《The Ultimate Human》Chapter 05 : The barrier
Advertisement
When they arrived at the barrier several kilometers away from the island, it was already dawn.
They stood not far away looking at their own reflections through the barrier that looked like a giant mirror.
"Weird. From here we can't see outside, but I'm sure that I could still see the island when I swam to it." Davis said.
Aldric then said: "Try and see if you can still pass through it."
Davis then advanced and then reached the edge of the barrier with a few steps. Walking still felt like a normal thing to him, even though he supported his body above the water with his mind. If he took another step and assuming he could pass through, he would just be outside.
He took the last step and then his body was like absorbed by the barrier.
"He...he really did it..." Aldric was once again shaken by the sight of seeing a human pass through the barrier. He could still remember what had happened a week earlier. Back then, among the uncountable number of demon beast souls around him, he had suddenly felt a human soul for the first time in a million years entering his soul sense range which was everything the barrier held within.
Back then, just like now, he was having a hard time believing it.
As if being possessed, blue lightning energy enveloped him and he then tried passing through the barrier at the same spot Davis' body was about to disappear from.
He had hope that he could exploit this situation to also leave the island.
Unfortunately for him, his dreams shattered the moment his body moving at nearly the speed of light loudly clashed against the barrier. He barely sustained any injuries but the mental blow was huge.
"Why can that bird do what I can't do? Why?" He was screaming like a mad man while hitting the barrier with all his strength repeatedly.

On the other side, Davis was elated, he had turned around to see if he could see the island and chanced upon the sight of Aldric slamming into the barrier then seeing him start screaming like a mad man. Even though he couldn't hear him, he understood that most of the curses were directed at him.
Davis wished he could immediately leave but his body being that of a Phoenix wouldn't be accepted anywhere on a planet where even magic existed only in the legends.
As reluctant as he was, he opted to go back to the island to learn the sufficient knowledge required to regain his human body. He could leave whenever he wanted anyways.
He then entered the barrier and found Aldric.
As if seeing his savior, Aldric was so overwhelmed with emotions that he almost started crying. He could finally see a way out of the island through the miraculous Davis. All he needed to do was to study him thoroughly and leave no stones unturned because a being like Davis was like a once in a lifetime miracle.
Davis advanced until he was a mere three meters away from Aldric and then said: "I think we should abandon inscribing the Undying Spell Matrix on my body. I do not want to see this body becoming stronger than it already is. What do you think?" After expressing his concern, Davis then waited to see if Aldric agreed with him.
Hearing that, Aldric just shook his head saying: "Remember that you'll never lose your Phoenix bloodline. The Human bloodline that you'll acquire will only permit you to look like a human while still being able to take Demon form like me. You'll have to keep balancing the two bloodlines to keep your human form. What I mean is that now that you are a True Demon with a Demon soul and all, your Human bloodline must be as strong as the Demon bloodline, perhaps even stronger to keep your human form. If your True Demon bloodline becomes stronger than your Human bloodline, your human form will have demon characteristics..."

Davis was annoyed and said:" Yes.yes. But you didn't answer my question. I don't want to keep upgrading my Demon bloodline."
"That would be a mistake. You see...The Phoenix bloodline is special. It has nine rebirths...and each rebirth randomly gives a special kind of fire variant law. You know it yourself...your first fire is the FIRE OF REBIRTH that can heal, rejuvenate and give vitality to anything. Your second fire will be the UNDERWORLD FIRE...A fire that can burn anything until not even ashes are left...You should endure a little longer and let me inscribe the Undying Spell Matrix on you so you can have as many rebirths as you can before you get your Human bloodline...I strongly advise you to ingest the Human bloodline after the ninth rebirth because you'll have gained nine variant fire Sparks Of Laws. Compared to me who only has three Sparks Of Laws you'll be even stronger." Aldric said in one breath.
"What's a Spark of Law?" Davis asked.
"Demons, Devils, and Gods' power system is to comprehend Laws. Comprehending or acquiring a law gives you a small crystal in your body that's called a Spark of Law. Devils are born with a Darkness Spark of Law inside of them. God's are born with the Light Spark of Law inside of them. As for Demons, only those with powerful bloodlines are blessed with a Spark of Law upon their birth. Other than comprehending the laws with the passing of time, you can also kill and steal the laws your enemy has comprehended." Aldric said.
Davis then said: "What about humans? What do they do to become strong?"
Aldric expected the question and then answered: "They dabble with Spell Matrixes which become Runes at their highest level. Runes are equal in power with Laws, in fact, they are like Laws themselves but the prerequisite to comprehend them and inscribe them on your soul is to have a human soul which Demons, Devils and Gods are incapable of having... except perhaps for Half-demons like me with a human soul."

