《Aurelion》Chapter 18

I was in mid-air when that attack approached me. There was no way I could dodge it. "Shit, there's no way I can survive that attack head-on. That man was skewered so easily, so this attack definitely isn't just some illusion!!!" My mind was moving so fast it seemed that time has slowed down. Then, I got an idea.
"I can't believe I have to use it already. Hopefully Alduin wouldn't notice it." I closed my eyes. Then, I whispered at the tip of my lips. "Phantom Translocation"
My senses became blurry. I felt like I was spinning around and around. My body also felt so light it was like it's essentially non-existence. Suddenly, I felt a pulling sensation on my soul. I twisted my body into a position where I can straight away do a swing attack with my dagger whenever I needed to. My body felt just like it was a long tread, dandling around in the air.
Then, there was a stronger pull. I slowly opened my eyes. The world around me was blurry, but quickly came into focus. Then, I found myself right behind the hooded girl. The girl and woman were both still at the exact position they were in when I used phantom translocation, which meant time never moved.
I swung my dagger to the girl's neck. It was all so sudden that the girl and the woman didn't even know what happened. Then, I stopped my hand right as the dagger just barely touched the girl's skin. It left a minor cut on her neck. There was also a tiny drop or two of blood that oozed out from that tiny cut.
I know that, that is all I need to break her spirit. She was scared stiff and wasn't really breathing anymore. Then, I pulled away my dagger. The girl just fell straight down onto her knees, just like Ghork did when he fought against Alduin and used that all out attack. Then, she dropped into a ground sitting position. After that, she just stared onto the ground. I hoped that I didn't accidentally gave her any mental scars for the rest of her life.

I turned my attention to the woman. Although I can't see though her mask, I knew she should be staring back at me while trying to process what the hell just happened. "Having the upper hand and successfully working together with an ally to create a sure-kill combo, but your target just teleported away and defeated your ally, gotta be very scary and annoying huh?" I thought to myself as I walked closer to the woman.
When she got back to her senses partially and realized I was getting closer to her, she tried to back up. But, she was still so shocked with everything that she stumbled and fell onto the ground.
Then, she pulled out her knife instinctively and pointed it at me with both hands. "Get away from me!" Her hands were trembling.
I got closer to her. I pushed down her hands with my right hand. Then, gave her a soft pat on the head and said "Just admit defeat now." She instinctively nodded and the battle was over.
Just like after every match, the cleaners entered the ring and "cleaned" it up. They ushered the girls to the infirmary, also known as the losers' resting room. I joined in with the flow and exited the battle ring.
As I turned left to the main hallway, I found Brusken waiting right there for me. He was staring at me with a look of excitement and a whole new layer of respect.
I walked over to him. He looked like he couldn't hold back his excitement any longer. So, I said, "What's up?"
His eyes were sparkling at me. It was so bright that it kinda blinded me. He said. "Woah! Did you really just used teleportation?"
"Erm... It's not actually teleportation... in a sense...." I scratched my head. I felt like I was trying to calm down a puppy. "It's nothing all that amazing. It's just a simple skill I picked up."

"But I heard that only a few selected descendants of the great families can even come close to using teleportation." Brusken started tugging me. "Come on, just tell me. Are you actually from the great families?"
"No, I am not. I am serious." I wasn't lying. I don't even know what are the great families.
Brusken pouted, showing that he is unconvinced. "Then why can you use teleportation?"
"That wasn't teleportation. It's just something similar...." That was the truth, kinda. I don't want to continue this, so I tried changing the topic. "Our next match should be in some time. Do you wanna go get something to eat?"
"Alright!" Brusken said excitedly. It was like he thought I would bring him to have some luxury food or something.
"Well, at least I managed to change the topic." I thought to myself
"Before that, I think I should at least go check out how the two girls I fought against just now are doing. And also maybe apologizing because I feel bad." I told Brusken as I walked towards the infirmary.

We took a turns or two and walked along the passageways. Right as we entered the hallway leading to the infirmary, we noticed a familiar person.
It was that girl who made a bet and fought against Brusken. She ran towards us after she saw Brusken.
"Hey! I should properly introduce myself. My name is Francine. My close friends and family members call me Eff. You can call me whichever you like." She said in an extremely friendly manner. Nobody would have guessed that this girl standing in front of me right now was the girl who killed so many people in the first match alone, a super powerful short to mid range fighter. She extended her right hand out to Brusken, hoping to get a handshake.
I gave Brusken a little push, basically telling him that Francine, or Eff, here talking to him. He hesitated and said "Err... My name is... Brusken. I am a.... Dragonkin.... As you saw, I can use explosive powers." I gave him a little poke to his right arm, reminding him that Eff has her hand extended out. He temporized a little bit, but finally extended out his hand and shook her hand.
After that, she glanced over to me, the random man in his mid-20s. I got the message and introduced myself with my stage name. "My name is Renikno. I'm a dagger close quarters to short range fighter. Me and Brusken was about to get some food, why don't you join us?" I just randomly got a feeling to invite her along. It was probably because she was trying to get closer to Brusken.
"Really?" She asked excitedly
"Ask Brusken" I told her
She looked at Brusken with those adorable, begging, horrible, demonic eyes. Brusken got a little flustered and said "Yeah..... Why not?"
Eff got really happy. She really do looked like a teenage girl you would see hanging out with their group of friends more than a fighter who is ready to kill.
Eff then gave me a soft tap on my arm. It most probably meant "Thank you." But, I could tell it's not only for the meal.

Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Additionally, any views and beliefs expressed by the characters are not the author's own. The story is also not an endorsement of any actions taken within. The 'profanity' and 'sexual content' warning tags are there to be safe (and to leave room for potential future changes), but for now these two things are not inside this novel. This is my take on 'cultivation', though it might be somewhat disconnected from the general idea of the genre. Release schedule: Two chapters a week. The cover was created using wombo art. While I believe that creations using the app are in the public domain, if that is not the case, I will take it down.
