"The deadbeat father finally wants to be in his daughter life. Hell must've frozen over for this day to come." Amber exclaimed once she seen Shane get out his car. Shane roll his eyes, locking his door then walking to his ex-wife who was also Brittney mom.
"Nice to see you Amber. I hope we can have a regular meet up without all the bull." He remarked and Amber smack her lips.
"If you stop being a deadbeat then maybe we can do this more often." She remarked, rolling her neck.
"I'm not a deadbeat and I wish you stop calling me that. I'm in my daughter life." Shane told her, heading inside the diner.
"Yeah, right. Your more in that other girl life instead of Brittney. So, your a deadbeat." Amber told him walking in behind him.
"I'm not a deadbeat, I be in both of my daughters lives. Unfortunately, you make it difficult for it to be consistent." He replied seeing Brittney sitting in one of the booths. He was confused as to why she had asked to meet both of them here, but it was whatever.
Brittney finally look up once she seen her dad. Her eyes were red a little from her crying, she wipe her face and sniffling a little.
"Are you okay sweetheart?" Shane asked her once he seen her.
"I-"
"No, she's not fine." Amber cut her daughter off, Shane giving her a small glare.
"She's obviously happy to see her father since it's been awhile. Maybe if you stop being such a trifling ass father, she wouldn't be crying." Amber remarked, sitting down and Shane sat down beside her.
"Brittney, tell your dad how bad he affected your life. He's busy with that Crystal bitch that he doesn't even worry about us." She continued.
"Amber, your doing the most and don't call Crystal a bitch." He told her, keeping calm as much as he could. He didn't like lashing out, especially on his baby mother because he knew that would mess up his relationship with his kid.
Unfortunately, Amber was that type of baby mom. The one that punishes the child when the father doesn't want anything to do with them. It was obvious Amber still wanted Shane, but he didn't want her back. Co-parenting was all he wanted to do.

"Of course, you'll defend her. I mean after all, you cheated on me and got her pregnant. I hope it was all worth it cause you ruined a good marriage for a slut." Amber replied, this time Shane definitely pissed off.
"Amber, I'm sick and fucking tired of you and you playing victim. Your acting like I'm the one that stepped out of our relationship first. You stepped out and slept with my best friend and you thought he wasn't going to tell me. You didn't even do it once, it was multiple fucking times, and you have some nerve to be pissed off." He shouted at her.
Brittney sigh, leaning back in the seat. She had a feeling this was going to happen bringing the two of them here together. She just wanted to tell them her news and hopefully have a support system behind her.
"I do have the right to be pissed off. You fucked some random ass broad and ended up getting her pregnant. You made a damn child, I didn't fucking make one. Your a fucking bastard." Amber yelled back.
"I'm a fucking bastard, but you fucked my high school best friend. Any other time it's usually the guy coming onto the woman, but you came onto him. And so fucking what I ended up making a child out of my unfaithfulness, you would've also had a child if you didn't get a damn abortion. Like always, your playing the fucking victim when your the common denominator. Miss me the bullshit."
"Shane-"
"Oh my god, stop!" Brittney shouted, cutting her mom off. She look at her parents then let out a small sigh.
"Jesus, I asked y'all here so I could tell you guys something and y'all make it about yourselves. I'm in a crisis right now because I'm going to be a teen mom and I need help!" She shouted out of anger. Shane and Amber raising their eyebrows at her.
"Excuse me?" Amber asked.
"Teen mom?" Shane asked her, looking at her with a confused look on his face.
Brittney sigh again, "I'm pregnant. I found out some weeks ago, I'm so sorry." She apologized, seeing the look of disappointment on her fathers face. She started tapping her thumbs together underneath the tables, her eyes starting to water.

