I bought a kilos worth of apples and returned home where Ryuk was reading my death note.

Kira: "Leave the book. I tell you in detail of what I'm going to do if you really want to know."

Ryuk: "You finally decided to cuddle up? Typical of you humans."

Kira: "Here. I brought you some apples. Eat as many as you like. But before you do, tell me this. Why do you like apples so much?"

While munching the whole bag of apples, Ryuk responded, "Haven't I told you already? The apples where I'm from just aren't as juicy as in this world."

Kira: "Now I'll tell you what I've been thinking."

I sat down on my chair, laid back and sighed.

I looked up and spoke,

"You act out of your desperate nature, craving for something more. Yet in the end, when you gain what you wanted, it isn't enough. You crave more. Humans are similar to you in that way. In fact, all living beings search for something more, something better to no end. We live our entire lives searching for true meaning; but I'm different from the rest. I see an ant's perspective instead of the bigger picture, knowing there's more to explore, knowing, that the truth is waiting to be discovered. Because, I found a part of the truth long ago, the only part that mattered."

Ryuk: "Oh? And what's that?"

Kira: "Nothing matters in this world. Whether you're rich or poor, kind or hateful, strong or weak; there's always a time when you face a repercussion. And by the time you're done facing this tedious cycle, you'll die in a moment's notice. That's the cycle of life. Beautiful and yet so ugly. In this cycle, I'll fulfil whatever task necessary to leave with my best performance; to complete this cycle once and never again. For that, if I have to abandon my perspective, my reputation, I will."
