There's only one anchor that always works.

Fear only works in the light,

when it's made of steel -

but as soon as you start drifting

suddenly it's made of nightmare and shadow

and you let it chase you farther away

than you ever intended to go.

God's love never fails.

God's love is the anchor I've tried to refuse

saying, "no, this is gold-plated,

it's too good for me,"

but it's not gold-plated:

it's solid gold with a diamond chain,

and my worth never entered into it.

God because He loves.

True fear listens and does,

like when you don't touch the fire

because you're told it burns -

and I'm not good at this,

but I want to get better

because I'm told it's worth it.

True fear is powered by love.

So wrap that diamond chain around me,

and dig that gold weight in deep -

"such extravagance,"

the shadows whisper,

and I say, "Yes it is -

but isn't that just like God?"

Because it is. It's exactly like Him.
