《Blaze》Chapter 54 - Last Night's Tribulation

Carter walks down the stairs and does a twirl. He gives a courteous bow to the bartender before smoothly sauntering over to where Serah and Nickie were sitting.
Serah puts down her fork to look at the new man before him and lets out a big smile. “Wow, look at you. It seems like you had a pleasant evening.” She says, amused.
Carter also lets out a big smile before sitting down. “What can I say? A gentleman doesn't kiss and tell.” He says before pouring himself a glass of water.
Serah smiles. “A gentleman indeed. Samantha told me he had to speak to you last evening. I imagine things went well?” She asks, probing for more.
Carter takes a big gulp before letting out a breath. “Oh, much more than well. Samantha, she’s like the moon in the sky, her curves like the waves of the ocean. I’m enamored with her beauty. Now, I must receive my father’s approval. After that, we can spend the rest of our lives with each other!” He says enthusiastically.
Nickie gags. “I’m going to puke.” She says, feeling that the matter was rather unappealing.
Serah continues to smile. “Well, I hope things go well. I’ll have to speak to Samantha later. I’m very curious about the juicy details.” She says, somewhat impatient for the story.
Carter is unfazed. “Please speak a few words on my behalf.” He requests before standing up. “Now, if you’ll excuse me. I have the urge to pick up a few gifts. Maybe a few aromatic flowers.” He says before sauntering away.
Serah, amused, looks over to Nickie. “What do you think? Will they last?” She asks, curious about Nickie’s opinion.
Nickie frowns. “It’s too soon to tell. If I know anything about men, it’s that they’re bound to fuck up. Whether it happens sooner, before the knot is tied, or after, when it will probably be too late to do anything, who can say? I’m more curious about whether he was able to fulfill a man’s duty.” She says before cutting into her sausages once more.

Serah lets out a big laugh. “We’ll have to wait for Samantha.” She says, when, speak of the devil, Serah spots Samantha walking down the stairs.
Samantha sees Serah and Nickie waiting on her and a blush escapes her face. She lets out a sigh and walks over before sitting down, preparing herself to interact with the audience watching her show.
“Well?” Serah says with a grin. “Spill the tea, girl. We need the details.” She says, folding her arms to wait patiently.
Samantha grabs a sausage from Serah’s dish before taking a few bites. “What’s to say? We spent the evening together. There’s really not much to tell.” She says, hoping to keep mum.
Serah and Nickie look to each other and smile.
“Nothing much to tell, or not much to tell.” Nickie says, her tone a clear indication of which one of those situations was better and which one was disappointing in comparison.
Samantha’s cheeks continue to blush and she grabs another sausage to bite into. “What? Can we not talk about the details?” She says before pouring herself a glass of water.
Serah lets out a sigh. “Fine. But you have to tell us whether you’re going to continue. I’m just curious whether he was able to pass last night’s tribulation.” She says, hoping for at least a little more.
Samantha takes a sip of water before letting out a breath. “To be honest. I’ll have to get to know him more. I’d rather dig out all the hiding demons before I make my decision. As for the tribulation, he has room to grow, but that would have to be weighed against his worth as a person. For the moment, his future noble title is pretty alluring, but I will not settle for waste. I refuse!” She says, with determination.

Nickie shakes her head. “I sort of pity the boy now. One thing’s for sure, if you two end up together, his household will very much be under control.” She says before letting out a chuckle.
Serah lets out a laugh.
Samantha continues to drink her water before moving on. “Can we get back on topic? We still have a job to do.” She says, hoping to redirect the conversation.
“Oh yeah. Forgot about that. We’ll wait for Carter to get back, then we’ll get back to business.” Serah says. She almost thought that she was on vacation.
“Thank you.” Samantha says before standing up. “I’m going to need a little more food, I think.” She says before walking away to put in an order.
