Kits always got to do the cool stuff, but Kaia had her own set of skills besides shapeshifting. Being Kits’ other half meant she was immune to temperature too, though she couldn’t directly manipulate it. When Kaia wound up on a world that was convinced she was a witch, this became hilarious.

The paranoid denizens of that world made this big raging bonfire and strapped Kaia to a wooden post in the center of the kindling. They chanted at her while they stoked the flames higher, hotter.

“Here’s an arcane magical secret for you. My kind of witch doesn’t burn.”
