《Kidnapped (Book 1)》Interview

Robbins decided that it was time to pay Kyle a little visit. He was already processed and book in the county jail. She walked into the jail, hoping to get something out of the conversation with Kyle but knowing him, that could be very unlikely. It's not like she needed a confession out of him, there was too much evidence at this point that a jury could never find him not guilty.
With Kelly's testimony, Kyle would be locked away for life. It still angered her that she never noticed what was happening. How had she been played by Kyle for years? He seemed like a normal guy. Then again the term normal never really applies to anyone. If she had caught on to Kyle's games earlier maybe Matt wouldn't be dead. She shook her head, knowing she couldn't think that way or she would go crazy.
Kyle was brought into a conference room where inmates were taken to be questioned. Robbins walked into the room, not knowing what to expect. Inside, Kyle had an evil smirk on his face and was handcuffed at the wrists and ankles. He wore a blue jumpsuit and plain white gym shoes. You would think that he would be angry about getting caught and his future destroyed but he looked the opposite. For a man who would spend the rest of his life in jail and possible death sentence, he was calm. He was a police officer, he knew what prison was like and how he would be treated as a cop in a prison. He was a true psychopath if he wasn't scared of what was to come.
"Hello Christi, I was expecting you." He said, the grin never leaving his sadistic face.
"Call me Officer Robbins." She replied.
Robbins knew she had to stay professional, no matter what happened in the past with them. And no matter how much she wanted to punch him in the face and beat him senseless for killing Matt and for everything he did to those girls. As much as she despised the man sitting in front of her, she had to suppress all those feelings and do her job. One wrong move and Kyle could be free.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Officer Robbins." He exaggerated the officer part when he said that.
Robbins didn't show any emotion towards the man before her. She took a seat on the opposite side of the table from Kyle. His blue eyes followed her like a predator stalking its prey. This was different because this predator's claws were contained and the ability to hurt the prey was eliminated. She placed a recorder out on the table and hit play. She wanted all the evidence she could before going to trial.
"First question, your step-brother, Andrew, did you frame him with murder?" She asked.
She needed to get on the record of what Kyle did she that she could free Andrew. She one hundred percent believed that Kyle set him up, especially after this side of Kyle that was shown. A true psychopath at play. It's scared her to think that this started when Kyle was younger and how he had surpassed and hidden his true self for all these years. Kyle started to laugh, but Robbins wasn't sure if it was at her or at the question she asked.
"You would like to know that wouldn't you, even though it doesn't involve the case at all. I find that interesting, out of all the questions that's what you start with." He laughed again, shaking his head in disbelief.

"It does involve the case, it's about you, isn't it? And it involves an innocent man being locked again in jail." She replied.
"Innocent." Kyle snorted. Then he added, "That little twig ruined my life, he is not innocent. If he didn't go to jail that day, he most likely would have later in life. He appeared like a good boy but I knew deep down he was wanted to rebel. I was just saving everyone the trouble." Kyle said.
"Answer my question, did you frame Andrew?" She asked again, making her tone sound more serious this time.
"Yes, I did it. I'm proud of it too. I wouldn't take back what I did, hell I probably should have done it sooner." He paused before continuing on his rant.
"Quick, go get my brother out of jail since you have my confessing. I killed my step-mom because she was a bitch and I blamed it all on Andrew because there wasn't shit he could do about it. He was always an idiot. I'm sure jail has already damaged him enough so my work was still completed." He said proudly.
"Why did you start to kidnap girls?" Robbins asked.
"If you don't know but now, then you're an idiot too." He spoke, rolling his eyes.
"I have to hear it on the tape so answer the question, Kyle." She demanded, no longer wanting to be nice to him.
He sighed loudly and said, "It started off to get Marcus out of jail but then I realized that I wanted to do it. The way it felt to be in control, to have those girls beg me not to kill them. To have them do whatever I said and the fear, oh the fear in their eyes was the best part." He laughed, his eyes glowing with satisfaction.
"Looking back on my past, and knowing about Andrew, are you really surprised?" He added, which she wasn't surprised after knowing what Kyle did as a child who created a murder and got away with it for years.
