I back against my door, inhale, then force a smile.

I open the door and they stop eating. Tesyn awaits my order, Markus looks down with eyes closed, all while Thadius keeps eating. I pull my chair out, "Still no sign of them." Markus drips tears, Tesyn sniffles and Thadius stops eating, "You were going to tell us something, why we're running." I open my mouth and pause before speaking, "It's too dark." Thadius waves with his head, "It must be said." I gulp at his emotionless gaze. I relax in my chair and close my eyes.

I was birthed into a world of this, Powerful demonic beings, killing off every angel in their way. Angels forced to make children with demons. A taboo to angels. Lucifer had such a son, half demon, half angel. It was said he pushed them back in mere minutes, destroyed our monuments with cataclysmic force. He hunted us all down, one by one. I assisted our soldiers from afar.

I cry as memories come back, They knew so much, the oracles. They knew it was over, extinction. I ran to you kids so fast. I lost more than one in my retreat. You five-three are the only children I could save.

Tesyn bawls her eyes out as Markus bangs on the table, "Why are we running!? We should kill them all!" Thadius rubs his chin, "You know why." He bangs the table as I wipe my tears. There go the happy dinners, two empty seats, never to be filled like they used to. And now they know, the death looming above their heads.
