《52 stories》Week 5: Heroes and Villains
Advertisement
*Third POV*
He was so proud of himself! He finally became a Hero. A real Hero that people would look up after. He was also really pleased by the Hero name that he found a few days before making it official, ''Silver Shield''. His wings aren't exactly silver but they look like it and it sounds more heroic than ''Iron Shield''. He chose shield because he uses his wings more to protect people than to fight agaisn't villains. He can use some of his longest feathers as a kind of sword, but he only use them when he doesn't have any other choice. His Hero outfit was really simple. He was never the one that wanted to get attention. His big metal wings were already enough for him. Simple shirt and pants with lots of pockets to carry around the things he would need in his Hero life. And of course a mask to hide his identity. All this power and Hero things was still quite new and most of the Heroes didn't like to show who they really were. Blame it on the comic books you could say, it also look more Superheroic to wear a mask! So here is our hero, all dressed up and patrolling around the city, being on the look out for some Villains to stop or people in need of his assistance.
*Silver Shield POV*
I'm walking in this now really familiar street of the city. I have been patrolling this zone for quite a while now. People recognize me and some even ask for my autograph! I still can't believe it myself. I am a Hero. A real one! Well, I'm still a new Hero, I can't do everything yet, but someday I will be like the big Pro Heroes and save the world too! But for now, I have to take care of this part of the city.
I'm getting closer to the local grocery store and I hear screaming. i see some people running out of the store. A young man that just escaped goes to me and explains what is happening. Some blue girl are robbing this poor cashier! I tell him to get to safety and I make a quick call to my Boss, telling her what is happening in the grocery ''I am going in, looks like there is only one Villain, I will be able to handle it myself.'' ''Becareful in there, Silver Shield. I'm sending back ups anyway to make sure.'' She says right away. I can't help but shake my head a little, I'm a big boy now! I can't do it alone!
I step in and there she is, Miss Chievous, a really bad Villain. i have been trying to stop her for a while now, but she always seems like a step ahead of me. But I feel like today is the day. I am not letting her escape this time! I am ready for this ''You stop right there Miss Chievous!'' '''Oh, hi sweety! Want to try again?'' She says has she is putting the register money in her bag along with with all the stuff she just stole. I stand tall and say in my most intimidating voice ''You better come with me peacefully or else....'' She laughs out laud, interrupting me ''Or else what, honey?'' I jump right at her, trying to grab her wrist to handcuff her, but she moves out of the way and I miss. We keep fighting for a bit, well more likely I try to catch her and she succesfully dodge everything that I throw at her. But I then see and opening and jump in. I hear a big and loud clashing sound and as I look down, instead of seeing her hand, I see a blue shield ''Oh well look at that! You actually made me use my power! Congrats!'' She pushed me away and her shield switch back to her hand ''You are getting stronger everyday! I am so proud of you!'' I am about to answer with a really witty remark, but we hear in the distance police siren ''Oh well, looks like it is my time to go. It was fun, but bye for now!'' She then switch her hand into a really long stick and pushes me in an aisle and run away. I try to follow her, but all the stuffs on the shelves fall on me and I get stuck in it. My boss is going to hear about this! I told her I was fine and now look what happened!

*Miss Chievous POV*
I almost feel bad for him, almost. I hide in a back alley as some more polices and Heroes run towards the store. Looks like I am getting lots of attention. Too bad for them, I'm already gone! I push an old trash bin and step in the secret gateway, not forgetting to push the bin back in front of it before going down. It's funny how everyone knows about the ''secret underground'' and yet nobody goes in to look for us. By us, I mean all the Villains and bad people of the city. We pretty much all use those tunnels and we never get disturbed by any ''good guy''. It's really funny. I follow my usual tunnel to go back home. Today was a good catch. I have enough food and money to live for a week, maybe two if I am careful enough!
