The harmonious coherence of their movements was beyond amazing. People were often surprised at the ability of twins to feel each other, but for the mages it was an entirely new level of synchronized existence. These two seemed to be one organism. Incredible teamwork, supernatural coordination and the unique ability inherited from their amplifiers—to create countless doppelgangers for a short time—made Elio and Elia feared and respected in the whole magical community.
Mesmerized, Shiningreel was secretly observing their workout through armored glass. They were fighting with a hologram, realistic enough to emulate the atmosphere of a real brawl. But Shiny saw only a snow-white room, filled with various kinds of obstacles and even real turrets, so for her as a spectator the battle seemed like an exotic dance with throwing knives.
Elia got injured during the training, so at the end of the session she went to the medical ward for a healing potion. Her brother came out of the room later, and Shiningreel, whose excitement had no limits, rushed to greet him.
“That was so cool! I’ve never seen such perfect teamwork! What’s your secret?”
“It won’t be a secret if I tell you,” Elio winked at her.
“Myyyy, I’d like to know more about people I’m working with… I’ve already passed my probation test, you know.”
“Just joking. How should I explain it… Elia and me are not just look-alikes… we sense each other… like, on a cellular level. Many twins would tell you about a special bond between them, but magic adds up a huge deal to it. Each of us hears the same things as the other... sees, feels the same. Her thoughts are the thoughts in my own head, and my reflexes act in her body as well.”
“Whoa. Aren’t you confused who’s who then… ‘cause it sounds too crazy.”

“Hmmm… have you ever played a musical instrument?”
“Oh, I used to play the piano. I wasn’t good enough though.”
“Then you should probably know how one can operate both hands to perform, simultaneously and autonomously at the same time. Let me show you!”
With quite a presumptuous but elegant move, Elio grasped Shiny’s hands and turned them palms up. His skin was cold and surprisingly soft, having no trace of his harsh physical training whatsoever. It seemed to the Crimson that she was looking at some divinely handsome creature from the other world, and this thought made her blush.
“Each hand plays its own part,” he said as he moved their hands in the air without any particular pattern. “At the same time, both are able to perform one common melody.”
Elio spread Shiny’s arms out with a smooth gesture, and then folded them together, covering them with his own. The mage girl forgot what he’d been explaining from the start.
“It is the fusion of the left and the right halves that makes the music especially powerful and beautiful, as solo parts sound less impressive. And no one calls pianists crazy, right?”
“Anyway, it’s hard for me to realize how you can achieve complete synchronization with each other,” she said as she carefully pulled her hands out of his arm lock. “After all, music is generated by a person. One person. One brain. And you are different people; each with your own body.”
“Okay, you can think that I share my brain with Elia! But you know what they say… true lovers can experience complete synchronization of minds as well.”
The Amber giggled, and Shiny couldn’t help but think he was incredibly cute.
“Gotta go.” Elio moved towards the exit. “I don’t want to keep my sister waiting.”

Malt the Manslayer
This story does not follow a hero. Malt doesn’t slay dragons with a holy sword nor is he granted immense magical power when he transfers. Unlike his three classmates, he was brought into the new world not as a mythical hero, but with stats comparable if not worse than the average townsfolk. Assaulted by feelings of inadequacy and weakness, he leaves the comfortable castle life that the royalty offered him and decides to help his new country in the only way he thinks he can. By joining the war on the southern border. Not a war against mythical beasts or powerful demons, but against other humans. He thought that he’d finish a single deployment then come back to the castle, proud enough to stand beside his friends again. Little did he know that he’d become one of the most feared fighters on the battlefield, killing so many that he’d earn the moniker, “Malt the Manslayer.”
