《Unstable (L x Reader)》Chapter Seven: Flashbacks

I woke up in my clothes from yesterday and on the couch, alone. And all I had covering me was a blanket. I rubbed my eyes and looked around. I remembered what happened yesterday and everything and when I looked back into the kitchen area I saw the task force there. I kept quiet and snuck back to my bedroom to change. I was nearly spotted by Matsuda but thank god I made it without being spotted. But when I exited my room I was not so lucky. When I closed my door the whole task force had their faces on me. That just stopped me from walking into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. As I was eating I could hear all these men's awful whispering voices. I mean these guys are part time undercover cops right? Shouldn't they have good whisper voices. Well I guess things have changed and they just don't have that ability anymore. But as I was bending down to grab some cereal I could overhear them as they all were talking about me, and I could tell Mr. Yagami started this conversation. I mean he did know the most about me. For god sake he was in charge of my file and he took me to his house yesterday to help with his eldest son's homework for college. And now that I said that in my mind that just makes Light sound pathetic. But once I finished eating I turned and looked towards all of them and I grabbed a chair and sat at their table. I looked at each and every one of their faces. Funny enough Light was not at the table this morning so I couldn't bother him about his shinigami. But then as I felt all their faces staring at me I said, "You know... if you want to know something you could just ask me." I could hear them wiping sweat off their faces and then Matsuda asked something. "So how exactly did you get into the mental hospital." "I lashed out at my parents. And some other people. Plus my neighbors heard me talking to people and they thought I was crazy." Then Matsuda asked a follow up question. "How would that make it valid to keep you there for over ten years?" "I lashed out again. So then they decided after the mess I made they had to make me more "tidy" as some liked to call it." Then I left. Brushing shoulders with Mr. Yagami. I sat back down at the couch and found L sitting by the monitors again. I stood behind him and watched as he worked. "What are you looking for?" "I'm trying to figure out who is sending these messages to Sakura TV." "Well this person is clearly more feminine, the voice is higher, though it is scrambled, you can still tell it's a higher voice. Plus the scrambled sound sounds much better to me in my opinion and a girl would think the same thing when picking what scrambler to use." "Huh, I never thought about it that way." "Your welcome." "How did your study date go yesterday?" "Normal." "Did Light act suspicious?" "Why are you asking? Do you think he might be Kira somehow?" "Yes. I have suspected him for a while now." "Well he acted very cautious, especially around his desk, but that's it." That's where that conversation ended. And as the time of day flowed through sooner or later Light came through the door with his school stuff asking how the case was going. L answered him, but Light's eyes wandered towards me. He wrote something down really quick and then handed me something. I opened the letter and it said he found my dad. I could tell he was expecting me to be all excited but when I remembered back to a long time ago, some "fond" memories, I did not care. So I handed him the paper back looking for a snack to have since I was hungry. Light came towards me in the kitchen and whispered in my ear, "Do you not care that I found your dad?" "I doubt you did, did your shinigami help you out?" "How did you figure that out?" "Im deadly smart. That's how." I kept looking for more food but then Light closed the fridge with his hand which made a slight noise, but no one noticed. "What's your deal?" "I hate my dad." "What about your mom?" "She's dead." "How do you know?" "I remember her lifespan really well. She had a set date from my dad. She died while I was locked up. And when she did die I remembered. It was a very good day for me. I scared plenty of people that day."

It was several years ago, it was nearly a year after I entered the hospital. I was still in a low security cell. But I did have to be watched for a while. My nurse followed me everywhere. She was nice to me and sometimes I would feel bad for her since I wasn't always nice to her back. But that day my mom died my demeanor was different and she figured it out.
"Why so happy (name)? Is there some favorite food of yours that's in the cafeteria today?" she asked.
"No." I said plainly.
"Then why so happy? It's not the day you get released, unless you're planning on escaping." she asked. She sort of added a bit of a tone to try and sound like she was being funny.
"My mom is dead." I answered.