Isoptera
Reincarnated, Crete finds himself not in some overpowered human body with the basic kill the demon lord cliche. No, he is reincarnated as a weak, powerless, and quite frankly worthless existence. Maybe his was a mistake, as he wasn't even reincarnated as a human but instead a humble and meek existence, A termite. Follow Crete as he adventures, without the memories of his previous life intact, in this New World, Honera. He trudges on endlessly with his indomitable willpower and journeys as a meek termite who is fraught with trials and tribulations; as he seeks for the power to just live in peace and without the prejudice everyone seems to have against his kind. Upload Schedule: M-W-F Hey guys this is my first attempt at a novel, based on the type of fiction I enjoy, it'll be mostly slow-paced at the start as I try to work out the kinks and learn more about "Isopterans". However, if y'all enjoy it leave a few nice reviews, or if you don't, leave some constructive criticism. Both would be appreciated. I also would be setting up a Patreon if any are interested in donating to help fund the story or you can send a donation through PayPal directly. Blood Quest - A LitRPG
Leon's family has been diagnosed with a new type of incurable blood disease. It's an absolute death sentence and when it turns aggressive, you only have a few more years of painful life left to live. His mother has just begun the last years of the disease when a person supposedly comes back from death with supernatural abilities. He talks about a choice you get after death--get an extra chance to come back to life, or die. Even with Leon's diminishing life span, he won't consider the option of going there, until he meets another survivor who had the same goal as him and succeeded. Leon has a choice to make—die now for a chance to save his mother, or die in a few years, where the disease rapidly melts his muscles from his own body. He enters a game-like world, a sort of limbo, where his ultimate goal is to climb the tower of Katastroph before his mother's time runs out. There are a few problems with this though. The tower is almost impossible to beat, if you die you won't revive, and only three people in over twenty years have actually made it back. Leon has two years to climb the tower, with the help of the few people willing to try, while Ai, the tutorial guide, makes things harder for them. ***** The story starts pretty dark but goes onto a lighter tone. Then (more) dark again. Disclaimer: This story is an experimental project and I hope to get any and all feedback you can give me. Warning: First draft. Chapters tend to be between 3400-4100 words long (about 8-11 A4-pages). Mentioning it since I've seen it in other fictions :P Sometimes they're shorter, sometimes they're longer. ******************************** CHAPTER RELEASES UPDATE: As the first "book" in the series is done, I'm going to release coming chapters somewhat sporadically, and when Writathon ends, I'll probably go back to publishing one chapter per weekend. We'll just have to wait and see! I hope you enjoy the story! I really appreciate all comments and feedback, so if you have anything to say, feel free to voice it :) ************ [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Looking forward to any constructive criticism, however, i already have in mind, the entire plot and tone of the story, any revisions based on feedback will likely only be considered upon completion. As of now starting out, i haven't really settled on a timeline for regular updates But I aiming for at least two chapters a week at about 2000 words each. I will promise at least one chapter of that size at least once a week, until completion. I'm rather determined to put this story on paper ( or web page i guess).
