《A beautiful mistake》46

Torture. That's one word he would call what Kevin was going through. It was like thinking that things were perfect one moment and the next they were not. Not only was Roman worried by the fact that the bride hadn't showed up but also by the fact that Mikaella hadn't answered his calls.
So to be clear, he was as nervous as his brother was.
"Was the wedding too soon? Did I make her feel uncomfortable by rushing things?"
Kevin had asked and Roman to be frank didn't know what to say. I mean in his mind, the wedding was a bit rushed, sure Chloe and Kevin were so in love but taking it from his marriage, marriage was not a bed of roses. Did Kevin need to hear all that? Of course not, that would tear him apart and he would somehow start blaming himself for Chloe not showing up.
The thing about weddings was that, no matter how good they were planned, how good the food was, how spectacular the designers did their job or how lavishly dressed the guests were, one wrong mistake and it would be termed as the worst failing event of the year. By now, the paparazzi had flooded the church gates wanting to know why the bride was running late and the Cervantes family knew that if Chloe didn't show up in the couple of minutes, the grand wedding would surely end up in the tabloids. And not as grand as it was but as a laughing stock.
Roman tried calling Mick again and again until he was convinced that something must have definitely been wrong. They were in good terms in the morning. They even flirted with each other the moment she said he looked so sexy in his tux and he had jokingly offered that the fail to go to the wedding.

"Daddy I'm hungry, is mom here yet?"
His little man, Seth, tugged on his coat and Roman turned to face him.
"Mom's on her way. Why don't you ask Aunt Kimberly if she has something to eat in her purse?"
"You mean chocolate?"Seth's eyes lit up.
"Yes, but don't tell your mother I allowed you to eat chocolate"
"It's our secret dad. I never told her you broke one of her glasses"
And the kid ran off to where Kimberly sat with yet one of her many dates. It irked him how Kimberly refused to be one of Chloe's bridesmaid, had she been among them, Roman would have called her instead and got to the bottom of why the bride was taking too long.
"I think we should tell everyone that the wedding's off,"Kevin said with a face dominated with hurt.
Roman didn't know what to say, two hours and yet nothing. What was he supposed to say to him? Let's wait for some minutes? Maybe more hours? He couldn't do that. Any wide man could see that he had been stood up.
Roman gave his brother a quick pat on the back looking at his parents and mouthing 'the wedding's cancelled'. And as sudden as Roman mouthed those words the phone in Kevin's pants buzzed and like a madman he yanked it from his trousers answering the call so fast.
"Chloe?! Chloe. W-what...Joey? Where the fuck is Chloe? What? Where? Mick? Ruby is... Where is she now? With Liz. What about Mick? Where?"
Roman's ears on the other hand peaked up the moment he heard Mick's name mentioned not once but twice. Suddenly the thought that they might have had an accident on their way to the church came to his head. His heart beat rapidly, the bowtie around his neck suddenly choked him. What had happened?

As soon as Kevin finished the call, Roman asked, "What happened? Are they okay? Did something happen? Answer me Kev!"
And Kevin stood like a mortified zombie on the spot, like suddenly his soul had left his body and he was nothing but a walking corpse,
"T-they know"
"Know what, Kev? What happened to Mick?"
And dramatically he slowly slide to the floor and sat on the red carpeted altar. The gossips by now spread like wild fire on dry grass. Judging from the look on his face, everyone made assumptions.
The bride had called to say she cancelled
One said.
The bride ran off with one of her suitors
Another one jeered.
The Cervantes brothers didn't know how to keep women.
And another and another and another until the priest himself concluded that indeed there was no wedding.
"Chlo. Chloe and Ruby Grayson are sisters. S-someone told them the truth. C-chloe. I-I murdered her sister...they know, Ro...they know everything!" Kevin cried and Roman feeling devastated sat down alongside him.
"What about Mick? Where is she?"
Though the main question was, how roughly shaken was she? She probably hated him too without a doubt. Somehow sadness overwhelmed him, they were doing so well and yet the storm he had sensed was brewing came in without warning wrecking everything in its path.
She would hate him after what she found out. Correction. She already hated him and although his heart prayed she didn't, he knew she did and that broke him more than he could imagine.
"J-joey says she left... completely horrified. I'm sorry, man. I ruined your life with my stupid mistakes. I shouldn't have called you that night"
They were both hurting. And Roman so badly wanted to scream at Kevin. Kevin was right, he shouldn't have called him that night. That night changed him, so much that he lived in constant fear that what they did would be revealed. And now the one person that had actually helped him live, knew everything they had done.
"Oh come on, Kev. Something must have come up, you two love each other like crazy,"Kimberly appeared before the two brothers.
None of them stared at her, what would they say?
"I'll make sure the booze, doesn't go to waste," she teased and it did nothing,"Ro tell him. Help me cheer up the most handsome groom I've ever seen"
And again, someone's cell rung only this time it wasn't Kevin's but Roman's.
"Hello, am I speaking to Roman Cervantes? Husband to Mikaella Sandoval Cervantes?"
"Yes this is he" Roman gulped. These types of calls were never good.
"We regret to inform you that your wife has been involved in a terrible car accident and we would like you to visit the station"
"What! How's-How's she doing?"
"Am afraid we got there late, Sir. The body was burnt beyond recognition"

Haven in a Dangerous World (Old)
Devin McMullen. Female. 18. Single dad. Dead mom. Good in fights and little else. No friends. Or, at least, that's what she's always been. Now, she's not sure exactly what she is. She's never been one for reading fiction, or anything for that matter, but this feels like something straight out of a fantasy. Her newly acquired instincts, however, scream dungeon core. Whatever that is. Unlike most dungeon cores, though, she's missing something very important. A dungeon. Stuck out in the open, above ground where she's definitely not supposed to be, with not a cave in sight, or any other land form besides miles and miles of ice and snow, Devin's not sure if she can survive. Update: Big caveate, though, just so you know. Started with this one idea and ran with it as far as I could. Characters and plot suffer from it, but I'm proud that I wrote as much as I did. I will rewrite this at some point and make it so it actually has plot. Check out my wordpress © [koallary] and [Haven in a Dangerous World], [2017]. Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
