《The Strongest Armor》Chapter 6: Don’t Cry Over Spilt Milk, It Could Have Been Whisky

In a luxurious room lay a young woman and an adorable baby on a giant bed. The bed itself would be large enough to fit 8 grown adults. The four posts were exquisitely carved with the sinister snakes, yet the pink silk fluttering about neutralized it’s intimidation.
The bedding itself was soft as a freshly shaven leg. Though, a more beautiful analogy would have created a more elegant image, such would do.
On the bedding itself layed Li Zimu, describing to himself the room as if he was a narrator.
He was still annoyed about the fact that his idiotic parents named him the same idiotic name once again. He thought he’d escape this curse of the name in another world, yet it followed him through.
His mother, laid sprawled beside him with no hint the elegance she once provided. Stroking his head, she muttered sweet words of comfort, not expecting him to understand.
But he does. His sealed presence left him increasingly frustrated. Watching his mother cry at softly at night, his heart ached.
However, even through all this, he was silently cultivating. No one would ever notice with his sealed presence, so at least he could increase his strength without suspicion.
That’s one worry off the list, in exchange for a dozen more.
When it comes to grinding, it’s not a matter of rushing through it in one night like that summer homework you never did as a child. It’s about doing it for as long as possible every day with patience like those stupid video games you played when you should have been doing your homework.
Indeed, within these few months, Li Zimu’s cultivation has increased a little.
The problem didn’t lie in his talents, his Main Character level background and genetics meant he had earth middle grade talent, according to the system.

In other words, he had what was known as ‘heavenly genius’ on this continent.
Even if his talent was trash, he could still accumulate credits to upgrade it through the system. From mortal lower grade to mortal middle grade would only cost 10 credits, and middle to upper 100. For Li Zimu to upgrade to earth upper grade would cost him 100 000 credits.
Grades were in the order of Heaven, Earth and Mortal, Heaven being the highest. Each grade had upper, middle and lower.
All that said, his impatient self had already been used to cultivating in the womb. The pure qi provided by his mother was extremely condensed and purified, causing his cultivation to soar.
Coming to the outside world, when he sensed the disgusting qi in the air, which was full of impurities, he almost cursed out loud.
His saving grace was that he couldn’t talk or his mother might have thought he was possessed. What newborn started cursing at three days old?
The impure qi was not only dirty, it was also sparse and difficult to gather.
If his body wasn’t barely formed and his spirit channels weak and barely formed, he might be able to cultivate faster. Breaking through to Channel opening in almost half a year wasn’t the speed of a grown, teenage heavenly genius. In fact, one could do so in 3 months.
As a baby, his whole body was small, hence, his Spirit Channels were definitely smaller as well.
Now that his cultivation was in channel opening stage, his manual stated he should be doing some hammering of his channels of something to slowly open the 108 meridians and strengthen them to be wider or something.
Not that Li Zimu cared, his only job was to grind and the system would do the rest. He could feel his cultivation speed increase slowly as he strengthened and widened his channels or when it takes a huge jump when he opens up a new meridian.

The last person to fully open 108 meridians died left this realm 300 years ago and ascended to the next place.
All those who did, or even came close, were all ‘heavenly geniuses’. Though, in Li Zimu’s point of view. ‘I have the system so I am the strongest. Did they have a cheat like me? Nah’
He simply awaited the system’s notices as the grind continued.
[Ding! New meridian opened: Meridian #3]
[Ding! Your cultivation levelled up, current cultivation: Channel Opening lv 3]
…
The sun peeked in from the windows announcing the arrival of dawn. The shadows of the trees outside danced on the bed.
Since he was born, Li Zimu has never been outside. He’s actually been quite curious as to what’s beyond the four walls of his room.
“Tap tap tap Knock Knock”
The butler, Old Bai, arrived. Lately, the only people he has gotten to know had been his parents and their old butler.
From the moment he saw him, Li Zimu labeled him as ‘that almost grandpa that all main characters had’.
From what he could tell, his parents weren’t simple people. Old Bai’s strength seemed extremely high, and he was only their head butler.
Actually, it didn’t take much to tell his new family wasn’t simple. The rich mansion they lived in was enough proof.
“Young Master, Young Madame, it’s breakfast time.”
Li Zimu’s mother, Lan Zhenya, yawned a greeting before falling back to sleep as if she just hit the snooze button.
Shortly after, Old Bai’s face emerged pushing a trolley with various foodstuffs.
Placing the dishes onto the table carefully, he carryings Li Zimu onto his baby chair and started to feed him his milk.
[Ding! Milk of Spirit Lake Iron Boar:
Upon consumption will strengthen the body. Great increase in strength and endurance.]
‘Ah it’s here again, my booster milk’
This was the main reason Li Zimu could determine his family wasn’t normal. He wasn’t an idiot with cannon fodder level intelligence, he was the great sage of webnovel wisdom.
Drinking down this tonic milk with a wry smile, he swore he’d quickly learn to talk so these idiotic parents could stop worrying over their son being crippled. And to request a private room, their flirting was just too… intense.
Thinking about last night, goosebumps emerged all over his body as his eyes turned a little moist. These changes naturally didn’t escape Old Bai’s eyes as he quickly put the milk away called a servant from the kitchen.
“Change the milk from today on, we’ll use the barbed-tail bear from now on.”
‘Old bai, the milk is fine. It’s my parent’s that’s the problem. Aiya.’

The Adventures of Alan

In his new reality, he will meet both friends and foe, he will seek knowledge, he will build power, and perhaps he will even find love again? Follow Alan through his adventures, and find out for yourselves how he deals with the challenges thrown at him by a new world, while struggling with the issues brought with him from his old one. * Author’s note: A fair warning. This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). I’ll aim for once a week to start with, and take it from there. Happy reading! Cover photo by Jeff Hire (/photographer/gun4hire-58415), from https://freeimages.com/.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."
