《Ascension Game》12th Entry - Break
Advertisement
After an hour of walking and keeping a low profile, we arrive at another clearing. At its center is a log cabin; we approach and open its door. Inside is a wood stove kitchen, a table, and a bed. We are both exhausted, but a frightening thought enters my mind; what if this was the black night’s home. At that moment, we both receive a notification on our wrists: “you have entered a sanctuary; mobs won’t be able to enter this area.” Ashley locks the door, and I slump myself on the bed. Ashley comes in as well. She’s trembling, so I sit and take her in my arms. I can feel her heart beating hard. We stay like this for a few minutes; who knew that situation would ever happen. I fall asleep in that position. Ashley wakes me up moments later by moving. It’s almost dark, and it’s getting cold; I light a few candles, close the curtains and start a fire; the fight's tension has eased.
Ashley: “Are we really safe?”
Me: “I think so.”
Fortunately, we didn’t lose our backpacks, so we proceed to cook our dinner.
We eat silently. Ashley looks away. After finishing, we agree to share the bed for the night. We undress, and I blow out the candles. We install ourselves under the blanket and face each other. After a brief moment, Ashley moves closer to me; she smells good, and our legs are touching. My guts move my body for me; I place my hand up her hips and slightly lean my face forward. We start kissing.
Slowly at first, then more intensively. I move on top of her and start touching and kissing her in multiple places. She caresses my shaft. After a bit of foreplay, I introduce myself. We begin making love. I thrust inside of her, slowly at first but then faster and faster. She starts moaning. I do not stop my effort, and I get my culminating point. She grabs my hair and has a few spasms. After a good pause, I retreat. I lie on her side and fall asleep.

When I wake up, Ashley is huddled against me. I enjoy the moment for a few minutes as if I would never have this chance again. I do not want to get up and go back to sleep. I wake up again later; Ashley is sitting on the bed. I remain silent.
“How are we going to go home?” she asks. I say to her, “You mean the station or our real home?” She replies, “both.” I explain that she could lower her pain limiter and cut herself like that girl accidentally did. She does not get hyped by the three days in isolation part.
Ashley and I talk a little before eating our breakfast. While we eat, I tell her that I will look for the hill Jack saw yesterday and that she can stay here if she wants. She insists on coming, so we pack our things. Before leaving, I inspect the house exterior. Luckily I find another wood-cutting ax to replace the one I lost. This one is heavier, but I can still handle it. We enter the forest. Fortunately, I have a good sense of direction and remember the path we took to come here; we head to where the hill should be. We walk carefully for roughly an hour. I climb up a three as Jack did, I am not as good as him, but I manage to get high enough. I see the hill he was talking about, slightly on our right. It looks more like a massive rock to me; its top is a strange structure looking like a birdcage. I climb down, and we resume our hike. After another hour, we finally arrive at the peculiar form. It has a ramp carved on its side, circling all around.

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

Is this all the result of one conspiracy? Or, has this gauntlet been wrought by a collective, unconcious desire for danger, a feral and instinctual life in the food chain? What is happening? What, if anything should we do to stop it? Who will rise in these times, who will crumble, and who will even notice a difference? This is but one of my Serial Experiments in fiction writing.
