《Always (Steve Harrington X Reader)》Chapter 006

We walk up to the junkyard and Steve nods, "Oh yeah. Yeah, this will do. This will do just fine," He starts walking towards the broken down bus dropping some meat as he walks, "Good call, dude," He says to Dustin, earning a huge signature smile from the boy.
We dump our buckets out in the middle of the yard. When Lucas comes riding up with a girl on the back of his bike, "I said medium-well!" He smiles and waves and she just stands there.
"Who's that?" I ask Dustin, not looking away from the girl.
He smiles at her and Steve and I both realize... It's the girl Dustin was talking about.
Dustin pulls Lucas away to talk and Steve, the girl, and I get to work.
I walk up beside her and stick my hand out, "Y/N."
She shakes it and smiles softly, "Max."
We walk back over to Steve and start moving the sheets of metal to put on the bus as a shield from the Demogorgans.
Steve mumbles something about the boys not helping and walks up behind them and bangs a chair against the car they were squatting behind.
"Hey! Dickheads! How come the only ones helping me out are Y/N and this random girl? We lose light on 40 minutes. Let's go." Steve starts walking off and the boys just stand there, "Let's go, I said!"
"All right, asshole! God," Lucas groans
We get back to work. Steve pours gasoline from the pile of meat to the front of the bus. Max and I put a ladder in the bus so we can climb through the emergency escape at the top. Lucas and Dustin finish covering the bus in armour and the five of us climb inside.

Lucas goes to the top with his binoculars as a lookout and we sit in silence until dark when Max speaks up, "So you fought one of these things before?"
Steve nods and flicks his lighter shut.
"And you're, like, totally, 100% sure it wasn't a bear?" She asks skeptically.
"Shit. Don't be an idiot. Okay? It wasn't a bear," Dustin says in a rude tone, "Why are you even here if you don't believe us? Just go home."
"Geesh. Someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?" Max scoffs climbing up the ladder.
Dustin paces the bus and Steve nods, "That's good. Just show her you don't care."
Dustin rolls his eyes, "I don't," Steve winks and Dustin sighs, "Why are you winking, Steve? Stop."
Steve puts his hands up in defense and goes back to flicking his lighter.
A growl sounds out throughoit the junkyard and Steve, Dustin, and I jump up to look through the fence we put in one of the windows of the bus.
"You see him?" Dustin questions.
"No," Steve and I say in unison.
I stand up, "Lucas, what's going on?"
"Hold on!" Lucas yells down at us, "I've got eyes! Ten o'clock!
T-Ten o'clock!"
I look back out the window and see it, "There," I point, showing the other two.
"What's he doing?" Dustin asks.
"I don't know," Steve answers.
The Mini-Demogorgan makes a low chittering noise that gives me goosebumps because it reminds me of my time in the Upside Down. I turn around and slide down the side of the bus and bring my knees up to my chest.
"He's not taking the bait. Why is he not taking the bait?" Steve mutters.
"Maybe he's not hungry." Dustin offers.

"Maybe he's sick of cow," Steve sighs.
Steve steps away from the window and looks down at me before going to get his bat.
"Steve? Steve, what are you doing?" I ask frantically, standing up, "Steve?"
He turns around and throws the lighter to Dustin, "Just get ready," What? No! He'll die if he goes out there!
"No, no, no. Steve you can't go out there," I cry, grabbing his hand.
He pulls me into a hug and kisses my cheek, "I have to."
I nod, "Don't you dare die, Steve Harrington."
He steps out of the bus and Dustin closes the doors. Before join me at the window to watch.
Steve walks towards where we saw the Demogorgan. He whistles, "Come on, buddy."
Max climbs down the ladder hastily, "What's he doing?"
"Expanding the menu," Dustin murmurs.
Max comes up to look through the window with us as Steve gets closer to he meat pile.
"Come on, buddy," I hear faintly, "Human tastes better than cat, I promise,"
Max shakes her head, "He's insane."
"He's awesome," Dustin grins.
Steve swings his bat a few times to warm his arm up. Him and the Demogorgan face each other and my heart starts beating out of my chest.
"Steve, watch out!" Lucas screams from his post. Watch out?
I look around and spot a few more Demogorgans slowly crawling up towards Steve.
"A little busy here!" Steve yells back.
"Three o'clock! Three o'clock!"
Steve turns his head and sees them. Dustin runs to the door and opens it, "Steve! Abort! Abort!"
Lucas climbs down and we all yell for Steve to come back as he fights the monsters.
Steve runs to the bus as fast as he can and shuts the door right on time, leaving the Demogorgans out and clawing on it.
"Are they rabid or something?!" Max asks.
Steve takes of part of the metal from the wall and puts it against the door, using his feet to keep it shut.
"They can't get in! They can't!" Lucas squeals.
A part of the side comes loose and a claw enters and scratches Steve's hand. The kids and I move to the back of the bus and Steve hits the arm with his bat.
Dustin tries to get someone to answer over his walkie, "Is anyone there?! Mike?! Will?! God! Anyone?!" Something bangs on the wall next to us and we all jump back and scream, "We're at the old junkyard, and we are going to die!"
Steve continues fighting the Demogorgans at the front and a Demogorgan appears at the emergency exit, looking straight at Max it growls and she screams. I push her behind me and Steve pushes us all back.
"You want some?! Come get this!" The Demogorgans face opens up and Steve goes to hit it. The monster stops growling and looks away. It jumps off of the bus. They all leave and we all look around in confusion.
I look down at Max and Lucas's intertwined hands and put my hand on Dustin's shoulder.
They pull away and Steve and I go to the door. He opens it and looks out. The rest of us climb out and Lucas gulps, "What happened?"
"I don't know," I answer shakily.
"Steve scared 'em off?" Dustin offers.
Steve shakes his head,
"No. No way. They're going somewhere."

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