Some time passes and tonight I feel like having some fun. Either getting ice cream or comitting a felony, I will decide once I'm back on the surface again. I see some people in the tunnel going the other way. As one of them passes by me he says ''You should turn around, girl. He is right there!'' I roll my eyes ''Whatever Hero is in duty right now, I'm not really scared you know!'' ''Not a Hero. I mean HIM, The Void!'' and he runs away. I stay frozen in place for a while. The Void. This... Person, actually we don't even know if they are human. This etheral humanoid form that have been flying around for a while now. Killing random people and tearing down cities for the sake of it. I am about to turn around. I will have some fun later, but I think I heard something. This familiar voice. Please tell me this is not really him. I come closer to the exit of the tunnel, not really afraid of being seen since the trash bin is still in front of it. I can feel this etheral and chilling presence right above me, but I stay right there, because now I know he is right there. Trying to stop the Bad Villain. I don't hear anyone else. Where are your back up? Please tell me you didn't go in this all alone!
I can hear talking, then fighting. A really bad one. Clashing of metal and then complete silence. I wait a bit more, making sure this chilling feeling is gone and I take a look outside. There he is, the all Mighty Silver Shield, knocked unconscious... Or worst? No he is still breathing ''You're such a complete disaster.'' I groan as I scoop him off ''Like, how does anyone let you out of their sight. Stop picking fights with people you aren't ready for.'' He always wanted to be the greastest Hero, but how can he achieve this goal if he is dead!
*Silver Shield POV*
Oh god, my head! My body... Everything hurt! I let escaped a painful groan as I try to rub my forehead. But I can't, my hands are tied at the chair I'm laying in. I try to force myself out, but I can't, obviously. I hear footsteps coming my way and I wait to see who will come in ''Oh, great you are finally awake.'' ''YOU!'' I try again unsuccesfully to break free from my restraints and she rolls her eyes ''Sweetheart, chill out! The only reason why I tied you up is because I knew you would want to pick up a fight! But you can't afford a fight right now. You are way too injured! So please, stop!'' I look at her with this confused look as I try to remember what happened right before I ended up here. I was patrolling around and then... Then I saw The Void! I tried to stop him, but... But looks like I failed? I look back up at Miss Chievous ''Why did you help?'' ''I couldn't let you die there in this dark alley.'' I let out a bitter laugh, people would have come to help. She didn't have to do it ''I waited for almost an hour and nobody showed up. And it's not like I can walk in an hospital with an almost dead Hero!'' I look away, trying to process everything ''Why did you help!?'' ''Okay, only because I didn't have the luxury to go to that hero school and get that stupid license, doesn't mean I am mean and bad, okay! Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford your life!'' I look down out of shame. I guess she is not complety wrong...

She then asks ''If I untie you, you won't try to run or fight, right? I don't want to pick you up again. You are really heavy, you know!'' I only nods and I let her set me free. I rub my wrists as she hand me a bowl of soup ''There, you should be hungry.'' she laughs as she sees that I don't want it ''Yeah right, I spend the last two days saving your ass, but I put poison in your food! We don't waste food here, so eat!'' My eyes open wide in surprise. Two days!? I've been out for two days! People most be worrying about me, right? I must leave this place and go back, telling them I'm alive. But first, i am in fact starving, so let's eat a bit and then find a way to escape.
I'm about to put down my mask a bit to be able to eat and this is when I notice, I am not wearing it! And the clothes I am wearing are not mine! She sees that I start to freak out a bit. She tells me that she is all done patching my costume up ''It's not perfect, but you will be able to go back without your identity being discovered.'' ''What about you!? You... you saw my face!'' Again this laugh ''First: it's not like you were a famous person before your hero life. And second: I already knew how you were, so...'' I stare at her in shock. How does she knows me? But she doesn't give me the chance to ask ''Do you think you will be able to walk? It's a small walk back to the city. People finally noticed you disappeared, so I think you should go back and get real medical attention. I did my best with what I had, but still, you have really nasty wounds.'' After a few secondes, I simply nods and really slowly stand up. She tells me my costume is in the bathroom and I go get changed. As I undress myself, I look in the mirror and yeah, I can see what she meant. This is really bad. I have many wounds and I am missing a lots of feathers. I will be out of comissions for weeks for sure. I really painfully put on my costume and go back to the living room. She toss me a small back pack. I try to not let her see that it hurst the hell out of me, but this groan still escapes my mouth. She explains to me how to get back to the city and push me outside like I'm some trash. Rude much.
