Volume 1 Chapter 1 Prison Break
Mars was never about mindless killing, a slaughter was way too barbaric for him. Really an old man like him liked way more a carefully planned double murder disguised as a suicide gone wrong.
But this world sometimes simply doesn’t give you the chance to do what you love.
Mars thought once again that his cell was not comfy enough; he still thought that if they were to put him in for fifty years, they would have given him at least a bed, but no, here he was tied with chains keeping him from standing or from resting on the ground.
While prisoner 001 of the high security prison Bonerest was mumbling in his cell, the eight guards that would always keep an eye on him were entering the tedious process of changing places with the people of the next shift.
Spencer, a relatively new guard, was pretty curious about the strange prisoner that occupied the only extreme security cell of all of Bonerest. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a high enough Security Clearance to even know the prisoner’s crimes.
Spencer asked his superior for a promotion, time and time again and today was finally the day he would be getting his new job; team leader, coming with that was of course the right to know the various crimes of the outlaw named Mars Michael Augustus.
In his dark cell, Mars finally heard it, the sentence he had waited for fifty years.
The dark figure had appeared in his soul, it swept with it’s gaze Mars’s cell before saying: “It is time, the preparations are all done.”
After the short sentence, the origin of all of this retreated in the shadows of Mars’s soul.
The old man, still looking like he was in his twenties, opened up his eyes with energy he shouldn’t have. His metallic straitjacket had the useful function of suppressing the Chus generation of anyone below Legend level.

Fortunately, the moment the jailors put the constraint on him Mars had used his remaining Chus to slightly damage the mechanism.
During his fifty years, he was able to gather up shreds of Chus until now, he had enough Chus to break free and of course, he had just received his orders: Breaking out of this unpleasant place.
Mars sent wave after wave of Chus in the weird restrictive jacket, each unit tearing bits of the important area of the clothing. Slowly Mars could feel new Chus being absorbed in his body.
He felt it, the liberation, after eighteen thousand two hundred and sixty two day, he could finally feel like himself; a powerhouse suppressed for so long was coming out of retirement.
Spencer, still in the office of his superior, heard the alarm going off in all of the prison. And his superior face went numb from fear and sadness.
Quickly, every guard in the prison was ready for the escapist, armed to the teeth, concentrating as much as they could; To absorb the most Chus possible before the great brawl that was brewing.
The tension on the employees was way too much for them, it was the first and only time Mars had even tried to escape and it seemed like he had already got rid of his greatest restraint.
However, Mars still inside of his cell was skillfully getting rid of the last nuisance that would slow him down during his breakout, only keeping the chains around his wrists.
He had never fought using chains directly binding him but there was a first time for everything.
He took a slow breath and another one, fully ready he used his principles to summon a sword, he knew full well that the outside world was dangerous and he needed to reaccustomed himself to fighting.

The guards' formation around the cell was tight, they were slowly relaxing, and some even thought that it was a false signal: After all, what kind of prisoner would wait fifty years before trying to escape. It simply didn’t make any sense.
And in a blink of an eye, the door was sent flying and Mars was cutting down human wave after human wave.
The little army couldn’t use any kind of magical attack in risk of hitting their own men and Mars knew that.
Not giving his enemy any chances, Mars quickly cut the head off his current adversary before moving on, he felt the enchanting joy of fighting, of not knowing if you could survive a situation.
The warlord had to do a lot of things at once; fighting was only one thing of many. He was multitasking while fencing off groups of enemies.
Absorbing Chus, counting his opponents, battling and trying to contact Origin at the same time. He hadn’t even thought about his sword’s durability.
And like a bad omen, when he ultimately thought about it, his sword broke.
He was hit with a spear in the chest, but despite his bad luck, he was fortunate enough that his rib cage had taken the brunt of the damage rather than his vitals.
Summoning a spear, he angrily stabbed five times the lucky jailor that was able to hit him.
Promptly looking back at the boy, he realised his own lack of practise in the last couple of years.
Mars thought out loud: “Crazy, it’s like I couldn’t practise my weapons skills for a long time.”
He heard a loud magic spell coming from an upper floor, swiftly looking up while parrying a sword, he saw an enormous fire falling right on his floor.
Quickly sending Chus in his eyes to analyse the attack coming at him, he got the basic information of the spell.
-Temporary Combustion Series 1
It came from a Fire path user. But by further analysing he saw a hidden attack within the fire, a Poison path attack.
Mars and the remaining guards were swallowed whole by the fire of retribution that rained down from the ceiling.
Mars said: “Shit, these people should be put in jail. Who with a sane mind would send a large-scale attack on their own troops, just to kill one enemy?”

Disclaimer: I'll leave this on here for anyone to read. The last time I uploaded a chapter was nearly a year ago, and to all the readers who still kept their trust in me after I came back from my umpteenth hiatus, I am sorry. I will not carry on writing this; I started off without the correct foundations of a novel, nor commitment to fully finish it and I do not want to lie to you all once again. Maybe one day, I may decide to re-write the novel, with a new basis or at least a comprehensive starting point with many of the narrative errors cleared up; but, till then, this is goodbye. And, once again, thank you for the motivation you gave me. Even now, I see many emails come through with people commenting. Goodbye. A child blessed by the Astral. An unprecedented destiny. Watch his path, as he marches up the stairway of Heaven. A March of a Sovereign. [Adventure, Wuxia, Martial Arts, Fantasy] This is a Qihuan novel; it has eastern and western fantasy elements. More often than not in Xianxia or Xuanhuan there is a severe lack of character development, being a western writer I'm changing that. My characters, from my totally unbiased view, feel fleshed out and actually have emotions. This is my first attempt at a novel, I'm writing as a means to better convey my thoughts. I will, hopefully, steadily improve chapter-by-chapter. I'm very open to feedback and constructive criticism. As one can see this is a cultivation novel, so you know how this goes. I've decided to jump-start the whole rags-to-riches scenario. He is strong from the start and is given the utility to do so. *The cover art is not my own, all rights reserved to the owner. I will take it down if necessary. *The style of the recent chapters is comparatively different than Chapter 1.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!
