《The Pentagon》Chapter 3: Weapon Selection II

"Well, it isn't confirmed, but I did say probably!". Sam put her two fingers up aswell as her tongue.
"Please can you try to elaborate?".
I've never been so confused. She didn't even try to explain it.
"Oh sure. I can't confirm it as we don't know if you have an Affinity yet, however if you do have an affinity, this means you have special mana abilities. This means you should be able to learn Mana type Abilities, although Skills are different. I'd recommend using a hand gun, or maybe a bow. Something that's range atleast, although you need to learn how to use the weapon too. Instead of sparring you'll be having one on one lessons with me for the whole period".
"Uh okay. But what do you mean by affinity?".
We don't learn anything regarding mana so I'm so confused.
"Oh yes! Sorry, I keep assuming you know things. Anyways, some people have affinities to any object in this world, and you can have propertie of said item in the world. For example, I'm a Specialist like you and my affinity is a Safe. This means my Abilities are revolved around storing and keeping things safe, however my Modification is completely different and used for combat, so If I'm honest in terms of being inside Pentagon I'm not really a Specialist, just a ranged combatant I guess.". Sam had a smug look on her face as she mentioned being a Specialist, however it dulled down as it's not very useful in combat.
"Wait what's your Modification?".
Silence for a minute. She didn't answer the question.
"Okay cool! When do we start?".
I'm actually excited, how cool is this?
"Well, let's go to a different room then, I can't be bothered explaining everything to everyone". Sam started speaking to Mr. Smith and then pointed to me, we were going into a pretty small closet. If another two people came inside it'd be cramped.

"Okay! So let's start I guess, and after we find your Affinity, we can find a weapon for you. Sometimes if you're lucky you may need to get a custom made one!". Sams eyes started sparkling with the mention of that. Neo's eyes also sparkled.
"First, get into a position that makes you feel comfortable, and try clear your mind. The clearer your mind, the faster this will be". Sam also did the things she was saying.
I didn't say a word and just followed her instructions. I sat there with my legs crossed - it's comfortable. I also thought about emptiness as It'd help clear my mind from mundane worries.
"When you've done that. Think of a starry night, except the stars are blue. Small stars, sparkling on a black blank canvas. In 30 minutes, tell me the shape so I can draw it".
Neo didn't see what she was doing, however she put on glasses and got pencil and paper out.
20 minutes went by, and Neo was still quiet and focusing on these blue stars, until another 10 minutes later he started speaking about what he was seeing.
"They're forming a circle, however the circle isn't perfect. Actually, there's two circles, ontop of eachother with a small gap. The top is smaller than the bottom one. Eight legs in total, 4 on each side. It looks like a spider. Yeah, a spider".
As the picture came together, the blue stars changed colours.
"Wait, they're changing colours! Gray. They're not blue, they're gray".
Sam nodded her head. "Okay, open your eyes. Did it look like this?".
Neo turned his head to look at the drawing.
"Yeah! That's pretty perfect". Neo was confused, it was pretty spot on.
"Thank the glasses. Anyways, it confirms it. You're either have a Web or Poison affinity, and since the colour is gray, you're a support type".
Neo flinched at the word 'support'. I don't want to be a support. I want to kill things.

"Yeah yeah. I know what you're thinking, but get over it. It's not going to change".
I rolled my eyes, how harsh does she need to be?
"Wait, why aren't I Spider affinity?". She said she had the 'Safe' Affinity, so that means she probably had a picture of a Safe right?
"Oh because your picture is a living thing, a Spider. For that reason, you have the characteristics of that living thing, and not the animal itself. For example, characteristics of a spider include having a venomous bite in some species, and being able to cast Webs. You're going to have either one. On the other hand, my affinity is an inanimate object. That means I have it as it's come. Count yourself lucky! Yours is way more specific that mine, I even almost got kicked out of Pentagon since my Modification is awful!".
As she mentioned almost getting out of Pentagon she tried to change the topic as quickly as possible. I'm also kind, so I'm obviously not going to pry into information she doesn't want me knowing.
"So what now? Can I use my affinity or what?". I just wanted a unique power. Please, I need to have more than just having good Stats. I also want to be unique.
"Aha! If it was that easy then I wouldn't be here. You need to learn how to use Mana first. There are three skills. Producing Mana, Mana Consumption or Absorption and Mana Projection. After that, you need to get these skills to C to use them at a stable level to start learning your affinity. This should take around a month".
It had been an hour already. Although we spoke for around 30 minutes.
I didn't question it taking a month. This isn't surprising, being a Specialist is obviously - Special.
"So what now? Are we going to learn Mana stuff?".
"Nope, we're getting you a weapon, we can look at the Specialist weapons in here, I can't tell you what to pick as I don't have the same affinity, and obviously your stats play a role. Focus on the picture in your mind for 10 minutes, and open your eyes and you should see a strand at the one of the weapons, follow me".
They walked out of the closet and went into another. Whilst we were doing this we saw the other class members. All of them were dilligently. Honestly, I'm not surprised, this is an elite class. God knows how I got involved. I guess I should be glad.
Two people stuck out to me. A girl using a dagger, and a small boy using a.... shovel?
What? Whatever, I won't question it, circumstances I guess.
We walked into another closet, and there were weapons everywhere on the floor, and they were quite messy.
"Ah, this must be from yesterdays class from second years. I guess someone changed their weapon". Sam shook her head whilst she was speaking.
"Okay I'm going to wait outside, this needs concentration. Just do as I say".
As I looked around, you could see average weapons and some quite unique looking ones. The average, normal ones could be found outside, whilst the unique ones probably are the Specialist ones.
A scythe, a small hammer and a large one, and a disgustingly thick pole. These were to just name a few.
Neo wanted to get this over with and did as Sam asked.
He imagined the gray spider in his mind, and 10 minutes later he opened his eyes like he was asked.
He followed the grey like thread. He uncovered a lot of weapons and found what the grey stuff was surrounding.
It was a packet of something. He opened the packet.
Only to be met with Sewing Needles. Average. Sewing Needles.
Is this a fucking joke?

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here.
