《The Sinful Mortal》Elite

The next day, Artix woke up as usual and went to class. After class, he went to Ma'am Helary and asked her about the elites.
"Why do you ask?" Asked Helary.
"I want to join the elites," replied Artix.
"And why do you want to join the elites?" Asked Helary even though she knew what his answer would be.
"To become stronger," replied Artix. Actually he wanted to say that he wanted to die without regrets, but he held himself back wisely.
Helary sighed, took a look at Artix and began to explain, "I don't know their current standards, but I remember that in the exam three years ago they had on average a domain that covers 600km. That's excluding the freaks in the 1st class."
Hearing this, Artix wasn't too surprised, in fact, he was a little relieved. Every 10 normal practice sessions, that is using mana, would double the range of one's domain until it became about 4km. At that time, every 10 practice sessions would add about 2km to the domain. The earliest a normal human can start practicing was at the age of 32. If said human practiced daily for 5 years, without having to worry about resources, then their domain would be about 400km. The average of the elite class was only 50% more.
Even though one could control the mana in their domain, it puts a huge load on one's body and soul, if they had one, to control mana farther away from their body. Also, even though one could project their consciousness anywhere inside their domain, they could only observe a limited sphere of space at a time. Domain Warriors could observe a sphere of 1 meter. Law Phase Warriors could observe a sphere of 10 metres. Finally, Law King Warriors could observe a sphere of 100 metres.

"Right now, I estimate that their domain should be about 1000km," said Helary, then she asked curiously, "how far can your domain reach now?"
"8 metres," replied Artix rather embarrassedly. At this moment, Artix felt grateful that he hadn't gone to ask Edward instead.
Helary couldn't help but smile, "It's good to have a goal."
Artix hurriedly said, "Yes, yes. A wise man once said: 'If you have a dream then it's better to dream high'."
Helary felt amused and asked curiously, "who said that?"
"A wise man," Artix replied seriously, then he quickly changed the subject and asked, "What about the theory part, Ma'am?"
"You should score above 100 to qualify, you should also have a weak connection with at least one law," said Helary simply.
"Ma'am, is there no other way?" Asked Artix hopefully.
"I am afraid not," then she thought of something and said, "Unless you become a Law Master."
Hearing a new term, Artix couldn't help but ask, "Ma'am, what's a Law Master?"
"You know that a Law King can form a connection with the laws, right?", Artix nodded his head, "the deeper the comprehension, the deeper the connection would be," Artix nodded his head again, "when their understanding and acceptance of a law reaches a certain stage, a permanent connection is formed. That's a Law Master. For example, if someone comprehends space deeply and accepts space," she stopped Artix from raising his question, "don't ask me what accepting space means, look it up yourself," she continued to say, "Anyway, then this person will become a Space Master."
**********
Artix went back to his room and fell into deep thought.
'With my current progress, it isn't difficult to enter the top 1000 classes. But, the elite class is out of reach.'

'Although my practice is quicker, I can only practice once every 7 days. Even with the resources from the top 1000 classes, I should only be able to practice once every 3 days. At this rate, I would still need 6 years to catch up.'
'I need to either think of some way to gather my own resources or to buy them'.
'I'm only 40 years old and they wouldn't allow me to go to those desolate planets and try my luck, as for buying, hehe...'
As for the thought of using his chance to go to the Eternal Road, that didn't cross his mind. The chance was too precious to waste. One had to be at least a Law Phase Warrior to make good use of it.
Suddenly, he remembered what Ma'am Helary said at the end.
'This might actually work'.
Atrix decided to try and become a Law Master. Artix naturally chose the law he was most close to, the Death Law. This wasn't his guess. When Artix used his consciousness to observe the laws around him, he felt the Death Law giving him a different feeling than what other laws did. Artix knew that this was different from a connection. He didn't know what it was before, but he did now. Artix knew he had accepted death. He could guess the reason for this, it should be something to do with his goal. He only needed to complement his understanding of the law to become a Death Master.
'Hmm, even if I neglect the theory exams and fully focus on studying death, I am confident that I would place in the top 5000 classes. But, if I manage to become a death master, then I would have saved 6 years'.
With that, Artix decided to take the bet.
The next day, after class finished, Artix went to the library. He looked around to find books that explained the Law of Death. He found that such books were quite few in number compared to the other laws.
'Maybe it's because of fear that they don't dare to approach it,' Artix slandered secretly.
He only managed to find 6 books about death in the whole library. Atrix could only hope that these books would be enough or it would be troublesome to find more. He grabbed one which had the title, 'Death Law for dummies', and went to the front desk to borrow it, then he returned to his room.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
