《The Empress' Son》CHAPTER NINE

To go straight to the point, I still managed to live and see another day.
Right after spitting those embarassing words, she teleported inside my room and tucked me to bed. Alas, I fell fast asleep without even knowing it.
Days has passed--6 days to be specific. Almost a week, yet it was a surprise for me. Kind of a new day. The Empress herself didn't make her presence here in the palace today.
With that, Klydeur and I had more time to play and study with each others. I admit, my hell of a twin brother is bright. Brighter than my intellectual mind. Still, I have my own intelligence.
"Hyung, how about God?" Klydeur asked with curiousity. "In the book, it says that he is a he."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "There are other books that said God is not just a male, but can also be considered as female. But as far as I know, God can be also genderless."
Klydeur hang his mouth open as he commented a "Woah."
"How about angels? Are angels real?"
I looked at him and smiled. "Well, there is. They are up there too." Pointing my finger up, he looked up as well, confusion evident on his face.
"Um, in the ceiling?"
"Ye--what?" I raised a brow. "No, not in the ceiling."
"Oh I get it!" Klydeur smiled. "On the rooftop."
What the..?
He's helpless. For what is his intelligence in education if he doesn't use his common sense?
I tried not to frown. "Angels are up in the sky."
"Oh, wow!"
Kids are kids. If he is embarassing enough, what more for me then?
"Your highness," Jamie walked over to us with a smile. "I apologize for my intrusion."
"It's okay!" Klydeur giggled. "Come, let's play a game!"
Jamie looks puzzled, yet remained a smile. "I am honored, but I have to decline," I triumphantly smiled on the inside.
Hurtful rejection.
"We got the news about her majesty, the Empress."
What Jamie blurted out next made me and Klydeur go serious mode.
"She returned to her previous palace and there, a war has occured against the royal family of the Caner."
Klydeur widened his eyes as he glanced at me. I glanced back and gave him a don't-act-suspicious look in which he understood.
"Royal family.. Caner?" He held his chin as he tilted his head on the side, acting curious and confused. "Are they Emperors or Empresses too?"

Jamie nodded. "Yes, from another neighboring country. But their alliance isn't trustworthy. They are a threat to the peace of the Vermillion Empire."
"Why did mama go back?" Klydeur asked back. "Did mama know about their attack?"
"Her majesty had layered a protective barrier around the palace. If ever there are other people trying to go in with evil intentions, she can feel it. If they are weak, it is very light. If they are strong, it is too sharp that the attacks can cast a damage to the caster as well." Jamie explained, but then she covered her mouth. "I doubt you'd understand it your highness."
Klydeur still smiled. "It's okay!"
I held my chin as I fell into deep thoughts. So Aureus decided to go back to her previous palace to face the Caner in which she thought she had successfully massacred... or did she? And the other Caner family who just survived barely came to seek for vengeance.
That barrier must have been a warning. The Caner must be so strong that they happen to damage the caster, which is Aureus herself.
In this case, did she return alone? Obviously not. She have a lot of knights and even sorcerers around the empire she rules.
And as to what I can remember from the glimpses of my past before, Aureus herself is the most successful Empress. Her father, the Emperor, died earlier than anyone expected.
But luckily, he already managed to pass the throne and there were no problems since Aureus herself is his only daughter. So she had no rivals against the throne.
At the early age of 16, she became an Empress. The youngest, wisest and strongest Empress that ever existed.
Sounds impossible thou.
That's what it was implied in the history books, but I doubt it. The Empress' background must be something else.
They never specified that the previous Emperor actually gave the throne to Aureus, but the crown belongs to his legitimate son, which is the missing-in-action of an Emperor.
I have no idea if what my memories showed me is the truth, or there is something else behind the Imperial family before the Empress alone ruled the empire.
So for now, I'm going to believe that Aureus is indeed an only daughter of the previous Emperor and the first independent Empress of the Empire.
Sounds too perfect, like it has many loopholes, but what can I do?
It even said that she met our father in this world at the age of 18. The other memories are vague but I'm certain that our father is indeed from a noble family.

Other than that, they are also married. Then they had us, and the Empress gave birth at the age of 20.
But that same day was also the day the Emperor vanished and our father left to make an alliance to—
My eyes widen as I realized one thing, the very reason why Aureus went in a rampage to massacre the Caner family.
"Goodnight, your highness."
Jamie kissed me on the forehead before leaving my room with the lights closed.
It was already 8 in the evening. Klydeur is already fast asleep an hour earlier. Yet here I am, still troubled about the past events.
Aureus, the Empress herself, massacred the Caner family as revenge as well.
Our father went to have an alliance with the royal family Caner, but they neglected him and had him executed even before he can step outside their palace. That same day, the Emperor vanished and Aureus seems to be so lost.
But because of giving birth which rendered her weak, she cannot do a thing. She despised the Caner family so much that she showed no mercy when she killed the representatives from the Caner Empire herself only after a day of rest from labor.
Those representatives are actually hired assasins.
She was so devastated, scared and even loathed those who dare go against her. She even despise those who can be a subtle threat and anyone who blocks her way are shredded into pieces.
Those silver eyes that stared piercingly towards her enemies, with one look and they know that they'll end up as a cold corpse on the floor.
Aureus wasn't just a simple, elegant, wise, youngest Empress. My mother of this world is just too wonderful! She can do magic, example of that is the teleportation.
But one of the best when it comes to fighting is the four main elements: Fire, Water, Wind and Earth.
She used wind to shred anyone into pieces. Fire to burn them to crisp. Water to drown them and Earth is not still used. Oh wait, I think even electricity is her favorite, especially since it is destructive and could be used for torture.
With my forehead creased, I still recalled someone that I saw in my glimpses too. There was this woman whose with our father that time and I have no idea about what happened to her.
I looked outside the window and recalled my very first encounter with Aureus. The Empress was casually sitting on the edge of the window, her long black hair waving in the wind and her silver eyes are glowing.
"I wish mama is here."
Blinking my eyes, I didn't even expect that I'd blurt that out. Like a real 5 year old kid longing to see his mother for almost 6 days.
But as soon as I blinked my eyes, a familiar silhouette appeared on the very same spot where I first saw her.
The long black hair that waved from the cold air outside the window. The moon above her head glowed, but her silver eyes glowed the most which made me stare back at her.
I feel like my tongue has been cut off.
"Your wish is now granted, isn't it?"
Her cold voice rang in my ears as if it was a melodic lullaby. I sat on the bed as I rubbed my eyes with the back of my palm. Looking up at her, I opened my mouth to ask. "M-Mama?"
She stood up and straightened her posture. "Yes?"
I felt something weird. My heart is beating fast, as if I missed someone and saw them again for a very long time. But then, I feel like this must have been a dream or an illusion, and so I asked again. "Are you really my mama?"
Aureus gave me a look as if I was ridiculously asking her a question which is already obvious to answer. "Depends if you still don't believe."
Wow.
Her answer is really giving me another reason to go in a rampage as well and hit her with a glass of milk! Or maybe the book which contains that family language she's been boasting about.
I went down on my bed and ran over to her to give her a light hit, when the blanket fell on the floor, which made me get tripped on it and lose balance.
All colors seems to fade in my face, but instead of falling flat on the floor, I fell on her arms.
Wait..
What?
I peeked above and saw her staring at me with slightly wide eyes. As if she's wondering why she caught me?
Or regretting why she even bothered to catch me in her arms.
She lifted me up before tucking me to bed. Tapping my hair using her hand, I closed my eyes and tried to sleep.
"Sleep well." Was the words I heard before I miraculously fell fast asleep.