"Are there any other girls that you have kidnapped and hidden somewhere else besides the ones in the basement of the cabin?" She asked sternly.
"Man, now wouldn't that have been a turn of events. Unfortunately, I didn't think that far ahead into my plan. Once I left that cabin, it was only about Kelly. Though now that you mention it, I do have a couple others that may pop up in the future." He grinned, probably thinking back to other people he had killed and hide the bodies.
"What do you mean? Who else have you killed?" Robbins asked quickly.
He didn't speak but just kept an evil smirk on his face that hadn't left his face most of the interview. To be able to read his mind who save Robbins so much trouble. What was he thinking? He clearly knew way more than he was leading on.
"Kyle, answer the question." She demanded, slamming her fists on the table.
"I would like a lawyer before answering any other questions." He replied, knowing how to play the system. He had answered her other questions without a lawyer, why one now?
"That's bullshit, Kyle. Why are you afraid of answering a question?" Robbins asked as she stood to her feet.
"I'm not afraid of anything anymore." He yelled as he jumped to his feet, causing Robbins to step back.
His furious look faded into the same villainous smirk on his face as he quietly sat back down in his chair looking as calm as ever. What was wrong with him? Robbins went to the door and told the guards to remove Kyle and take him back to his cell. She knew at this point he wasn't going to tell her anything else.

He was trying to play her, making her think the worst but she would find out the truth sooner or later. It wouldn't surprise Robbins if there were more bodies that Kyle had killed but how many were there and where exactly could these bodies be located? Then again, what if he was trying to trick her, lead her on a wild goose chase for another laugh before going to jail? There was no trusting Kyle, she would just have to investigate and try to get an answer out of him another time.
Before Robbins left, Kyle said, "Wait, Christi, you may think I'm a spiteful person but I'm no different from you. We are the same people. I'll be seeing you soon in the future." He said.
"Have fun rotting in prison." Robbins snarled, trying her best not to show just how much she hated him.
Robbins calmly walked out of the room, trying her best to not appear that Kyle had gotten to her. She didn't really get as many answers as she would have liked. What if Kyle had a partner and his sick games were continuing. Sure, there was Marcus and he was dead now but what if someone like Gary who seemed to be playing both sides was in on this more than Robbins expected? Her brain kept racking on what Kyle had said about more bodies popping up. Did that mean he killed more than what we found? This was a never-ending cycle of questions and fears of what Kyle actually did. Everybody that turned up now would have to be considered Kyle's work, especially after that comment he just made.
Robbins called the prison where Andrew was being held and explained the situation to the warden. He requested for her to fly out there with the evidence so that Andrew could be free. With the tape, clearing his name, she got on the first helicopter that was available to Tennessee. Her cell phone buzzed in her pocket as the helicopter ascended into the air.
"Hello?" She answered. She didn't recognize the number on her phone.
"Hello, Officer Robbins." A familiar man's voice said.
Robbins knew that it was Gary and it was pretty funny because she was just thinking about him and wondering if he would call again. She could get some answers from him since Kyle was of no use. Maybe now she could try and hunt down Gary. Two major catches would definitely booster her up in her career.
"Congrats on catching the bad guy today, Love. I have to say that I'm impressed, but poor Marcus, I guess you can't catch them all. Some just aren't fit to survive." Gary said.
"Yes, but we did catch Kyle, thanks to you." Robbins replied.
"No need to thank me. How's he doing anyway? I would visit him, but you know that wouldn't work out so well for me. I am wanted still, aren't I?" He laughed.
"You could always turn yourself in." Robbins suggested, ignoring his question.
"Ha! And give up the wonderful life I am living now, please don't make me laugh." He answered as more laughter filled the background.
"I guess you wouldn't make my life easier by turning yourself in. One question though, why did you turn Kyle in if you were working with him?" She questioned.
