Chapter 6-Mercenary for love

My mother, the goddess aphrodite that I should not make this trip, my mother had told me that if Zeus and the other gods were to hear of this I would get my wings ripped out, they would take away my divinity and make me roam the earth as another unknown figure who had no power, powerless against the other gods but hey why would I care, I got plot armour on my side anyways!

I told her, do not worry, even if I do get in trouble with the other gods, I will face them all, for I am the one who has made this decision, do not be feeling guilty due to my decision due to me wanting to make this trip, for it is all but my decision. As I entered the town, I saw a large, magnificent building that seemed to be towering over the whole city. I walked inside and I was about to go and introduce myself to start selling things and items in my disguise, one that no one would recognize me as, cupid or as the Greeks called me, Eros the god of love and desire. It may have been a night but the work was never done. I used to hate love, until I realized that if I don’t try to find it, how can I be expected to have it?

I am a mercenary for love, in a journey for love, is it impossible for me, a god who makes others fall in love, can I somehow obtain love without my own arrows, a man who can only give love to others only to be solitary for eternity? Is it even possible for me to discover love? As I thought this over in my head, I drew out my arrows and started to go on a hunt for people who were undecided on love more specifically who did not understand their feelings, on my way I spotted a man sitting outside the building he seemed lost deep in thought, I went closer to the man, I entered his mind and checked through his memory, he was named Nikola Tesla, he had been transported to this world along with 499 other geniuses, and one of them was his guild partner Albert now Alberta Einstein, a fellow genius who he seemed to have feelings for but not realize it.

I brought the arrow over to my quiver and shot, It went straight through his heart, his heart which had been struck by my love arrow glowed, but not only did it glow, but it had a beautiful silver color to it, it was a symbol for which meant he had met his fated one. I then sneaked away from him, went inside the building, and searched near and far for the so-called Einstein, and as I was searching I finally reached the top of the building, it was some sort of lab, I found her standing and thinking to herself as well, I saw her and drew an arrow once again for I already knew that gave of longing, it was the face of someone who was in love just like her counterpart, all I had to do was draw and let go of the arrow, I shot and then sneaked away, now all I had to do was wait for them to realize the feelings which would take only 15 minutes and then I left. In the search for more victims of love.

As Apollo entered he asked, hey Godie what are ya watching? Me? I am just watching cupid try to be sneaky, he probably took aphrodite’s joke warning seriously, does he think Zeus would not get punished if going to the world was prohibited? Yeah, my son is like that, he is overly serious, I turned only to find Aphrodite and Hermes, I said, oh hey Aph and Hermes! So hey aph, how long do you think it is gonna take him to realize that he is allowed to go to the mortal world any time he wants without sneaking out? Hmm… Probably like maybe 3 weeks because he has always been very trusting so, he is very gullible, Apollo then piped up and raised the question towards Hermes, wanna wager on that? Hermes responded to his question with a “dude, do you think I get paid enough to be able to take the liberty to bet, I get paid seven dollars and fifty cents a week as the gods’ mailman and shopkeeper. That’s true, you are broke, acknowledged Apollo, then let’s just chill out then. Ok, let us do that, as I stared at the tv, I saw how he was shooting an arrow into the heart of the guy I remembered meeting before, he was tesla, our electrician and lead world development leader, I thought to myself, how long will it take before cupid goes rogue and starts to enter his alter ego, Thanatos?

Tesla was now out of my sight, I started to think and think more, for yesterday I had been thinking of him all night, I had realized that I harbored love towards him,

I tried thinking of a way to lock these feelings inside me, love can not be irrational, or can it be?

As I was thinking about this, I heard a knock on the door, I stood up and walked over to find a man wearing a mask, with a star on one side and a bow on the other as well as a black cloak.

I asked, hello, how can I help you? “Ah yes, I am the merchant cup, yup, cup, that’s my name, and I would like to establish a commercial agreement with you guys here at the guild so I can sell my goods”, I asked, what exactly do you sell? He responded with “I sell only the finest silk, wine, love potions, heartbreak services, and I even got a speed dial service in which I can bring any good you desire if you can pay up the price.

I asked, wait did you say heartbreak and love potions? Are you sure that they work? “Yup, I can confirm it myself, if you want to buy one then I can get it for you but it will cost a bit of money “

The man then stepped out and said, “I will get your items in a moment”, as soon as I closed the door, I heard the wind and then I heard a knock, here ya go, here are your items you ordered. I looked at him and started to wonder how the heck did he get back here so fast? Oh, I see, this is a fantasy world after all, and gods are confirmed to be real, so I assume he is a god in disguise well I shall play along.

“Thank you for your purchase”, he thanked me and so I asked, do you have any other services you provide?

Well depends on what you want, I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, for everything so I guess.

Then do you have any maps of the world, we want a map of this continent at least,” oh sure, that will cost you 5 credits only cause I can get these whenever I want”, I paid him and then he reached within his pocket and gave me a map, and he then said: “well, it is the afternoon, it is about night time so I will find an inn, do you know any inns?”

As he left I wondered, assuming he is a god which one would he be, I do not think it would be Hermes because he would not mask his appearance because he has been the messenger of the gods and god of merchants plus we interact with them a lot, maybe the things he was selling have a clue.

As Einstein started to piece things together there was a thud outside.

Then the guild door opened and with it came Achilles as he carried inside a woman with beautiful platinum hair inside, he then said, guys, she seems to be unconscious. He asked me to check if something was wrong and I checked but found nothing.

Hey Apollo? Have you seen Athena anywhere, I have been looking for her but I can’t find her.

“I’m sorry Godie I have not seen her today, maybe we should check in with god’s council”

Yeah, good idea, as we were discussing, I saw cupid enter and then I asked, hey cupid where have you been today? He stumbled upon his words and said, I was watching paint dry, it is an interesting thing you should try it, I had to stop myself from breaking my composition, yeah whatever, anyways have you seen Athena? “Nah I haven’t”
