《MMORPG: Dual Cultivation Online》3. Ghost!

Ben lamented his shit luck for a few minutes and then started wandering around the newbie town helplessly.
Because he was already late to join the game, a lot of the more useful NPCs like the smithing master, beast master, and array master had already accepted apprentices which was just another word for servants.
So they did not even let Ben through the gate.
"I guess a lot of people started with trash constitution?" He comforted himself and kept trying, but in reality that was not the case.
The more Ben looked around, the more he became depressed. Apparently, the earth-tier physique was the most common one, not his trash-tier.
It looked like among thousands and thousands of players, only a handful of people were cursed enough to have this truly shitty start.
However, that was that. There was nothing he could do to change it. So Ben kept roaming around the beginner town, trying to see if there was any NPC he could sweet talk to.
After a while, he came to know that only the Alchemy Master did not have any apprentices yet.
Apparently, the master had a bad temper so no player was able to stick around for longer than a day.
"Damn. Finally, some good news! Alchemy masters will also have some good stuff like pills and concoctions. That should be the best chance for me to improve my body."
Ben hurriedly ran over to the Alchemy Master's building. It was a wide pagoda-shaped building with a few people walking around in robes.
Ben approached one of them and quickly asked. "Sir, I want to join as an apprentice here."
"Hmmm? You want to join as Master's apprentice?" The person himself seemed to be confused by his question.
"Yes. Yes." Ben nodded.
"Alright. Go inside. The Master's room should be on the right, but don't knock on the door. If Master decides to meet you, then the door will open on its own."

"Oh, magic doors!" Ben nodded and then walked inside to wait in front of the room, just like the person mentioned.
He sat down there on a wooden stool, calmly looking around and observing all the things around him. This entire game world was completely different from the modern world.
It was amazing to immerse oneself in this fantasy. Casually admiring everything, unknowingly, he ended up falling asleep.
Time passed by and just like that he somehow ended up sleeping for a couple of hours, when suddenly a loud bang resounded from the room, the door shattering open.
"Huh? Huh?" Ben lazily woke up and rubbed the drool leaking out of his face. "Wait, this is what he meant when he said that the doors would open?"
He casually peeked to take a look but the next second, he loudly screamed!
"GHOST! GHOST! GHOST!"
There was a pitch-black figure sitting inside, eyes blood red and locked onto Ben. This made him take a step back and he started shouting even louder.
"GHOST! GHOST! GHOST! Ah! I don't even have a starter weapon! Fuck why are there ghosts in the newbie village!"
Because of all the commotion he created, everyone in the pagoda came rushing towards him, all of them seeing the pitch-black figure.
They as well looked equally shocked and dumbfounded but what Ben didn't know was that they were shocked for an entirely different reason than he was!
Not daring to continue standing there any longer, everyone who had rushed over there, instantly fled the spot with the same speed.
This confused Ben a lot. "Aren't you guys going to do anything about this ghost?" He scratched his head and looked around, wondering why everyone was scattering like marbles.
"Maybe the ghost left?"
He again peeked inside only to see the pitch-black figure, now standing up, breathing hoarsely, and slowly walking over to him.

"Oh no! Am I going to die?" Ben took another step back.
"Well, I don't have any spirity qi or cultivation so even if I die I won't lose much. But I read that it hurts to die here? Ummm. I should also run away?"
The black ghost was quickly approaching him and he did not have much time to think.
So Ben reacted instinctively and started to run when a hand casually plucked him and tossed him back into the room.
"Hey. Let me go, you stupid ghost." He tried to grab something nearby and throw it at the ghost but there was nothing around him.
The room was very austere, except for the blackened explosion at the center.
He also did not have anything in the inventory space except for a few copper coins. So Ben could only gulp and wait for the ghost to take action.
"Please. Just kill me. What are you going to do?"
As the ghost walked towards him in slow motion, he couldn't help but notice that the black ghost in front of him was a female ghost.
And somehow that made it even more terrifying. "HELP! HELP! SHE IS COMING FOR MY FAMILY JEWELS! NOT MY JEWELS!"
He again shouted and surprisingly, this seemed to have an effect on the ghost. She finally stopped, but…
Why did her red eyes look even angrier?
Ben gulped and backed up against the wall. He was ready to fight against a thousand beasts but ghosts… that was his weak point…
He opened his mouth to shout again when the so-called ghost could not stand it any longer and spoke up. "IDIOT! STOP SCREAMING! From which angle do I look like a ghost?"
"Ah…" Ben gaped, opening his mouth wide when the black figure in front of him instantly disappeared, replaced with a goddess-like figure.
The woman in front of him was like freshly fallen snow, her lips cherry red and her clear black eyes staring angrily at him.
But even though she was angry, he didn't mind it one bit because that only made her look that much more enticing.
Ben gulped again and he was suddenly very aware of the situation he was in. 'Damn it. I made such a fool of myself in front of an NPC like this. Why is my luck so shitty!'
"Ahem. Ahem. Sorry for the misunderstanding, my lady. Please allow me to apologize." Ben cleared his throat and got up, shameless acting as if the past few seconds did not just happen.
For someone who had to put up with his father's incessant berating every single day, this much was nothing new.
However, the beauty still continued looking passionately at him, well passionately angry. So Ben quickly tried changing the topic.
"Do you perhaps know where I can find the alchemy master? I am here to join as an apprentice."
Unfortunately… this made the beauty even angrier. "You! Are you blind? I am standing right in front of you! I am the alchemy master! But you can see yourself out."
"There is no apprenticeship here for idiots like you! Get lost!"
Ben's face changed and he started panicking. He didn't want to lose this good opportunity. "Wait, don't be so hasty in judging me." He then quickly added. "Umm. Master"
"Please give me at least one chance before kicking me out."
"Fine. You want a chance? I will give you one." The beauty coldly sneered and then pointed at the broken cauldron in the center of the room.
"Tell me what went wrong with this concoction?"

Wander West, in Shadow
BOOK 1 COMPLETED A young wizard journeys west, through dark forests and dangerous lands, searching for something. Accompanied by a wild witch who has secrets of her own, they come across terrible creatures, hauntings, cursed villages, and memories from their past. Who else will they meet along their journey, and to find what he is looking for, how far will the wizard have to wander west? NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.
