《Voices - Liam Dunbar》Chapter 2 - Unlikely Allies

After and extremely long car ride filled with unanswered questions and Adela constantly having to remind Stiles to look at the road, they finally made it back to Beacon Hills. Lydia, Scott, Stiles, and Adela rushed Derek into the animal clinic as fast as they could. He was wrapped in a blanket and set onto the metal table. Deaton began to examin him.
Adela loved Deaton. He was always so nice and understanding. She would often go to him when she had a problem.
Looking down at young-Derek, Deaton appeared confused. "Wow," was all he said.
Stiles looked over at him. "Wow? Wow as in 'I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do' kind of wow? Cause that's the kind of wow we were hoping for."
"I think you might be over estimating my abilities," Deaton said.
Adela was standing by Lydia and noticed he worried expression. Before Adela could ask about it though, Lidia spoke. "He's getting cold," she said, holding his hand. "Really cold."
Deaton started checking Derek's eye response and taking his temperature.
"Do you think this is permanent?" Scott asked his mentor.
Deaton sighed. "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience."
"So what do we do with him?" Stiles asked.
Deaton looked at the four teens crowded around his work table. "Until he wakes up... probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."
"You mean from... Kate," Adela couldn't bring herself to call the woman her 'aunt'.
"If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate."
"Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia asked.
Deaton shook his head. "Knowing Kate, it's for a reason that won't be good for anyone but her."
Stiles scoffed. "And bad for everyone else."
"You guys should probably go home," Deaton suggested. "He doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night. And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again."
"I'm not sure that's possible," Adela muttered.
Scott looked up at Deaton. "Someone should stay with him."
"I'll stay," Lydia said. "My grades are fine... despite missing a few classes."
Stiles shook his head. "I'm so not okay with this."
Lydia swung her head his way. "Guys, go," she said through gritted teeth.
"No," Stiles deadpanned.
Adela looked over at Lydia. "My grades are fine too, I could stay with you."
"Del, you're practically my little sister and I'm not letting my practically little sister skip school."
"I skip all the time for supernatural stuff and my grades are still fine," Adela argued, raising her eyebrows.
"It doesn't matter, you have to go to school," Lydia said with an equally intimidating eyebrow raise.
"Text us if anything happens," Scott told her.
Stiles gave Scott a look. "Nope. Still not okay with it. I'm not going anywhere." Scott walked over and started dragging Stiles towards the door. "All right, just cause you're stronger..."
Scott cut Stiles off, saying "Common, Del," over his shoulder.
She rolled her eyes and followed the guys out to Stiles' jeep.

Since her uncle Chris was currently in Europe or something, Adela was staying at Scott's house. After Allison's death, Chris couldn't take staying in Beacon Hills. Adela understood but decided to remain at home. She wanted to stay with her friends. The problem was finding somewhere safe to stay. When Scott offered to let Adela stay in the guest room, and Melissa completely agreed that Adela should, she had been ecstatic. The only problem was that she was pretty sure Rafael thought she was weird but oh well. What can you do about being weird when you were born into a family that hunts supernaturals for a living? Nothing, that's what.

Since Adela couldn't legally drive yet, she either hitched a ride with Stiles and Scott or rode the bus to school. She was running late this morning so Scott and Stiles had already left. When she was done showering, she threw on a pair of skinny jeans, an off white blouse, and a pair of short brown boots. She added a vintage gold necklace with studs and a few bangles. Adela heard the bus and ran downstairs, grabbing her brown bag and muttering good morning to Melissa.
After a very boring ride, Adela finally made it to school. On time, for a change. She may have been a goody two shoes but she had major issues with time management. Fifteen minutes into class, Adela was checked out. When she walked up to the front desk she saw Scott and Stiles waving her over. Well, that fifteen minutes of class really wasn't worth her while. They explain on the way that Derek had gone nuts and somehow escaped. When they finally got there, Lydia was bandaging Deaton's arm.
"I don't think he's just younger in body. I think he's younger in his mind, too," Deaton explained, after telling the three what exactly had happened.
"He didn't recognize either of us," Lydia added, with a sigh. "And he looked like he was scared out of his mind."
"So if you're a teenage werewolf and you're scared, where do you go?" Stiles asked.
Scott looked at Stiles. "A wolf goes back to its den. But Derek lives in a loft."
Stiles made a gesture with his hand. "Not when he was a teenager."
Lydia and Adela looked up at the same time. "The Hale House," they said in unison.
Scott looked confused so Deaton clarified. "He wouldn't remember the fire. It wouldn't have happened yet."
A few minutes later, Scott and styles turned to go find Derek.
Lydia spoke up. "Hold on, say you do manage to catch up to him? What are you going to say? That his whole family is dead?"
"I guess I'm gonna have to." Scott sounded desperate.
"Oh, that'll go over well," Adela told him, sarcastically.
"Yeah," Lydia added. "Good luck with that."
Stiles turned to Scott. "She's probably right. Maybe you shouldn't. You know, at least until we figure out how to get him back to normal."
"I can't lie to him," Scott stated.
Stiles rolled his eyes. "Okay, I'll do it."
"I don't think any of us can," Scott turned to Lydia, Deaton, and Adela. "remember, he can hear a heartbeat rising." Scott nodded to himself, as if making his final decision. "When we find him, we tell him the truth."
Deaton looked approvingly at Scott. "If he gets to the house first, you won't have to."

