《My Vampire Ex》Good Hands

The silence in the car nagged at me. Jess was still passed out in and all I could think about was the pain I caused her.
A rustling came from her seat and my eyes drifted off the road to see her starring at her bandaged and chained wrists.
I struggled to find the right words. A few hours ago, she was incoherent; slashing at her wrists and begging me to let her die. Derek was right in saying he had broken her. I had waited to long to get her out of there. My feeding from her did nothing to help.
"How are you feeling?" I went with. It sounded ridiculous after I had said it, but it was the best I could think of.
"Fine, sir," she answered back too quickly. I felt the fear and pain pulsating through her body. She lied to me.
"I know you're scared and hurting. Please don't lie to me about your feelings." She didn't know it, but I was linked to her until my marks disappeared from her neck and that could take weeks.
My comment had confused her. "S-sorry."
I sighed. We pulled into the private airport and I put the car in park. I suppose now was as good of a time as any to tell her what I am. Maybe that will snap her out of the depression Derek had inflicted. I ran my fingers though my hair and turned to her. Her eyes were fixated on the gear shift. "Do you know what a siren is, Jess?"
She glanced up at me for a split second. "I think so, sir."
"Can you tell me what they are?"
"They're sea creatures who destroy ships and lure entire crews to their doom so they can feed on them. They're seductive monsters." She whispered.

My heart sank. Jessica was right. Was this a good idea? She was already terrified. Maybe letting her know my true identity isn't the best idea.
Before I could make the decision, something clicked in Jess's mind. She pressed her back as far into the passenger door as she could. "Your personality, the other night, your eyes, that song..."
I bit my lip. What did I just do? "Yes. I'm a siren. Well, half siren I guess."
For the first time all night she looked up at me. Her eyes were swollen from crying and her face was sunken in from malnutrition. I expected a thousand questions or for her to freak out, but she said nothing. I could feel her fear and it broke my heart. The last thing I wanted was to scare her. "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm still the caring guy you met the first day you came to the house."
Jessica nodded. "I know, sir, but you're still a monster." Her fingers went to the bite marks I left on her neck.
A knock came from outside my window. Jessica nearly jumped out of her seat. I rolled the window down to a man in a suit holding an umbrella. "Are you his majesty's packages?"
I nodded. "Yes. We will be right out. I'll pop the trunk so you can grab my things." The man nodded and walked to the back of the car.
"It's time for us to go, babe." That couldn't have come at a better time.
"What if I don't want to go anywhere with you." Jessica whispered. I knew she didn't mean it. She was probably trying to get me angry at her like she did in the basement earlier.
"I'm sorry but you're stuck with me. I refuse to leave you at Derek's and I'm not letting you kill yourself. You have so much to live for." I hopped out of the car and sped to the other side to open her door.

Guilt spread through her. "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't mean it. I don't know what's wrong with me right now."
I unlocked the chain hanging from the handle on the dash board and held onto it like a leash. "Don't apologize and no more formalities please. You don't need to be afraid of me. I will not hurt you."
Jessica nodded but I know she was still horrified. After what she had been through it is going to take years before she trusts another being. She glanced down at her leg. "I-I don't think I can walk on it yet. I'm sor—I mean, I, uh..."
"Relax, love. You're in good hands now." I lifted her out of the car.
