The maid was gazing at Yang but soon stopped and started writing into her book while she walked around the area. She was walking around Yang, and soon she flipped a page and stopped walking because she was right in front of Yang.
Maid: Alright, let's see how things have been altered.
The maid moved closer to Yang and was looking into his left eye. She drew closer and closer until there were only a few centimetres between their heads. She then proceeded to his other eye and observed taht as well. After she was done, she started writing again while she stepped away.
Maid: Pathetic... Now let's see the alteration.
The maid touched Yang's chest with her pen. The core within Yang's chest started glowing so brightly that its shape was visible through Yang's skin. The maid drew her pen back, and the light vanished, and quickly jotted down something, then placed the pen inside the book and closed it.
Maid: This is unusual. No one has ever managed to do that; no one in the uncountable number of alternative lines has ever managed this... not even the original one! Turning a punishment into a plundering?! You are quite a monster... Yang!
???: Monster? Are you sure about that... Perhaps you meant to say that he is greater than me?
The maid quickly turned around to see a man standing not far from the door-sized door she came through. The man had a shiny light blue robe; also, the man was wearing a plain white mask covering his entire face, except his eyes which were dark blue.
Maid: No, sir! I would never! I just meant that...
Man: You meant what? I think I do know MYSELF pretty well without you telling me.
Maid: Yes, I apologise, sir!
Man: ...
Maid: Sir, would you mind telling me why you came here?

Man: Because this one is different, he seems to be missing something taht everyone else has, but has something that the others do not! I just can't figure out what it is... yet.
Maid: Sir, this one managed to gain something during a punishment; I don't think this is normal!
Man: No, this means he is different; he can learn and gain from the most difficult situations as well, even if those situations were not meant to kill him! We should push him further a bit.
Maid: Sir, I don't think taht would be a great idea!
Man: Yes, you are right... let's push him beyond his boundaries! Have him break his limits!
Maid: Sir! I think he will...
Man: 20CO-LE20! You are in no position to talk about what I do... after all, I DO know who I am and WHAT I CAN do! It seems you forgot about that. Don't forget that you are easily replaceable; there are millions of you where you came from!
20CO-LE20: I understand, sir! I am terribly sorry!
Man: Good.
20CO-LE20: But sir, what if he fails?
Man: If he can't beat his most powerful and dangerous enemy, himself, then he was another failure. Now go and do your job!
20CO-LE20: Yes, sir!
The man and the maid walked back to the portal they used, and once they went through it, the gate itself vanished, and time started going again.

This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). 2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."
