《Severing The Heavens》Chapter 3: Reformed

“The Art of Severing the Heavens”
Lin Xiang continuously repeated the words written on the cover of the floating book.
With each repetition, Lin Xian couldn’t help but feel a certain nostalgia crawling upon his skin. Somehow, a vague feeling of familiarity presided in his mind while reading these words.
Lin Xian racked up his mind. Where had he heard or read these words? Why were these words so familiar?
Thinking again and again, Lin Xian just couldn’t find any memory that he could connect with these words.
No matter how familiar it seemed to be, Lin Xian just couldn’t find anything he could associate with these words.
After a while of restless thinking, Lin Xian decided to leave everything aside and just directly check the floating book.
Perhaps some of the answers to his questions could be found inside the floating book.
Looking below him, Lin Xian carefully stood up. Even if everything in the place where he was seemed to be that of a boundless space, he still felt that there was some sort of solid ground where he could walk or run if he ever wanted to.
Treading towards the floating book, Lin Xian decided to observe it more carefully.
As he got nearer, the prominent features of the floating book became even more and more visible.
The floating book’s cover could be discerned as a thin brownish layer of leather. Aside from that, gold and silver intertwining lines could be found on the edges of the cover, making the book seem brilliant and appalling at the same time.
Once Lin Xian was directly in front of the book, the feeling of nostalgia became even stronger. It was as if… he had held this book in his arms, as though it was the most treasured possession he had in his life.

When the book first appeared, Lin Xian certainly felt that he was familiar with it. But now that he was directly in front of it, Lin Xian understood that it wasn’t as simple as that. Right now, Lin Xian strongly felt that this floating book seemed to be calling for him.
As the urge to take it into hands became stronger, Lin Xian slowly reached for it.
As soon as he touched it…
- Zong! -
The sound of something like a gong echoed out, and in the next moment, waves of golden light shot out from the book towards Lin Xian’s forehead.
As the waves of golden light entered his forehead, Lin Xian could feel a small warmth enveloping his body. It was both soothing and relaxing.
Seconds after seconds, minutes after minutes... the more waves of golden light entered his forehead, the more Lin Xian felt comfortable.
After a few minutes or so of heavenly warmth, the waves of golden light stopped pouring from the floating book and lifelessly fell on his hands.
At that moment, Lin Xian finally woke up from his daze, feeling refreshed and anew. It was a fascinating feeling; he felt that he was floating in the sky, not caring about anything else in the world at all.
He stood in a daze, basking in that transcendent feeling. Only after a few minutes did he compose himself and open book.
As he flipped the cover of the book, an ancient and overbearing voice echoed in his mind…
“Death is to revere; Live is to severe! Yield and meet demise; Oppose and perpetually exist! Resist the empyrean skies and gain eternal life! The Art of Severing the Heavens!”
After these words echoed in his mind, cracks appeared all over Lin Xian’s body, and before he could react…

- Boom! -
An explosion resounded as Lin Xian’s body burst to oblivion.
The waves of golden light which entered his forehead burst out from his body, and just like a brittle glass falling on the ground, his body shattered into thousands of pieces.
At that moment, Lin Xian’s mortal soul ceased to exist. He was completely unable to do anything and unable to say anything. In fact, it was easier to describe it as a sudden death.
- Ting! -
Suddenly, within the space where Lin Xian’s entire being exploded, a melodious ringing sound reverberated.
In the next moment, at the place where the floating book was once located, the golden light that bursted out of Lin Xian’s body converged.
Slowly, these golden lights seemed to form an object. It started as a blob of golden sphere, then from that blob of golden sphere, head, arms and legs sprouted, making it more and more human-like with each passing second.
A few minutes later, from the blob of golden sphere, a golden human figure formed. Then from this golden human figure, physical features slowly emerged. From head to toe, the golden human figure transformed into a bare and almost identical body of Lin Xian before it exploded. However, compared to how he looked like before, this new body was evidently younger. It was less taller, less mature, and it had skin as flawless as a newborn child.
Rather than saying that Lin Xian’s body had become younger, it was more appropriate to say that his body had been reformed anew.
As his new body emerged, Lin Xian was still unconscious, unknowledgeable of whatever happened in the space-like place or the outside world.

Raven: The Beginning
'What's the worst that could happen'? is what I thought to myself as I entered the World of the Veil with a new, experimental machine that the company created. I was originally excited to participate in their alpha test, and now, looking back, I was just a naive little girl that didn't know what it was like to truly suffer. Sarah was one of the world's best assassin players, but she wasn't prepared for getting stuck as a low-level player in a new game. Suddenly she has to struggle just to survive against the monsters of the world, while also keeping her secret from the authorities. What happens when the killing, and the consequences, are just too real? Author's Note (and a Warning): This book is about a normal person that is forced into a fantasy / medieval environment. What could possibly go wrong with our heroine? This novel is a sort of, legacy. I wanted to at least put it out there before I passed away due to a combination of financial difficulty, homelessness, job loss, and my last interview taking up the last of my savings (which I did not get the job). If by some miracle, and I get a job that can give me a pay advance by next week (4/8) and I survive this turbulent time, I will edit this - and the formating of the book).