"I'm so sorry dad." She apologized again, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Shane nodded his head, "It's okay, it's okay. We all make mistakes." He finally spoke making her feel slightly comfortable. Amber scoffed making Brittney look at her.
"Mistake? Getting pregnant isn't a mistake, she chose to get pregnant. You chose to be fast and now your pregnant. Your getting an abortion." Amber told her, Brittney tuck in her lips.
"Amber, chill out." Shane told her and she roll her eyes.
"No, I'm not chilling out. She's not having a damn child and I don't care." She told him, shaking her head.
"It's her body, so it's her choice." Shane told her, turning his attention to Brittney. He could see the sadness in her eyes and he felt bad. Being a teen parent is a struggle, he wasn't one but he knew women who were.
"Brittney...what do you want to do?" He asked her in a calming voice. Brittney look from between her mom and dad then swallowed the huge lump in her throat.
"I want to keep it." She finally spoke, Amber laughing and Shane nodded his head.
"Okay." was all he said in response.
Amber shook her head still laughing, "That's just trifling, Brittney and I hope your proud of yourself. A teen mom? That's very cute, I hope you have a place to stay and money to help you because your out of my house." Amber told her and Brittney mouth dropped open.
"Mom..." her voice cracked, Shane moved out his seat letting Amber up. "Mommy..."
"Don't mommy me, you wanna be fast then gon' head and be fast. Take care of that damn child on your own, I'm sure your dad won't help." Amber waved her off then walked away. Shane watched her leave then look at Brittney, she had her head down on the table now and she was crying hard.
He got out his seat then went and sat beside her. He wrapped his arms around her, Brittney putting her head on his shoulder.
"It's going to be alright, I'm here for you. You'll come live with me and I'll help. This is entirely your decision." He told her, wiping her tears with his thumb. He kiss her forehead and just let her cry on his shoulder.
He was disappointed, but in the end he was going to be there for her. People make mistakes and she so happened to make one.
"Mommy look!" Miracle shouted as she ran over to the glass. She pressed her hand against it looking at the gorillas.
"Mommy, look at the gorillas!" She said lowly watching the gorilla come over to her. She pressed her hand against the glass, smiling hard. Beth chuckled, bending down to her daughter height.
"I know, how many are there?" She asked and Miracle started counting.
"Three...no, four." She answered seeing another gorilla come out and Beth nodded her head.
"Yeah, there's four." Beth replied, Miracle continued smiling looking at the gorillas. One even came up to her, placing its hand on the glass in front of her.
Beth chuckled at her cute reaction. She look back for Jahseh and Blu. She seen them sitting down on the bench, taking pictures with each other. She couldn't help but to smile at the two of them. She noticed how happy Jahseh was with her, not a single frown was plastered on his face when she was around.
That made Beth joyful to know that her son had a pretty woman by his side that made him happy. That's all she wants in life is for her kids to be happy, especially Jahseh. She knew the years that she wasn't here, shit was terrible for him. She knew she wasn't going to be able to go those years back, but she was going to make sure the years that'll come, she was going to be here for him and Miracle.
She pulled on her necklace, smiling to herself. It was the same necklace Jason gave her on her birthday years back. Her sister ended up keeping it for whenever she got herself together. That was something she didn't want her to sell since it was memorable. And Beth was happy that she kept it.
"I wish you was here baby boy."

Adventurer Book II - Dawn of an Empire Short story prequel- The Lurking Lair: An Adventuer Series Short Story Summary for the LitRPG savvy reader: Looking for a LitRPG that is more tabletop traditional role playing game and less MMORPG? This is probably your cup of tea. Long term progression with a heavy slice of life element. Strong mix and inclusion of ancient Greek life, values, and myths. Hence, the world can be a bit more harsh and brutish than modern sensibilities. The system is tangible and knowable beyond the MC's insights. The MC is more of an everyman than someone specifically chosen for the experience. Author's Note: This is my debut novel. Up until this point, the only thing I have written of comparable length has been non-fiction and related to history. I am immensely grateful to all the folks who have given me feedback and helped me improve my writing.
