《PANDORA'S HEARTH》Prologue

Under the world of man, a secret prison was created. Not by hands, not by hammers, but by the spirit of a king who stands victorious. He has slayed every rebel and chained all those who surrendered, the only task left was to seal them, and let his treasures take over.
“everything is ready your majesty" one of them sang. It hovered around the king as a swarm of shards and merged itself to form glass steps that lead down the abyss.
“well done"
The king descended with the cage of enemies in his hand. Each step he took spurred his other treasures to action, causing them to dance in the air and surround the abyss with walls too high for any mortal to climb.
“where are you taking us?” one of the prisoners asked.
The king stepped on the still waters and walked towards the center of the dark sea. With his mind alone, he ordered his treasures to create four glass chains that attached the cage to the walls, making the captive's imprisonment final and irreversible.
“I the Absolute, lay down my verdict!” he declared, sending massive waves to and beyond the walls. “endless will be the days of your confinement! And mindless will be the state of your spawns! They will rise in their depravity, only fall by the blades of my treasures! You will watch them crawl, you will hear them scream, but you will not be there to help them. For you will remain here, in the darkness of the abyss!”
After the judgement was pronounced, the restless sea stood still. Not a ripple of water, whisper of wind, nor glimmer of light remained. Only darkness, and those condemned to embrace it.
One millenium later...
In the outskirts of the underworld...
Before a glass throne...

A sinner was forced to kneel.
His clothes were filthy rags, bloodied by wounds that would not heal. Unsightly, inhuman, unlovable, he was an abomination through and through. A failure who deserved to be thrown away, but was instead shown mercy, by a king he never knew.
“why?” he asked in utter disbelief. “why are you doing this?”
“what else?” the king answered with a thundering voice. “I want everyone to see, and everyone to know"
“I already told you!” the sinner clenched his chest. “it can’t be me! Why can't you understand that?!”
A glass sword materialized in front of him, and plunged itself deep in his chest. It was supposed to hurt, it was supposed to grant the end he wished for, but neither came. Rather than death, it was life that he recieved, or atleast, a vision of it. A vision of a place sealed behind two walls and four seas, where all the king's enemies remain.
“go there and be my messenger" the king said.
“I'm filthy" the sinner whispered, frowning at the dried blood painted on his hands. “using me will only stain you”
The sword shattered into a million fragments and reassembled in front of the sinner. It no longer wore the shape of a weapon, but assumed the silhouette of a man, bright enough to outshine the sun.
It stretched out its arm and showed a black orb rested on its palm. It did not have the rubbery appearance of flesh, nor the rhythmic pace of a heart, and still, the sinner knew exactly what it was.
“what did you do?”
The sinner slid a hand in his punctured chest and gasped at the emptiness his fingertips met. He still had his doubts, he still thought it was impossible, but for how much longer? If this strange king kept pulling miracles one after another, how much longer can the truth his unworthiness remain true?
“don't be afraid to be my witness...” the king returned the black orb on the sinner’s palm. This time, not as a poor imitation, but as a real heart made of flesh and blood. “I’m stronger than your weakness"

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.
