《Muddy Dreams》11. My new pets seem scary.

The path ahead suddenly felt bright, I could suddenly feel the right direction towards my soul.
I didn't have to struggle any longer to find my inner world. I slowly found myself moving through that simple path. I felt at peace for the first time in what felt like forever.
The path to my soul. Was strange. Different to how I first awakened, that had been immediate. One instant I had been in the destruction of my former home. The next I was in the perfection of my Inner world.
This was far less jarring, as I came slowly, but very surely in myself to a very watered down version of the Inner world I experienced in my initial awakening.
There was no depth to this field I was in. The vast expanse that had been my world before I got in naturally was nowhere to be seen.
That vast world of possibilities was now a dismal area with little to nothing around me other than darkness. The change was stark. The end to my initial abilities.
Not even a single skill had formed yet.
That realization forced me back into the dreary little room I had always been in. Still the success drove me on. I had succeeded once, I can do it again.
Re-centering myself. I brought peace to my mind once again, as I went down the now wide open path towards my inner soul.
That route seemed to bring a marginal amount of extra strength to the path. The path was so weak however that even a little improvement was very noticeable. As the path slowly widened on my way back through. I could feel my mind slowly expand. A extra level of understanding seemed to spread out before me. The pain and loss threatened to overwhelm that process for the moment before. I managed to get it under control.

The path then opened up before me. As if welcoming me as I continued to evolve on the micro scale.
Arriving in the meadow. I was brought to the notice of a stark difference.
Now there were quite a few small creatures, running around on all 4s, a length of spikes running along its back. It only reached up to my shin, but the razor sharp teeth along its mouth, told me all I needed to know about how vicious these little beasts would be.
As I came into being, they slowly started circling around me. I didn't feel panicked as these little monsters circled around me. Instead I feel great safety, and servitude. Something deep inside me, told me that these were my creatures. Not a threat to anyone other than your enemies.
It took me a second to take my attention off the little pets, to a little more intimidating new feature of the landscape that was slowly loping its way towards me. A creature that stood as tall as me, but who was three times as wide. Its giant arms reaching all the way to the ground as they helped the giants frame move slowly towards me.
The giant creature covered in red fur, took its place bowing in front of me for a second before it began to move back to the cave that housed it originally. Obviously it felt no need to overly fawn over me.
Returning to my physical body, I now felt the skills take place inside of me. Two minor summoning abilities. One a group summoning of the little creatures who had been circling my astral form. The other summoning the behemoth who lived in the cave. I was very happy with what I got for my first abilities.
Trying to form them in my mind. I felt some force in the room stop me from performing any spells. Another restriction, tempering my elation of my first new powers.

Thus began the cycle for the next few days. I would circulate my aura in the morning. I broke into first tier proper after another ten or so days passing. Doing so immediately solidified me into the world like I had never felt before.
The skills opened up to me, I suddenly felt a far greater strength well up in each of the skills. I would have to visit my inner world to solidify them, but the pure power that was charging through my system after solidifying my pillars, allowing the first breakthrough of my aura. It was a intoxicating feeling.
I immediately set down to further solidify my base. The path had long since become routine to me. However I felt a far greater amount of resistance to break through to my inner world. The discordance between the growth of my body and my soul being the chief reason I would imagine.
Eventually forcing myself into the world once again.
Now this was far more akin to the world I had bare witness to in my initial awakening. Looking around, there was now a far greater menagerie. Including a small town that had popped up nearby. I still didn't have the power to move my astral body, but I heard a bell ringing from the town. A swarm of little blue goblinoid creatures seemed to swarm out of the town. The first one to reach me, seemed to just pop out into existence from one second to the next.
"Greetings Master, we are your grove-tenders, while you can not summon us, we will work nonstop within your inner world, cultivating new summons and growing your power-set in any way we can help."
I was filled with questions, but as if reading my mind he waved off any questions. Literally. A wave of magic flew out of his hand into my head. I was suddenly filled with their knowledge they wanted to give me. They would tend to my inner world. Growing it every second. A great innate talent. I would never have to worry about growing my inner soul. As long as my aura became more powerful, these little masters of the soul would be able to grow my skills and summons for me. Granting me far more power than would ever normally be possible with my own talent for managing my soul.
A great legacy had been left for me by my parents. That was sure. The name of a high house of the Empire wasn't for nothing.
I was now ready to face this Horde and all the warlords within.

Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