"If you must know, I hinted where Kyle's location was to you, and then I gave Kyle the place to stay at, and I warned him that you were coming. I gave him a fifty-fifty chance at being caught or not being caught. I gave you a fifty-fifty chance at catching him or not catching him. Everyone was treated equally, it was just who wanted what more. It appears that you wanted it more than him. If Kyle was as smart as he thinks he is, he would have had his suspicions about me and moved to somewhere else. He easily could have but maybe he didn't want to for a certain reason."
"Are you saying he wanted to be caught?" Robbins asked in curiosity.
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not but he could have easily moved to Europe or somewhere else out of the country where I would never know, but he didn't, and he got caught. I guess we will never know the answer to that."
"Are you working with him still? Do you know any plans he had?" She asked.
"Goodness no, he is an impulsive psychopath and he would end up getting me captured. But I'm guessing by your question that he may have someone else on his side. Maybe he isn't as stupid as I thought." Gary pondered.
"I'm not sure yet but I have to make sure everything is set in stone before the trial." She sighed.
"I will warn you that love makes people do crazy things and for people, like Kyle, that is very dangerous. You saw everything he did to get Kelly, you really think he won't have a plan after being caught? Just be careful is all I'm saying." He warned, which surprised Robbins since he was giving her advice.
"Well, I'm going to go. I can contact you but you can't contact me, so I'll talk to you later. I'm guessing if Kyle does have a plan, then I will end up talking to you again because I will know before you do. Kyle is a very interesting person to study and I can't wait to see what else he has in store. I'm writing a book on serial killers and kidnappers and I may even send you my first copy." He laughed.
"Are you writing about yourself in there?" Robbins asked, sort of angry that the conversation was ending.
He started to laugh and chuckled, "No Love, I can't analyze and study myself, duh! Fill free to write your own book over me if you want. I'll be sure to sign it for you." He joked and this time his laughs were much louder than before.
"I'll be watching the news for Kyle though, I'm going to see if prison changes him which I'm sure it will." He said.
"Wait, Gary-" Robbins protested.
"Goodbye Love, talk to you soon." He said hanging up the phone.
Robbins slammed her phone shut, wanting to keep talking to him. She knew running a trace on the phone was pointless, she had tried before and he has a disposable phone. Gary was a character that's for sure and it appeared that he liked teasing her by calling. It was as if he was dangling himself right in front of her but making it impossible for Robbins to get him.
Before she knew it, the helicopter was landing. Robbins went down to the prison and talked the case over with the warden who was very interested in Kyle's case and felt somewhat guilty that Andrew was wrongly convicted. The next place she wanted was the courthouse where the judge who sentenced Andrew heard the confession. Hours and hours passed before Andrew was finally released from prison.
Robbins waited outside of the prison, the warm Tennessee air filling her lungs. The sun was shining brightly, not a cloud in sight. Maybe this meant a fresh start for Andrew. He walked out of the prison, looking all around him as if he'd never seen the outside world before. He was wearing a worn out pair of blue jeans and a plain gray t-shirt. He had been locked up for years, missing being able to grow up in a normal situation. Instead, he had to grow up in a prison. He would definitely need professional help to move past this horrific time in his life.
"I don't know how to thank you again for this." He said smiling as he extended his hand to shake hers.
"You were punished for something you didn't do; it's my pleasure to help. I'm just sorry it took so long." She replied as the two of them got into a cab to go back to the helicopter.
Andrew decided he wanted to come home to Colorado, despite everything that happened to him. He needed some closer and that's where this mess started for him. Robbins understood why he wanted to come back but then part of her also wondered why. To bring up the death of his mother and to replay the day of his arrest seemed crazy to her. Then again, maybe he needed this in order to move on and start his life over.
When Robbins returned, she needed to interview Kelly and Brooke before the day was up. It had been a long, hard day for everyone but the sooner this was done, the sooner Kyle would be locked up in prison forever. Today had been very productive for her. She managed to put two criminals to rest, whether that was death or in jail, save two girls lives and finally, save a man who had a life sentence for something he didn't do, out of jail and back into the real world. He still could live the rest of his life and start over. These were the reasons why Robbins became a police officer and what convinced her that she made the right decision for her career.
