《Harmony: An Assassins Tale》Chapter 2: The Truth That became Known (Re-Edit)

Today was the second day of school, and also the day I have my rematch. When I came back to school the morning, Jennifer seemed a bit surprised that I was still alive, but still, she didn't react alot. According to what I have understood by the books, and Hartsen~Sensei, only a few people managed to be able to use there Soul Emifer to there full potential, and that it isn't something you chose, it has been already chosen before your soul was embedded into the body, consider it as an identity, in a sense.
The day was the same as usual, repeating things I had already known, so I didn't pay attention to what the teacher’s where explaining to us. Most of them walked up to me, shook me from my slumber, and then said, "Johnny! What was I just talking about?" and I would, in a sleepy way just tell them what they were talking about. Such happened in the 3rd lesson, Physics. We were studying about transfer of heat, which I learned many years ago, with Hartsen~Sensei, the man in charge of the 2 burly men who took me to the government in the first place. "Hey! Johnny! Wake up would you!" he said, shouting. I could hear snickers in the background. "Ehh, um... yes?" I said, in a sleepy motion, which made them crack up some more, but Jennifer was quiet, probably wondering why I did this.
"Okay. Tell me everything I had explained in the past 10 minutes, please." and I sighed. "Okay, teacher, you so far had told us the basics, which was about conduction, convection, and radiation. You said that conduction occurs when heat travels through an object , ie a medium, but without the particles itself moving, and then you said convection occurs when heat travels through a medium, and the particles moving. You then started talking about the applications of these two things, when you noticed me 'sleeping' . You then whispered to yourself what you were going to do with me, whether to make it seem big, or small, but then you thought ab-" and he shushed me. He then blushed, a little embarrassed, and said, "Okay, okay, no need to go into such details." and he didn't mind me for the rest of the period.
Fourth period hit, the accursed period, I told myself, as it was my time to test out my skills with Yagrik. This time, I was the one who took the intiative. "Hey, Jennifer, can you meet me at the garden?" and she didn't say anything. After about two minutes of us leaning against the wall, I heard a very mute beep. "Sorry, I have to go," Jennifer said, and she ran into the basement, which I noticed before, but didn't know what it was for. I decided to go and follow her, and when she left to go down, I held the door, so that it wouldn't make a sound of closing and re-opening. I entered the room, quietly, using Yagrik to mute any sounds I made by filling in gaps of the squeaking wooden stairs, well, planks. The floor was nothing more than concrete, with gray walls, and almost no furnishing, with an empty bookcase on the side.

Jennifer was there, talking to someone, who was most likely her superior. This person had a mask on his face, and most likely a voice changing machine, because he sounded robotic. When I came to lean in a bit closer, I could tell he adjusted himself towards me. "Jenny, my dear, there is a... rat, here, may you please take care of it?" and he looked towards me, and Jennifer adjusted herself towards me too. "Oh, I thought you would've followed me, but I didn't notice you, I give you props for that, but no matter, this time, I'll make sure you die." and she charged at me, with Yartsdra already equipped. "My, my, you still don't think, do you, Jenny? Hey, can I call you Jenny? Ha ha ha! Come at me!"
She charged at me, and I already knew what was going to happen, I already knew what was going to happen 2 minutes in advance. I dodged her attack, and then jumped up, just as I thought. "Jenny, we do not have time, let me take care of him, you just watch," the man had said. Jennifer seemed a bit angry, but she listened, and so, she sat on the bookshelf. "Okay, boy, let us now have a bit of fun, shall we? Well, atleast let me introduce myself. I am Ujuk, the current leader of the SPIRITS." and with that, he had summoned his Soul Emifer, Unbu, which was a shotgun. "Ahh, a good choice, well, let me take out mine!" and I too, summoned Yagrik, with my willpower and determination.
"Oh? So this is the fabled Yagrik I've heard so much about, now, let us test this... 'rock' , shall we?" and he didn't have an egotistic personality like Jennifer, nor did he undermine me. I decided to have some fun, so I too, choose a shotgun. "Yes, let me test Unbu. My Yagrik, versus your Unbu." and he laughed. "In a duel of shotguns, no one is better than me" and his claim was true, I couldn't manage a shot, yet he managed to get a few bullets to pierce my good arm, the left. "Damn, I haven't felt this much pain, ever since I left the government, well, no matter, I have my own methods." and this time, rather than having a single shotgun, I summoned 6 flintlocks, which took all of Yagrik's current strength. I thought it through, but I forgot to carry the 3, so I had to change a flintlock into bullets . While I did this, I dodged his bullets.