*Third POV*
Our Hero walks all the way back to the city. He had to take lots of break, atleast she put some water bottles and snacks in the bag. Once he got close enough to civilization, some random people helped him. He spent almost a whole week in the hospital. All the doctors and nurses were really suprised at how well he tended to his wounds while he was all alone. He didn't tell anybody that Miss Chievous helped. He didn't exaclty knew why, but he felt like he had to keep this for himself. There was something about her. Like he knew he should know her, but he couldn't remember and it was pissing him off.
Once he got out of the hospital, he went back to his small room in his headquarter. He didn't throw away the small bag she gave her. He was actually looking through all the stuffs she put in there. Water, food, a first aid kit. He then noticed a small piece of paper, he picked it up and read the small note on it ''If you ever wanna Smash, you know where to find me ;)'' He raised an eyebrow, what was that suppose to mean? And then again this feeling came back. Like he was suppose to know what that meant. Like he heard that phrase so many time before.. God did he hate his bad memory!

A World Forgotten
***This story will contain lite-litrpg elements, mainly character pages and a town page. There will also be settlement building and adventuring, missteps and achievements. But one thing it definitely won’t have is a harem. Nor will it have an overpowered MC. Contains mild cursing.*** ***feel free to critique my writing and offer input. This is my first venture into writing. I've always enjoyed litrpg/gamelit books. I feel like I write how I talk, so it may be a little different. You won't hurt my feelings if you see something wrong or out of place! *** ***What follows is a condensed part of chapter 1. Enjoy!*** Drew Cooper is thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. Waking up in his sweats and t-shirt near what seems to be a forgotten path through some woods, he struggles coming to terms that he's no longer in his apartment. As he tries to cope with his new reality, he hears a horse coming down the path. He hides behind a nearby tree dreading what may happen next. As the horse approaches, he sees a man walking next to it. The horse is burdened with packs and gear. When the man nears, Drew nearly panics. He has a large sword strapped to his waist, obviously a fighter. He continues to hide as the man slowly passes only for the man to stop a dozen meters past his hiding spot. "You may as well come out, ya know. You weren't as well hidden as you thought," the man stated matter-of-factly, letting the horse’s reins go and putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Slowly and scared for his life, Drew raised up and walked from behind the tree. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't planning on attacking you. I-I don't know where I am. I heard your horse and hid. I didn't know what you'd do if you saw me. I'm sorry," he nervously blurted out. A minute passed. Then two. The man seemed interested with Drew and stepped closer, eyes squinting as if trying to see something. "What's that on your shirt? Is that. What is that? Is that, Pac-man?" The man was visibly shaken while pointing at me. Looking down at his t-shirt nervously, "Yea. Yea. I woke up here a few hours ago I think. 3 maybe 4 hours. I’ve just been sitting here. Where am I? What's going on?" Drew asked. "That's not important right now," the man replied. " What's important is where you're from. What year is it?" "What year? April something 2020. Why? What's going on?" Drew continued now worried. The man was taken aback. After a few moments, he seemed to calm himself some. The man sighed and looked at Drew in earnest. "Well, I've got good news and bad news for ya. Bad news is you're not on Earth anymore. Good news is you happened to run into me and not someone else. You’re either really lucky, or it’s fate we met in these woods, and I don’t believe in luck." The man continued to walk towards Drew while talking and put out his hand. "I'm John Mitchell from St. Louis or thereabouts. You’ve got nothing to be scared of by me. Walk with me and let’s talk."

The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
