Chapter 12
Fortunately, Alphonse had found a river during his hunting, so Tsuki quickly cleaned the child and bandaged his wounds. Afterwards he decided to clean himself too.
So he turned to Alphonse, “I am going to clean myself and wash the clothes too. Ugh I have been wearing the same thing for way too long!”
Alphonse looked like a leopard with its ears perked up. He stood up and walked towards Tsuki, then smoothly said, “I’ll come with you. I have to wash too and I can help you with your back.”
Tsuki, being a foolish innocent soul, did not find anything strange with that and readily agreed. So he turned with clean clothes in hand and marched to the river with Alphonse following lazily behind him. If Tsuki had turned around at that time, he would discovered the tall zombie eyeing his backside like it was a delicious little snack.
When he arrived at the river, Tsuki didn’t hesitate in removing all his clothes. As he was bending down to pick up his dirty trousers, he got some chills, as if a predator was eyeing him to gobble him up.
So he quickly looked up with suspicious eyes to scan his surroundings. He turned to look behind him, ‘It’s only Alphonse and me…was it my imagination?’
With a shrug Tsuki walked into the river and said, “Alphonse hurry and remove your clothes. We have to get back before the child wakes up.”
With that said he bent down to wash the dirty clothes. Alphonse slowly shed his clothes while admiring the beautiful scenery before him. Tsuki body was slim and lithe. His skin was white and the dimples on his back were bewitching. It made Alphonse want to lick them.
Alphonse then moved his eyes to the two globes being presented to him as the other bent down. Those two globes were round and plush. It made one want to squeeze them.

‘They would fit perfectly in my hands.’ Alphonse thought.
Tsuki was oblivious as Alphonse stealthily approached him from behind. He happily wrung out his now clean clothes and put them to dry on a nearby rock. Alphonse took the opportunity to put his arms around Tsuki’s waist and stick to him.
“Wah why are you so close?!”Tsuki exclaimed. “Go wash yourself over there.”
“No. I’ll help you wash yourself.” Alphonse responded.
“What? No! I can wash myself, thank you very much!”
Alphonse ignored all of Tsuki’s protests and dragged him deeper into the river. Then he sat down with Tsuki in front of him and proceeded to ..ahem ‘wash’ the latter thoroughly.
“Hey where are you touching?! I told you I can wash by myself!” Tsuki protested.
“You’ll miss places.” Alphonse said as washed under Tsuki’s armpits.
“Hahahahaha please stop washing there, I am ticklish!” Tsuki pleaded while wriggling around.
“Stay still. Here I am finished with your upper body. Now to the lower part…” Alphonse said lowly with smoldering eyes.
“What? Wait no…. ah!” Tsuki finished with an ambiguous moan.
Alphonse’s hands trailed from Tsuki’s thighs to his private region, “Especially here, we have to clean it well.”
“Mmmm….hah where are you touching?! Ahn….stop touching this place…I can do it myself..” Tsuki tried to protest.
“Didn’t you help wash me before? Now it’s my turn to help.” Alphonse replied innocently while his hands were being naughty.
“Not like that!! I didn’t help wash you like this! And what is that hard thing poking me from behind?!”
“It’s nothing. You can help wash me afterwards too.” Alphonse replied.
With that said, Alphonse proceeded to ‘wash’ Tsuki thouroughly for nearly one hour. Needless to say, Tsuki had to be carried to the trailer afterwards as he was too exhausted from fending off Alphonse’s paws.

When they reached the trailer they found the little boy sitting down curled on himself. Earlier, Alphonse had spread the camping gear he had ‘found’ in the forest and placed the child on one of the camping bed. Said child’s face was red and was also trembling. At times he let out some whimpers too.
Tsuki pushed Alphonse’s paws from him and slowly walked towards the child, “Hey sorry. We went to clean ourselves and came back late because of SOMEONE. Hmm you are running a fever.” Tsuki said as he put his hand on the child’s forehead.
Alphonse casually sat down and said, “ The turning has started.”
“Yes it has. And we would have been here sooner if someone didn’t hold us back.” Tsuki daedpanned. “Anyway, you do the interrogation quickly! He is suffering already, so I want to give him the blood as soon as possible. Maybe it’ll help make the process easier and less painful.”
Alphonse carefully kept his expression blank as he heard Tsuki say that. He personally knew how painful the change Tsuki’s blood caused was. He dutifully turned to the child and asked, “Who are you? Where are your parents? How did you find yourself in this situation? And how did you get bitten? Answer all of these briefly and quickly.”
“Oh and how old you are too.” Tsuki added.
The child looked at them with dead eyes, “My name is Midori. No last name, not any longer. My ‘parents’, if you can call these disgusting pigs as such, left me behind to save their own lives. We had escaped the city with my uncle and his friends when we reached this village. My uncle proposed to enter and see if we can find food. My parents were hesitant but eventually agreed. So we entered and started pilfering what we could. Now that I think about it, it was strange that all the doors were opened and that there were no zombies. I don’t really know what happened next, but suddenly the group of zombies you saw earlier came from the forest and started attacking us. We were completely taken by surprise and surrounded. We were loaded with things we had just stolen so we couldn’t move that quickly too. One of my uncle’s friends was bitten and another zombie caught the woman who dared to call herself a mother. I even tried to save her. I grabbed her hand while bashing the zombie with a candle holder I had found. Who would have thought that she would pull me and throw me to the zombie. I shouted so many times for her and my father but they all sneered at me and said that they wanted to live. They had the guts to add that they had given me life and that it was my duty to sacrifice myself to allow them to escape. My uncle quickly took the short knife he always carried and cut me. They then used the frenzy that my blood caused to escape. They didn’t even looked back at me and just ran. No hesitation at all. They left their son, still a child, to fend for himself against zombies. I got bitten while I was trying to run away. My blood was attracting all of them to me, so I don’t even know how I managed to escape. All I know is that I ran as fast as I could and clawed my way up the tree in my desperation. As for my age, twelve years old.” Midori finished bitterly.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!
