《The Star Goddess (Watty's 2018)》Chapter Five

I could only hear Cole's part of the conversation, but it sounded... odd.
"Yeah, I have her. She's upstairs right now looking for her room," Cole said over the phone.
I gasped quietly in surprise when I realized he was talking about me. What's going on? I thought to myself.
"I think she's adjusting well. I hope she gets along with the pack. I can't believe we found her after so long. Yeah, I know. I still have trouble believing her father is really gone. I can't believe her mother! She just abandoned her! I mean, I get that she has a lot of us to look after but come on! The only interaction she had with Stella was two years ago when she postponed her change. Wait, her eighteenth birthday? That's not too far away. Maybe we should tell her. I don't want to betray her. I already love her as if she was my own daughter. Can I tell her, Alpha? Well, I just feel she will trust us more than you. We've gotten to know each other quite a bit today so I feel it would just be better received if it were from us. Ok. I'll bring her in on Sunday. I'll tell her on Saturday. I just don't want her to change and not know what's going on. She's never had any of her own kind to explain any of this. It's going to be hard enough adjusting as it is. Ok, Alpha. I will see you soon. Bye," Cole hung up the phone and placed his hands on the table.
Cole looked up briefly as if he heard something so I turned back and ran up the stairs silently. I opened a bunch of doors, trying to appear as though I had looked around. There were a lot of beautiful rooms. Soon, I got so engrossed in actually looking around, I didn't even hear Cole come into the room behind me.

"Find your room yet?" He asked cheerily.
I almost choked on my spit, not expecting him to be there. Also, there was a lot of tension on my side because I had just listened to that conversation. I shook my head slightly as I took in the room before me.
It was a beautifully decorated bedroom with an extraordinary bathroom. Everything was so precise about where it was.
"This is our room," Cole remarked as he guided me towards the hallway. "Here is the guest bathroom," he murmured pushing open a door.
It was a rich purple with the same winters theme as a few other rooms. Cole closed the door and gently pushed on my shoulder to get me to move forward. About ten steps later, he stopped in front of another door.
"We tried to just pick a colour that would be neutral. If you don't like it we can change it," Cole said as his cheeks tinted pink. It was obvious he was the one who picked out the colour.
I opened the door to reveal the best bedroom ever. It was painted in my favourite colour, had an emperor sized bed, a sofa, tv, tables and bean bag chairs.
I squealed really loud with excitement and hugged Cole.
"Thank you so much! I love it! I love it! I love it!" I chirped. Cole seemed surprised by my sudden burst of affection, but he returned my hug.
"Of course, sweetheart. So you like it?" Cole chuckled lightly as I pulled back and made a silly face.
"Guh-doy! I love it!" We both laughed as I made another silly face.
The whole conversation I overheard wasn't forgotten, but I definitely felt better about it. He told the person he would tell me on Saturday and he kept saying how he didn't want to betray me or for me to not trust them. So, I trust them. I will trust in whatever Cole's plan is. He is, after all, my soon to be father.

Artemis
"Let them go, Dante." I whip my head to see a small boy standing the clearing with blonde hair and a green cloak hanging from shoulders. He isn't very tall however he holds his stance well. He doesn't seem to be more than Cassandra's age. Maybe 12 at most. I abruptly turn my head back hearing the man holding a sword to my throat chuckling with a sinister grin. "Oh, poor boy, what are you go to do about it?" The yellow teeth gleam as he begins stalking towards the boy who does not look the least bit fazed. I look around at the other men who are following the leader. I pull Cassandra tighter to my back as I take small steps back. I keep my eye trained on the men but also fear for the naive boy. "Do you really want to test me Dante?" He asks raising a single eyebrow. For a minute the men stop their movements. I see their hesitation for fear... Fear of what? I take the moment to stick Cassandra behind a nearby tree. She crouches down while I pull my sword out from its place. "How do you know my name?" The scoundrel raises his sword challenging towards the boy before taking a final step towards him. Then the unexpected happens. The young boy chuckles so darkly. It sounded almost... demonic. All the men instinctively raise their swords. "Oh Dante, I didn't know your name... but you know someone dear to me." "Spit it out boy!" The once grinning man is now looking around frantically. I continue my eyes scanning the small boy. He looks directly me and gives me a small nod before saying one word that caused all hell to breaks loose. "Artemis." Artemis is not an ordinary girl. She grew up in the wilderness after being shunned due to unique abilities and her different physical attributes. Blessed with an ability that scared others, she roams the wild with only her guarded one. That is until she stumbles into a situation that brings her in front of a prince.
