《New Empire》Chapter 2: Resurrection

Time slowly passed and the people in the castle grew more and more uneasy.
“Azrael, how much time is left?” Emelia asked as she paced inside of the throne room.
Azrael stood still with a small smile, as if everything was going well. “Another 10 minutes left I’d say. You shouldn’t be worried, His Highness Raulas can do this with no problem, you need to trust him more you know.”
“Humph! How can you say something like that, I’m the most devout follower of his among any of us!” Emelia pouted as she pointed at him.
“If it weren’t for the fact that you could summon Blood Beings, you wouldn’t even be here. Look at these! I am the best subordinate!” Aris taunted as he flexed.
Azrael and Emelia laughed at his poses and Aris could only stop stiffly as he rubbed his thick red hair.
In the middle of their laughter, the door opened and the Elder Lich entered.
“Sir Azrael, Sir Aris, Lady Emelia. It’s about to activate, you must come at once.” He bowed and quickly started walking back.
“I guess it’s time huh? May our lord be successful.” Azrael let out a sigh.
The magic spell that Raulas was casting had an unknown range, because of this fact, everyone of importance had to be by his side when it finally activated.
The trio followed the Elder Lich to the tower, yet, as they were walking, a loud crack, like that of an iceberg cracking, alerted them.
Looking up, there seemed to be a small hole in the dome as a couple of enemy humans floated down from the hole, yet in the instant, it healed itself and decapitated one of them.
The other human was assaulted by all sorts of spells from the tower and the streets until he died too.

Looking at each other, the trio used their full speed to run to the tower, yet just as they were about to reach it. A large white formation appeared above the whole city and began to spin, slowly at first, yet it picked up speed.
Clenching their hands, the trio prayed to Raulas, in fact, if one looked to the streets, they would see the Undead and the other creatures all kneeling towards the tower, praying.
As the glow from the formation grew brighter and brighter, the enemy forces began melting away, and it seemed to hurt anyone not inside the city.
After the army had been completely wiped out of existence, the glow receded, yet, in its place was only air, the city of Kan-Celeste no longer existed within this world.
…
“I finished the chant.. Why did nothing happen.. Did I fail!?” Raulas looked at the formation surrounding him with despair, as he tried to find a flaw.
“Nothing.. There’s nothing wrong.. Was it just my fault?” As he was mumbling, the door to the room burst open as Emelia ran inside.
“You did it My Lord! There’s no more army outside and the stars have changed!” Emelia lept into Raulas’ embrace as she cried.
It worked!? But I didn’t sense anything…
“There there, it’s all ok now right? We’re safe.. Shhh.” Raulas softly coaxed Emelia as he combed her hair with his hand.
“Mhm!” She nodded excitedly.
“Let’s go outside, I want to see this for myself.” He let out a big smile as he quickly made his way outside.
As soon as he opened the door, he was faced with the whole city, the remaining 3 million as expressing gratitude and cheering for him at once.
“Long live Your Majesty!”

“Thank you Your Majesty!”
“Thank you for not leaving us Your Majesty!”
If it were not for the fact that he was in front of all of his people, Raulas would have begun crying, yet he resisted and eventually just bowed towards them. “Thank you all. Truly, we are somewhere else now.. Far from home… We must continue to work hard, no, even harder now! Please grant me your strength everyone!”
The crowds erupted into cheers as a large reddish-purple portal appeared. Undead began walking into the portal until only a few thousand were left patrolling the streets.
Raulas lightly waved his hand as the portals disappeared and he returned to the castle.
“Your Majesty.” A dozen maids respectfully bowed their heads as he entered the castle.
“Get all of the staff and come to the throne room.” Raulas nodded with a slight smile as he continued to the throne room.
As he took his time walking there, by the time he reached it, everyone within the castle had already gathered. Looking around, he nodded to a couple of people as he gracefully sat on the throne.
“Emelia, go scout out our new surroundings, make sure to instantly return if you see any signs of civilization.” Emelia forcefully nodded.
“Aris, bring the Healers with you and go make sure everyone is ok.” Aris replied with a quick “Yes!”
“Azrael, bring some scribes and check the city’s condition, be sure to report anything out of place.” Azrael accepted it with no hesitation.
“I know this will be hard, we are in a new world after all, but we must bare with it. I only hope we can all stay together and help each other, no matter what! Be they Gods or Devils, we will survive as long as we are together!” Raulas released his full holy aura as even a faint halo formed above his head.
“Of course Your Majesty!” The group shouted in unison, as they started leaving one by one to do their tasks.
“Very good haha!” Raulas let out a laugh as he saw the fire in his subordinates eyes, yet in the middle of his joy, a bucket of water was poured over him.
A small girl with cat ears and a tail wearing an officials dress came running into the room.
“Report! Your Majesty, something just hit our City Dome and blew up! It didn’t seem like a weapon, and 2 humanoids flew out and are floating using some blankets!” Exclamations resounded around the crowd that had yet to leave.
“Everyone, continue doing what you were asked. Maids, come with me.” Raulas growled out as he held his glabella.
“Yes!” The maids got up and followed behind him.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