"You don't know that. Also why say such a thing about her?" Her voice began to shake.
"Because she sent me here and she tried to hit me with a vase." I said, with the same monotone voice.
This scared my nurse and it made my day worth living. And as I walked into the cafeteria with my nurse trailing behind me I heard some of the most gossipy boys I have ever met talking about me. Someone must have heard me talking to my nurse and then told everyone. They were saying how I was insane and knew my mom died even though I had received no announcement about it. I called over my nurse right after and I told her to talk to the "warden" as I liked to call them and ask them if there was a random woman that went by the name Kiki or Tsugama was dead. She ran off and I could see her fingers crossed hoping it was not true. As I finished grabbing my food and I sat down at a table, alone, she came back. She told me what I wanted to hear. My mom really was dead. Then I was hit with the most deadly of combos of emotions. Happiness and sadness. I was laughing and balling. The nurse approached me and tried to comfort me but I slipped from her grip and I ran off. I nearly escaped that day and it earned me a week's worth of wearing a straight jacket as punishment.
After telling Light something he honestly really didn't need to know he went back to work with the rest of the task force. I just sort of stood by and waited to see if anyone needed questions answered. And luckily my day was pretty lax. No one asked me anything. And once dinner rolled around, me and L sat at a table. Then Watari walked in with a chocolate cake on a platter. "You said chocolate cake was your favorite right?" "Yes, thank you." "Is there something troubling you?" "No, just something is odd. Light wants to know an awful lot about me. It's weird, we just met." "Light has never made sense to me. I mean I do suspect him of being Kira so I suggest you to not trust him." "I'll take your word for it. You seem to be thinking a lot about something... what's on your mind?" "You." "Oh how sweet. What are you wondering?" "Well first, can I just assume your dad just does not exist and your mom is not alright?" "Just assume my parents are both dead if that helps, I know they are never coming back, my mom is for sure dead. What else?" "I just want to know your story."

When I was little I was ostracized since I looked different and acted differently. It was like a double whammy for bullies and judge kids. And at school, with my mental stability, if a kid pissed me off they were better off dead. That's how I never ended up in school. I beat up a kid. I broke a bone and wrecked the carpet. That earned the first thing on my record. It didn't get me in jail but the next one would land me in a jail like facility. That's how I ended up there. I remember the moment like if it just happened a few days ago. It was a normal day, the afternoon was normal too, but the tension grew thick at night. I was a young and stupid 10 year old. I was using the wrong eye that night. I saw that my mom now had a set day she was doing to die, set by my dad probably. I called it out towards her and she got mad, like flaming mad. She screamed at me and said something along the lines of, "You stupid child! I don't want to know the day I die! I'm going to punish you with a spanking!" I screamed and cried since I did not want a spanking and that's when my lashing started. I threw the coffee table towards my mom to protect me. It bruised her shin and caused her some pain. She threw the table too and broke a leg... a table leg... she did not break my leg. She started chasing me around the house. My father was stupid and just watched the scene unfold. He was enjoying it actually. He thought it was fun. I then did something that struck my mom off, she was beyond fuming. I remember it, the warm feeling, it was smooth, and a lovely crimson color. I had cut myself over her favorite carpet and I let it stain. And since she was just boiling over at this point she then grabbed our favorite vase and was ready to throw it at my head. She said that it would keep me still so she could punish me. At that time my dad began to call the cops. Then I grabbed a shard of glass since my mom missed and I threatened to cut myself again, in a more dangerous spot. She slapped the glass out of my hand and threw it back at me. It nearly missed me, touching my cheek. I then went behind my mom and pushed her knees where she would fall into the glass. But that's when the cops arrived, they were in the area and that's when I met Lights dad for the first time. He saw me and ran right up to me and grabbed me. He had very strong arms. I was kicking and screaming, I think I even bit Mr. Yagami. He then took me to his car and had one of his colleges to hold me so he could grab his kid cuffs and then he cuffed me and sat me down in the car. I was taken to the station. They questioned me a