《Kumiai, Cookies & “Genki” Club》Chapter 38: The cooking club

After an invigorating meal at Kochi Yakisoba and a little organizational session with the support of Christopher’s support unit, it was time for Rina, Aya, and Sophie to scour the campus in search of Rina’s perfect club.
They will only have a few hours today to discover as many things as possible so let’s not waste any time.
“Do you know where the club is, Rina?”
“Um, I know it’s in the annex between the high school and the middle school. I’ve never been there before but we should be able to find it easily and if I follow my sense of smell, no problem, hehe.”
“It’s true that it’s reassuring to have the Rina-chan nose in this kind of situation.”
“Even my dog Sam doesn’t compete with me.”
She said with pride.
Aya closes her eyes and sighs.
“I’m not sure you should take that as a compliment…”
“Eh? Sorry Rina-chan, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“I take it as a compliment, haha. No worries Sophie.”
After a good five minutes of walking, the girls arrive in the annex lobby.
Rina looks around in all directions.
“It’s big. I think this is the first time I’ve been in this building through the main entrance.”
“Same for me, last year we always went through the outside walkway connected to the high school.”
“I’ll serve as our guide then, I’m used to it, the tea ceremony club is also in this building.”
“We’re counting on you”
“Let’s take the stairs, the club rooms are between the first and third floor.”
Arrived on the second floor…
*Sniff sniff*
“No, no way it’s on this landing.”
“Look, there’s a floor plan.”
…
“Um, there are a few clubs present on Christopher-kun’s list those are the next ones to visit after the kitchen one.”

“Next floor then.”
…
*Sniff sniff*
“Here though…”
“Yes, even I can smell good.”
“I can even tell you it’s a beef-based sauce dish.”
“Wanna bet?”
“Hehe, Aya, you dare to bet on the reliability of my elite sense of smell?”
“Why not.”
“Okay, so it’ll be a triple scoop ice cream at Tom’s Ice Cream at Indigo Beach.”
“Sounds good.”
“I’ll take berry, yogurt, and cookie flavor for the scoops, mark my words.”
“Rina-chan, Aya-chan, look at the floor plan. The cooking club is indeed on this floor. It’s in room B9.”
“B9?”
“Wait but this is the room for the cooking classes.”
Sophie looks at Aya and Rina.
“That kind of makes sense, doesn’t it?”
“I don’t know why, but I thought they had a room all to themselves with a kitchen as you see on the TV sets of some shows.”
“So now we know where to go, we won’t be lost.”
“Let’s go.”
In front of room B9, a pretty front worthy of a starred restaurant.
“Les Délices du Monde, not bad”
“Let’s go in, they may have already started the first event.”
The sliding door opens and behind it, a plethora of students somewhat scattered at different workshops in the kitchen room.
And among them…
“Fuuki-chan-san!”
Everyone suddenly turns around.
“Rina-chan, shhh. Not so loud.”
Classmate Rina approaches them.
“Shimizu-san.”
“As promised, I came for those famous cookies.”
“I hope the club and its amateur restaurant, Les Délices du Monde, will delight your taste buds.”
“I hope so too.”
“On the other hand Shimizu-san, just call me Fuuki, please. Fuuki-chan-san is a bit awkward…”
“Okay-dokey Fuuki, you can also call me Rina.”

“Great Rina. What about your friends?”
“Sakai Aya, call me Aya.”
“Sophie L. White, please call me by my first name too.”
“Aya, Sophie, welcome to you too.”
“Before anything Fuuki, I have a question for you.”
“Tell me.”
“What’s that you’ve prepared for lunch with the club?”
“Ah, are you still smelling that good smell? Well, we made a great beef bourguignon, it was really good, it was a huge success.”
“AH! You owe me scoops of ice cream, Aya, you’re the one who’s treating tonight.”
“Note for later, never bet on Rina’s sense of smell.”

Re: Dragonize
After an unexpected turn of events, Drew must now survive in a world full of challenges with life-or-death stakes. Gone are the days when the biggest problems to face were awkward small-talk at physics department luncheons or mountains of lab work; this former physicist is now adrift in an unfamiliar land without any equipment. Now, Drew's only tool (if it can be called that) is a System, which provides constant reminders of all of the things that are still out of reach for a low-level being who's just arrived in a new world. Luckily, Drew has one powerful asset when taking on the challenges of this new world: surviving violent conflict is a lot easier when you have the power of a dragon at your disposal. Still, Drew has always considered violence a last resort. Why turn to fists (or claws) when a bit of quiet consideration might expose a better path forward? Maybe a life of quiet contemplation is still within reach for this former academic researcher. ...Or maybe not. It probably won't be a life of bloodless pacifism. Additional information for those who wish to calibrate their expectations (I'm adding this based on a few comments I received from readers who feel that the story is not what they expected from a dragon-themed story): Re: Dragonize is not a power fantasy -- or at least, it's not intended to be one. Re: Dragonize is a progression fantasy starting with a protagonist who must start at the bottom (or close to it), and work gradually upwards, making incremental progress with plenty of setbacks along the way. The protagonist, as someone coming from the world of academia, tends to be cautious, methodical, and contemplative. As such, expect this story to contain more than a few digressions as the main character takes the time to pontificate on a variety of topics ranging from Newtonian physics and horology to the nature of existence and the ethical dilemmas associated with being an obligate carnivore.

Zeke Herald, Goblin Slayer
Zeke wakes up inside a small cavemouth, no memories or direction, just the will to live. Also, he's smack dab in the middle of a forest that's teeming with ugly little goblins. The only good goblin is one with a sword sticking out of it, as my father used to say. I tried to incorperate LitRPG elements. I'm only recently introduced to the genre, but I find it really fasinating! So intrigued I even started writing a little story expressing my joy of all things numerical! This story has a focus on hardwork and deliberate progression, no magical deus ex machinas here sorry.
