I want to thank everyone who has been reading and has taken this weird journey with me. I will continue to write in my spare time and will always be thankful to Royal Road for giving me a space to be creative. Thank you to everyone.
