《Klaus's Pet》Chapter 33

Klaus's POV:
Lorelei comes back today.
We had spent the past few days together side by side as I helped her come to terms with what had happened.
She then spent the next two weeks in Georgia helping the pack and now she's coming back home.
At first she was heartbroken and then she was furious at me for what I had done but in the end she understood.
She learned that what I had told her was true.
I let her be when she'd told me her plan and fled. She needed time and space.
I check the time.
She should've been here by now,
I grab my jacket and head out into the street.
Lorelei's POV:
I stand inches from the man's face and jerk his head to the side. I'm about to sink my teeth into the man's neck when someone grabs me and yanks me off.
I turn around and Nik is there.
"I thought we'd discussed this." He says in a low voice
"No. You discussed this." I say and down the shot on the table
I set the glass back down and turn around, not looking at him as I stand up and start to head towards the door.
He grabs my arm and I stop.
"Lorelei-" He begins
I turn around to face him.
"Let me go right now." I say through gritted teeth
He doesn't move and his grip doesn't waver.
"Nik I swear to God I will make a scene." I warn
"You don't want to do that love."
"Then let. Me. Go." I hiss
He releases me and I walk out of the bar into the street.
It's hot out tonight and the sweat sticks to my skin. I take a deep breath to try and calm myself.

Klaus's POV:
I open the door and walk out of the bar.
"Lorelei." I say
She exhales loudly, frustrated and turns around.
"Nik I was hungry and there was nobody around." She says
"You still tried to feed on a man around humans."
She rolls her eyes.
"It's not that big of a deal."
"Not that big of a deal? Lorelei when you decided that you were going to be careful while feeding, this is not what we talked about!"
"Why can't you just let this go?" She demands
"Because you're out there trying to feed in front of humans." I say
"So just compel all the people and forget about it. You don't seem to have a problem compelling people to get what you want. How is this any different?" She snaps
"I can't just compel all of New Orleans because you decide you want to be careless." I say, voice rising
"Nik I'm not in the mood for a lecture."
"Too bad. You're going to listen whether you like it or not."
She crosses her arms and glares at me but she doesn't speak.
"I taught you to be careful. Listen to the heartbeat to know when to stop and to do it in private. Marcel created a deal with the humans a long time ago and it has served us well. Tourists only and the humans of New Orleans who know about us would leave us be."
"It didn't matter back then when I was feeding before." She says
"Because you weren't feeding on innocent people! You were dead set against in from the beginning. Now all of a sudden you changed and I don't mind it but you need to be cautious!" I say

She doesn't speak. I see tears in her eyes and I can't quite determine what she's thinking.
I hold out my hand.
"Where are we going?" She demands
"Home."
"No!"
"Lorelei you've had an exhausting past few weeks and you need sleep. Now let's go."
Fed up, I grab her and we speed off. I don't release her until we are standing in the bedroom.
"Seriously?" She demands
"Get in bed and go to sleep love. We can talk more about this tomorrow."
She stares at me for a long moment.
I don't move or change my expression.
Realizing I am not backing down, she climbs into bed.
I give her a kiss and head into the study to paint.
A few hours later I walk back into the bedroom.
The light is on.
Damn it Lorelei.
I take a deep breath and walk into the bedroom. She's lying down, eyes open and she looks frustrated.
"I thought you'd be asleep." I say
She sighs
"What is it?"
"I can't sleep."
"Do you want help?"
She sits up and looks at me. She thinks for a long moment and nods. I walk over and hold her face in my hand.
"Sleep." I say compelling her
Her eyes shut and I lie her down and readjust the covers, tucking her in.

Dominion Expansion (a 4X LitRPG)
Clay is one of the world's top players of 4X games, a genre where the goal is to eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. He's also one of the only players in the world to so stubbornly stick to the one city strategy, a favorite tactic of his that involves only ever using a single city or planet depending on the game's setting. All that matters to him is winning with his favorite strategy, but earning the respect of his fellow players for taking a sub-optimal strategy to its highest level has always been a nice bonus. And now it is because of his skill and entertaining determination that he has been chosen to represent a higher realm in a strategy game where the fate of Earth and dozens of other worlds are at stake. To the victor goes the spoils, and the spoils include entire worlds and billions of lives. That's how he ends up representing the ascended realm of Hell in a grand "game" between an entire pantheon of godly beings and other higher powers. But while it may just be a game to those overseeing it, it is a genuine war for survival to those participating in it where billions of real lives will go to the victor of whoever wins, and many will die before the game is over. Quick Author's Notes: System inspired by Civilization, Endless Legend, Stellaris, and Crusader Kings 2. Combat mechanics inspired by the Total War series. Slow-paced with many long-term plans. Protagonist has a personality heavily inspired by Ron Swanson. Know who that is and love him? You should like Clay. Know who Ron Swanson is and hate him? You'll probably hate Clay. Planning on writing every single day (turn). Days with important things happening will have the system/game mechanics be the priority of the chapter. Days where there isn't really anything important happening will be more slice-of-life and focused on character interactions. Designed a dice-based randomized map generator to create the world as the story goes on, so I don't even know myself exactly what's going to happen as a lot is dependent on world generation. Tech tree with hundreds of technologies already designed. There is a "harem," but it's not the main focus, the girls won't be cardboard cutouts, and I'm not going to completely forget about any previous women in the relationship whenever a new one comes along. One last thing. The "game" starts off with primitive technology level. The current plan is for the "endgame" tech level to be equivilent to WW2-era technology. After that and war just gets boring until you end up in space. Cover is temporary and made from royalty-free stock images while waiting for the real cover's commission to finish.

Who Fixes Books Anyway?
On the pretense of a raise, the relatively new employee Pernie is called in to talk with her superiors. NOTE: This is a short story written for a class I took recently. As a result of deadlines, it does not possess the quality (or length) that I would like and is rather thrunkated. Perhaps sometime far in the furture I'll fix it up. For now, I have much more important things to work on, such as my other fiction.
