《Iridescent (E. Cullen)》Chapter Twelve

Zenaida stands at her locker as she swaps out her government textbook for her English books. That's an annoying part of high school, the sheer number of books that they have to somehow manage through the day. The weight of them doesn't bother her, it's just stupid to carry them around when there are laptops and the internet around. They could just put digital copies up and that would clear up a lot of space and energy. It's no wonder high school kids are grumpy when they have to carry around dozens of books all the time. Someone stops at her side causing her to glance up from her books as she slides them into her bag, she finds Mike Newton lingering at her side. That's surprising. She assumes he isn't actually here to talk to her but waiting on someone else close by. She's wrong though.
"So," Mike starts, looking at the floor and scuffing his shoes. He's nervous about talking to her. She supposes that explains why he has waited this long to talk to her, since he has yet to since her return. "Jessica asked me to the spring dance." Zenaida frowns as she closes her locker, and turns to face him, pulling her bag onto her back.
"That's great" She offers, but she sounds unsure if it is great, considering he looks like a wounded puppy and doesn't exactly sound happy about it. "You'll have a lot of fun with Jessica." She adds, trying to sound more encouraging about it.
"Well..." He continues but seems unhappy with her response to the statement. "I told her I had to think about it."
"Why would you do that?" She argues as she adjusts her bag strap on her arm, untwisting it. Mike looks down, his face turning bright red. She suddenly has a bad feeling about where this conversation is going.

"I was wondering if... well, if you might be planning to ask me." He admits and she lets out a breath. There it is. The kicker.
"Mike, this is the first time you've spoken to me since I came back" She points out. He shrugs a little. She lets out another breath and shifts on her feet. "I think you should tell her yes" She offers. Whilst it is sweet, in a way, she just has no interest in him. He's not her type.
"Did you already ask someone?"
"Yeah, I already have a date" She lies and shrugs a little.
"Who?" He asks her.
"Emmett" She answers. Mike looks down the hall at where Emmett is leaning against his locker. Mike nods a little and turns back to Zenaida. "Ask Jessica...you'd be really cute together" Mike nods again and looks behind him and down the hall where Jessica is watching them, she smiles and waves at Mike who waves back, a smile creeping onto his face.
"Thanks, Zen," He tells her. "You know...Lauren was totally wrong about you...you're not mean at all"
"Wow," She comments. "She says I'm mean?" He shrugs.
"She's just jealous you're hotter than her" Mike offers with a wink, she smirks and shakes her head as he walks away. She turns and heads in the opposite direction, towards her English class. Emmett leans up from his locker as she reaches his location.
"He's not wrong" Emmett offers, she gives him a look. He looks entirely too smug about what just transpired between her and Mike. So he heard her telling Mike that she already has a date with him. She flicks her hair over her shoulder as she passes him.
"Don't look so smug" She scolds, he smirks though and moves to walk at her side. "I'm not going to the dance at all..." She looks at him. "I was using you as an excuse, so I didn't have to say yes to that Labrador"

"Why would it be so bad if you went with me?" He asks her. She stops and looks at him. She lets out a breath and steps closer to him, searching his eyes.
"Do you know what the worst thing about being a telepath is?" She asks him. He frowns a little, unsure of why this conversation has changed. He shakes his head. Edward doesn't really talk to him about the downside of his powers. But he can imagine. Hearing everything from everyone all the time must be exhausting. Invasive and overwhelming at times. "Knowing everyone's deepest, darkest secrets, even if you don't want to" She admits and then pushes herself up onto her tiptoes to whisper in his ear. "Like...I don't know, say...being a vampire" He pulls back from her sharply and she gives him a look, before she shrugs a little and walks away from him. He is too shocked and surprised to do anything. So he just stands there, staring at where she stood. She's been here a month and said nothing. She has to have known from the start. She implied it. She implied that she's known about him and his siblings and what they are from the moment she saw them. He's not sure what to do with that. He's not sure how to process it. He's been talking to her with the belief that she was unaware of who and what he is. That she simply saw him as human. He's not sure how this changes things. He is still attracted to her, she's insanely hot, but it might change the way he talks with her. And he's listened to Rosalie warning and warning and warning Edward about his relationship with Bella and what would happen if she were to find out that he's a vampire, that the whole family are vampires. The risk it would put on them all. Emmett can't even hide this from them, not with Edward's mind-reading. With how his family have been with Edward and Bella, and what might come and what might happen, they are going to make Emmett give Zenaida up before they've progressed any further. They are going to make him back off. He's not sure he can do that.

White Mystic Fox In A Radical World
Under the cloak of midnight, behind the faint creaking sounds of metal bars, staring into the vast beautiful garden of twinkling stars and the gentle, lovely blue moon as its host, was the only fox girl living in the desolate mountain ranges of Maryland with an unknown background. The gleaming reflection of those flickering flowers in her meekly eyes, as well as her blossoming countenance of hardships, demonstrate both her innocence and independence, which has never been tainted by the outside world. A lovely flower eventually touched after thousands of years of living in peace, some bad elements plucked that flower from its natural habitat. The white fox girl never knows what's good and bad, letting them cage her effortlessly without minding their evil sneers because of her over-the-clouds excitement. Finally, the white fox girl realizes she has been treated as nothing more than a prey item ready to be devoured. She's staring at the night skies for a long time and slowly closes her eyes once she gets that divine premonition from somewhere else. It was soothing in the mind. Her lovely smile showed acceptance with tears flowing through her pinkish cheeks, and her consciousness began fading away. Before her senses faded, that glowing angel descended, knelt in front of her, and wiped away her tears. She doesn't know how to express her gratitude to the heavens above for blessing her with a fulfilling and peaceful life. Even if it was a mere single moment, that gratitude and that smile of hers were the happiest things she could ever express. Time has passed, and the sun has risen from its slumber. The soul of the thousand-year-old white fox girl finally ascended to heaven, leaving her lifeless, cold body behind, leaning against rusted metal poles. It was the most peaceful death everyone wished for. Painless and no regrets. The men in charge of the front didn't notice anything out of the ordinary going on behind them. Well... In common perspective and also in reality, a caged dead fox girl at the back of a horse-drawn carriage is no less than a funeral procession. Book found also on wattpad and webnovel.