"Well, well! Seems like you've sharpened yourself. Now, let me test out this new trick of yours!" and that was the moment I needed, when his ego hit him. I then surrounded with the 5 flintlocks, which seemed to catch him off guard. With a movement of my index finger, each flintlock was filled with bullets. He couldn't react quick enough, and that was the deciding point. I then shot each gun, all of there bullets pointing directly at me. I didn't notice it , but I knew it was going to happen, and it did.
Jennifer then jumped and tanked the bullets, with Yartsdra, which managed to protect her from 4 of the bullets, but one of them took her arm, making it impossible for her to use Yartsdra, because it was a two-handed spear, which was its biggest weakness. She was now immobilized, unable to use her weapon, and Ujuk couldn't do anything by the shock. "I guess I was correct, Jennifer is your daughter, isn't she?" and he looked down, but nodded. "Please, do anything to me, just don't hurt my little angel." and I thought about it for a while, and went for the pacifist route, rather than sadistic.
"Okay, but do this for me , Ujuk. You will leave us alone, for the next 5 years, and resign from your duty as the leader of the SPIRITS, and with that, I assure Jennifer's safety, for those 5 years." and he couldn't deny this, because I was in the positon to be able to kill the both of them. I heard the bell ring. "It's almost time, choose quickly." and he had a calm exterior, but was rushed inside, not knowing what to do, the pressure killed him. "Fine, I will leave you alone for the next 5 years, but I won't be doing nothing. After those 5 years, I'm coming for your life, no matter what it must take." He then dissappeared, into the background, he was gone, I even heard the door creak. "Come on Jennifer, the guards will start to worry about what happened, here, let me patch up your arm, I must keep you safe now." and when I tried to wrap the bandage around her, she pushed my hand aside.
"I do not need your help, so, just leave the cloth here, and go." and I chuckled. "I'm almost pierced, I can't put it on for myself, so can you do it for me?" and after putting on her bandage, she rolled her eyes. "Fine, but I'm not doing this for you." and I saw a hint of red on her cheeks. She fastened it on my arm a bit to tight. "Ow! Be a bit more gentle will you?" and she smiled, I couldn't help myself but chuckle. The door opened, and Tou went bursting in.
She tripped her foot on the plank, and fell directly on me, and I was pushed onto Jennifer. "Oh, sorry Johnny, wait... WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, ALONE? Especially with a woman? Don't tell me..." and she clasped her hands on her mouth. "No, of course not!" Jennifer blurted out, embarrased. She then pushed me aside, and said, "Come on Johnny, Jennifer, your class is waiting for you." and we both stood up, and went back to class. It was already 6th period, and when we went in, no one really payed any attention, except Kuiy, he just stared at us, which creeped me out, but I had a suspicion he knew about what was going on between us, but I couldn't be so sure, I sat on my seat, and the bell rang. "Okay , thank you for attending my class, see you tomorrow." and he left.
The moment he left, everyone looked at me and Jennifer, and had the same thoughts Tou had. "NO! We didn't do that!" I said, before they said a word, but a few of them had a weird smile on their face, and Jennifer blushed once again. The day was over, and exams were going to start in a week. I had to prepare, even though everything was simple, just to be sure. I then left the class, and went home, when I noticed a familiar face at my doorway. "Yoshi!"

But as these once ordinary individuals are freed from fate, the greater world is shaken as fate fails to control the order of things. While mortals squabble on the ground, will anyone look to the sky and see that it is falling?

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.

A Study in Rain
A Study in Rain deals with the realistic aspects of a post-apocalyptic world, and shows the life of one of the last remaning humans. The story focuses on worldbuilding and exploration of the world by the protagnist. Common themes throughout the story are lonliness, seclusion and survival. If you have ever wondered how it would be like to live as the last human in the world, then this is the story for you. This story, like my others, occurs in a shared universe. you can check out the short story series I'm writing here: Dark Fantasy Short Stories. I aim to intially release one chapter a week as I build my confidence and the story. When I get to a point where I am able to churn out a chapter regularly on the same day and time per week, then I will aim to eventually get to 2 chapters a week and then to 1 every other day.