As Lydia, Kira, and Adela drove through Beacon Hills, Adela began to ponder things. Well more like everything. She wondered what Allison would do. She knew that they'd been cousins in blood but Adela considered Ally her sister. They talked about everything, makeup, clothing, boys, Adela's parents, school. Nothing was off the table. Adela even remembered Allison telling Adela about she and Scott's first kiss in the boys locker room. At first it sounded dirty but after Allison went into more detail, Adela thought it was one of the most romantic moment she had ever heard of.
Adela was jolted out of her sappy revelry when Lydia pulled into a gas station.

Kira snapped her phone shut and looked at Lydia, then Adela. "Scott's going to find Peter, and we're supposed to meet Stiles at Scott's house."
"Peter, psycho killer Peter? Or is there a new Peter?" Adela asked. "Please say that there's a new Peter I haven't met?!"
Kira sighed and looked pained. "Same Peter," she said.
"That sounds like a horrible plan," Lydia stated, quite casually. If that didn't describe the group, Adela didn't know what did. Kira furrowed her eyebrows more, looking worried. Lydia, seeming to realize Kira's unease, added, "Oh we've had worse. Like, yesterday in Mexico..."
"About that," Kira started, looking like she was going to apologize. "Do you remember how we were in the club... you guys and Scott were chained up to electric cables?"
"Vividly," Lydia answered for both herself and Adela.
"I know," Kira looked down at her lap. For a moment, Adele hoped that Kira --for some odd reason-- simply wanted to remind Adela and her redheaded friend of there 'almost torture'. The tension was getting uncomfortable for Adela and she really wanted it to be over. But to her chagrin, Kira continued.
"I guess what I'm trying to ask is... If my hand was on the dial connected to you guys, and I had turned it up to ten--"
"Would we be angry?" Lydia asked.
"Yeah," Kira said, with a sigh.
Lydia and Adela looked at each other, then back at Kira. "No," Adela said for both of them.
"Because we knew you had no choice, exactly like Scott knows. And if you were worried about him, just remember... you're a katana wielding badass Kitsune." Lydia laughed slightly, then got serious. "And he couldn't be more into you."
Kira smiled big and Adela chuckled to herself. It might be weird to watch her dead cousin's old boyfriend fall for someone else, but at least she liked Kira.
"Now," Lydia said, stepping out of the car. "Grab a card from the visor so we can fill up. Uh, Beacon Hills Credit Union," she added, pointing towards the cards strapped to her car's visor.
"Does this many cards mean you have good credit, or bad?" Kira asked. Before Lydia answered though, Adela's eyes came to rest on the fuel tank. It read full.
"Um, Lyd? It says you have a full tank," Adela said. When Lydia didn't answer her, she looked out the window. The flower dress clad girl should've been right there, but she wasn't.
"Lydia?" Kira called. Without a second thought, Adela jumped out of the car, Kira close behind. The two girls walked around the front of the car. They spotted Lydia on the side of the gas station facing what seemed to be the bathroom. She looked focused... and scared. Adela had seen that look to many times to count. She started running towards her friend.
"Lydia!" Kira called again, no answer.
Adela ran up to Lydia, and asked her the question she already knew the answer to. "Are you okay?"
"Don't look," Lydia simply stated, but it was enough to have Adela shaking in her boots. She knew what she would see when she turned, but she did anyway. She gasped at the sight, and a second later, she heard Kira do the same.
The bathroom door was wide open, and blood was everywhere. Splattered on the walls, the ceiling, and pooling on the floor. The worst part was the man lying face first in his own blood. She was mutilated. It took Adela a second to identify him as human. And suddenly it hit her. She knew who did this. She knew this monster. It was her own flesh and blood. Kate.

Ten minutes later the sun had fully set, Lydia had called Sheriff Stilinski, and Adela was on the phone with Stiles. Derek was gone, taken by Kate, and everything was going to hell.
"Lyd called Sheriff. They're on their way," Adela told the detective of their little group.
"What does it look like? Can you send pictures?" Stiles asked her.
Adela sighed, looking at Lydia. "Do you mind?" She mouthed. Lydia shook her head no and started taking pictures of the small, blood filled bathroom.
Adela put Stiles on speaker. "To be honest, I have a 4.0 in AP biology and there are parts of the human anatomy I have never seen before on these walls," Lydia said, looking disturbed. She groaned, taking a picture of the body. Adela wrinkled her nose at the smell. It was awful. The fifteen year old had witnessed lots of death in her lifetime but this was more gruesome than anything she'd seen.
She examined the way his throat was slit. Adela suddenly had a flashback to seeing her parents. They're throats had been slashed the same way. They were so mutilated that their funeral had had to be closed casket. She could still remember her mother's happy green eyes, her father's smile. She pushed the memories away. Sometimes it's to painful to remember, and easier to forget she thought.

Adela, Stiles, and Lydia ran up to the school. Scott had called to discuss the game plan. Scott, Malia, and Peter were headed to the school to find Derek. When Scott called back to say they were in trouble, it was a warrior, a banshee, a kitsune, and a lanky human with a baseball bat to the rescue. Kira had gone the other way so it was just Adela, Stiles, and Lydia.
"You seriously need to find something better than a baseball bat," Lydia told Stiles, coming to a halt at the top of some steps. The three heard Scott howl and started running again.

They got to the vault and ran down the stairs. Peter was crouched on the floor in front of some sort of safe. Adela heard him muttering.
"It was never- it was never about the Triscalian. They- they- they took it while I was blind."
"Took what?" Lydia asked.
Peter stood up and turned around. "Bonds. Bare bonds and they took them all."
"Wait," Stiles said with a small laugh. "Are you saying you got robbed?"
Peter looked ready to explode. "This was a heist. Somebody planned this!"
"How much did they take?" Adela asked the rage-full werewolf.
"One hundred seventeen."
"Thousand?" Stiles asked.
Peter turned back to his empty safe. "Million."

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
