《Unfortunately This Happened.》Chapter 5: Skill Lottery

At a Barn in a town called Hubble, an infested rat nest, knocked out by a lucky skill, then all the rats from the nest is stabbed to death. One casualty amongst the group of 7 taking part of the Rookie Program. That one casualty, a dagger weilder.
The six of us left is Sir Guard Alex, and Alexa the daughter of the owner of the Laughing Raven tavern. The spear guy, and the water magic user. The sword guy and me the last dagger guy standing, well limping. One of the rats bit my ankle pretty badly, then I dashed around on the injured foot not knowing how long my unconsciousness buff to my weapon would last.
Sir Guard Alex was knocked out during the skirmish with the rats. Now he's finally waking up after we finished annihilating the nest of rats.
"Hey, what the hell happened here?", said Sir Guard Alex.
"What does it look like? We killed the whole damn nest while protecting your unconscious body. Not an easy task, check your arms and cheeks, they got you bad in a few spots."
Yeah, I couldn't protect him perfectly against a swarm.
"Ouch, no kidding eh? Thanks for keeping me safe. I guess that means you all pass, except for that guy." Sir Guard Alex points down at dead dagger guy.
"Since you guys saved my life, you all get a bonus of a celebratory meal, on me."
My stomach growls loudly at that. That's music to my ears, food!
I don't mean to bother you thinking about food but, you levelled up like crazy, you'll need to activate "Skill Lottery" when you get the chance as well.
Oh, seriously, why didn't you mention that earlier?
You were busy, you know killing rats, then talking, still talking to Sir Guard Alex.

"We're heading back dagger guy! You coming with us?"
"My name is Ren, I learned your name, please learn mine as well. Sorry, the pain in my foot is making snap in anger."
Alexa comes up beside me, "Here, let me help you walk, lean onto me.", I take Alexa's arm.
"Thanks, that helps a lot. You're not too bad, aren't ya?"
"Is that suppose to be a compliment? Anyway, how did you knock out those rats?"
"I got Lady Luck on my side, that's how. She grants me a strange power, I am still unsure how to use properly."
"Oh, which Lady Luck is helping you?"
"There's more then one?"
"Yeah, there's Trinity, Izzy, Maple, and Lou. Four of them, and they work in different areas of Luck. The other statuses has their own Guardians as well."
Well that's interesting, which area does Izzy work with, and which areas are there? Anyway, bigger priority is.
The skill "Skill Lottery" has been activated! For effect draw a card from this deck of cards!
Frozen time, as I feel my spirit bend out of my body to touch the cards, I feel a strong vibration humming as the cards automatically shuffles itself in mid air. I close my eyes and reach out in the swirling cards in front of me, and pull one out.
Congrats! You received the skill "Iron Fist"
Iron Fist lvl.1
Makes fist strong enough to repel blades and spikes. If impact is way too strong, it will puncture through. This skill is meant to parry weapons when unarmed. Does not make strikes stronger then what you can strike with. Mp:1/sec active
"Not bad, still wish for magic though. Oh yeah, I am Izzy's Soldier of Fortune."

"You got Izzy? She's that bunny one, she takes care of bets with risky chances."
"What about the other three?"
"They are kinda weird being animalistic, but there's the fox Lou, she takes care punishments with debtors. There's the dog Maple, she takes care of rewards for the high rollers. Finally, there's the cat Trinity, she takes care of cheaters, and likes to cheat herself."
"Good to know, thanks for telling me. Oh we're here, I'm starving since that fight!"
"Let's eat to our hearts content!", Alexa says smugly with a gleam in here eye. She eats free here, since she's the owners daughter. Her phrase is a trap, since we still gotta pay. Well, Sir Guard Alex, since he offered. Not a trap then?
The other rookies were already inside the Laughing Raven eating and drinking. Sir Guard Alex, sighs as he waves us over. He knows he's losing out on a large portion of money, but he's still alive.
Alexa's dad comes out to greet us and asks if she's hurt anywhere. She is, but she tells him no. Her legs and shoulders are gashed up under her cloak.
Then Clyde, my orphan buddy who got adopted with me says I gotta head back to the tailorshop to close things up and to get some sleep.
My food! I didn't even eat yet! I argue, but he tells me I'm going to get thrown out if I don't listen, and to give him back his dagger I borrowed off of him. Some things just isn't fair!
I lean onto Clyde and head back home to the tailorshop. Alexa's sister tells me goodbye, while Alexa already disappeared, probably to treat her wounds. I need to learn Alexa's sisters name when I get the chance.
I think I'll go see priestess Mia tomorrow, and get my foot healed at the church.
*****
The old couple, Abe and Edna Prickly, my new parents of the tailorshop, started making a ruckus in the early morning. Waking up Clyde and I, to take the finished repaired clothing they worked on the other day to the original owners.
I complain about my injured foot, they tell me they'll throw me out if I don't help Clyde deliver. I whisper to Clyde to let me sneak over to church. I make sure to remind him he owes me since he screwed me out of my celebratory meal last night. He tells me I can go back to the Orphanage. What do I do?

The Heart Grows
Dungeon games? Yeah, they're a good way to waste a few hours. The trick is to know the map and plan appropriately. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get beaten. You revise your plan for that map and do a bit better next time. Man, it'd really suck to wake up as a dungeon heart in a fantasy world you know nothing about, barely able to even work out how to control your dungeon. Lucky that wouldn't happen to anybody, huh? What with only having one chance at getting things right, you'd have to plan extra-defensive. This story should be getting chapters published weekly. I have a comfortable buffer set up and on top of the weekly writing I am committing, a commissioner has donated two monthly writing slots to ensure this remains on a weekly schedule. There will be a stat block at the beginning of every chapter bar the first, and a handy map at the end. All my works come with a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means you are free to download, publish, and even make derivative works of my writing so long as you include this license, attribution, and don't sell the works. Keep it free!

Requiem of the Sea
Maya is going to kill gods and rule the seas with an iron fist. She doesn't know that yet. Outcasted her entire life, she has had to fight for every scrap of food she's eaten. Her only escape is to get enough Essence, a powerful resource that awakens the innate magic within humans, to make something of herself. And just when she managed to defeat an entire dungeon on her own, her tormenters arrive to steal it from her. Cast into an abyss, Maya meets a man who the world has long thought to be dead. He's willing to train her, and Maya has grand plans of becoming a pirate captain. Maya is going to gather a crew, grow in strength, and carve her legacy into the world with blood. Requiem of the Sea is a vast seafaring story. The world is very large, and I enjoy trickling information in about it slowly as opposed to dumping it all at once. The story is updated once every two days. Thanks for reading!