bit, not for very long and then had papers signed and things processed. They sent them away. Early that very next morning, at maybe 4 or 5 o'clock AM I was taken from the holding cell I was in and taken to a mental hospital. They left me in the cuffs though. Then I arrived and I was evaluated, and that took me forever. Then they walked me down a hall and handed me a change of clothes and then I slept the rest of the afternoon in my new home. I remember my original set date of release was around my birthday, not sure how many years away. But it was a while. They really had to re-educate me here, since I was kicked out of school. I even remember walking through the halls and any given staff member or patient allowed to roam through the halls would say something like "There's the killed 10 year old." Though I grew up past ten there, that was just my name. But sometimes it would be fun getting that certain attention, and the fear too. I enjoyed scaring people. But one day I messed up my chances of getting out on time. I was in the cafeteria, I didn't need supervision by a nurse anymore, though I visited frequently since I took quite a few drugs, but not the point. I was eating food and then I was approached by some kids. They sat at my table. "Hey I heard you're the one really violent patient. I heard you broke a kids skull when you were 9." "That's not true." "Well I heard that you stabbed a kid with scissors." "That's also not true. Where do you even hear these dirty lies?" "Our nurses." "Well tell them to shut it. I just slammed their heads on the table and I might have accidentally stepped on their arm. They bled out a lot." "I feel like that's worse than a stabbing incident. But I guess that shows how insane you are." "I'm not insane, I have anger issues. Now buzz off before you get the same fate." "OooOoh! A threat! You're not allowed threats here." "Like I care, I've been here for quite a while, I'm familiar with the rules." Then the three kids became five kid and his friends came closer and closer to me. It was making me nervous. Anxious. And I was already mad so the intense feeling and urges were coming back. I was very familiar with the feeling by now. And for some reason the nurses were off on break right at this very moment. So I slipped my hand down to my plate and grabbed it and a plastic knife and was ready to use it. They came closer and I could sense they were thinking of saying, "Look, the killer ten year old, is ready to strike." Then the boys from the other side of the cafeteria came at me. I threw my glass plate straight at a kid's forehead and it knocked them out. The knife stayed close to my side. I tripped a kid with my feet and their head hit the table, knocking them out too. There were three kids left. The weaker one came at me thinking he could do something but when his hand came at me to punch me I simply dodged it and bit his arm. Then the leader looking one jumped towards me so I used the knife and then the other ran off to get guards. The guards rushed in and grabbed me. They held me tight. I could not escape. I was squirming and trying to escape but all they did was hold on tighter. I even heard one of them say to the other, "I figured she was going to do something sooner or later." They walked me farther and farther and into the medical room. They sat me down on the bed and then a doctor quickly came in. The doctor asked me a few questions and the guards that were in there were ready to add force if I answered the doctors questions with false answers. As the doctor wrote stuff down he saw through me more and more and learned more and more along the way. Then as the doctor relayed the information onto the guards they looked at me and then quickly picked me up by my two arms again. I started getting nervous. I started kicking and crying. It was making me nervous and I had no idea where I was going and I wanted to know. Then they took me all the way back to the high security cells. They opened the door and then the last thing I remember was being in a dark room, being given an injection through my thigh and then waking up on the cushy floor of the padded cell that became my home.

Along with their newest member Morana, what could possibly go wrong? This 'Novella' -ha Novel* will follow the stories of a few main characters centering around a coherent plot. There will also be some interludes surrounding supporting characters. I'm using Royal Road to publish my first drafts, like throwing paint 'or shit' at a canvas to see what sticks. The writing quality will be the main focus in draft two (You've been warned), and I'm using the first draft mainly as a loose outline for the plot. I will also try and 'show, not tell' in draft two. This is my first attempt at a novel! Any help or advice is much appreciated! If you want to support me! Please follow, rate and comment, as this really helps me understand what to focus on in draft two. Thank you.
