《You Saw Right Through Me》The Final Trial

"Alright, now onto the real reason this trial was requested." Monokuma stated. The determined aura in the room was now nonexistent, and replaced with despair. Normally, you would be there to lift everyone's spirits, but right now, even Kaede felt defeated. "As much as I love the despair right now, this is getting kinda booorrriinngg." Monokuma slurred.
Kaede shook her head. "We can't let despair take over us! Y/N brought us all back for us to work together, so that's what we'll do!" Everyone looked up and nodded, a hint of determination now present in their eyes. "Right! Y/N's death won't go in vain!" Tenko stated.
"Now, Shuichi. You're the one who requested this trial. When you requested this trial, you were unaware of Y/N's death." Monokuma recalled. "So why did you call for this trial?" Shuichi's eyebrows furrowed. "To retry a past case." Tsumugi tilted her head. "Which one?"
"Rantaro's." Everyone looked at the green-haired boy. "H-huh? Why mine?" Rantaro wondered. "Well, I- or... mainly Y/N- had found evidence that proved... that our answer was wrong." The room fell silent. "You're saying... Monokuma was wrong?!" Kiibo asked. Monokuma pulled out a detonator. However, he froze once he saw an all too familiar figure come through the floor.
"U-uh, fine! If you think you can end this killing game for trying to point out a failure of mine, so be it!" A wave of confusion came throughout the room. Monokuma had suddenly agreed to the retrial of Rantaro Amami.
"Alright, so from what I could tell, none of the previously deceased recall anything that happened after their death. They only have the memories they had when they died." Shuichi pointed out. Maki nodded. "Yes, it would appear so. But, what does that have to do with the first case?" Shuichi reminded that Rantaro couldn't remember his Ultimate Talent.
"Y-yeah, as a matter of fact, I can't remember it now either." Rantaro admitted. Shuichi shook his head. "It's nothing to be ashamed about. We only found out just before this trial. Rantaro... is the Ultimate Survivor. He became the Ultimate Survivor after surviving a past killing game, then got his memories wiped to participate in this one." Rantaro suddenly heard a loud ringing in his ears. He winced and pressed both of his hands against his ears.
"Rantaro, are you alright?" Kirumi asked. Rantaro had his eyes shut and his teeth gritted as a piercing pain came through his skull. "Y-yeah, I'm fine... just keep going." Kirumi nodded and turned back to Shuichi. "Alright, we thought that Rantaro had mistakenly found the hidden door when we first saw him open it in the photos. However, Rantaro actually had a perk, called the Survivor's Perk."
Rantaro, who had finally had the ringing in his ears stop, nodded. "Y-yeah, I had gotten it from Monokuma and there was a map of the academy on it. There was also a video I think I made. Did you see it?" Shuichi nodded. "Did you ever share the information with anyone?"
Rantaro nodded and looked at your portrait. "I'm not sure why... but Y/N seemed trustable. And they were." He smiled and looked down. "That's why they asked you to turn off the security sensors." Kaede remembered the incident. "Why did you go to the hidden room in the first place?" Rantaro scratched the back of his head. "Well, I thought that the mastermind would be in the hidden room just before the time ran out... I guess I never really saw the answer to that question."

Kaede looked to the ground guiltily. "But, the thing is.... I wasn't entirely sure if I could trust myself. I told Y/N since they seemed like the last person who would be suspicious of me. I don't remember filming the video, so I didn't know if it was fabricated by Monokuma." Shuichi nodded. "You must have been so lost, huh?" Rantaro nodded and admitted that since the time limit was almost up, he may as well check the hidden room.
"So you went to the library without consulting any of us?" Kirumi confirmed. Rantaro nodded and looked at your portrait. "I didn't really know what to do... but Shuichi had Kaede, while I had Y/N. Y/N, however, wasn't with me." Kaede crossed her arms. "Do you know what they said when they found out you died?"
Shuichi looked at the ground while Rantaro tilted his head. Kaede took a deep breath. "They blamed themself. They regretted not coming with you to the library." Kiyo pulled down his hat. "That seems like something they would say." Shuichi nodded and looked at your portrait. "So now that we know that info... we can look back to Rantaro's case."
"So Rantaro went to the library just before the time ran out." Kirumi recalled. "And then went to the hidden door." Kiibo continued. Monokuma added that Rantaro was the only one at the crime, causing Shuichi to yell, "No, that's wrong!" The room went silent as everyone turned to Shuichi. "When Y/N and I searched Rantaro's body, we only found his student handbook, but his Survivor Perk wasn't on him."
Rantaro tilted his head. "Where'd you find it?" Shuichi looked straight at Monokuma. "In the hidden room, meaning someone took the Monopad and brought it there." The Monokubs said, despite the fact that they didn't even know what was going on. "All he had on him was his student handbook! He didn't have his survivor perk with him!"
"What?! Yes I did! How else would I know about the hidden room?"
"That's right. And we don't only have Rantaro himself as evidence, but also the photo from his case." Maki added. Shuichi pointed out that the outline from the dried blood matched the way Rantaro was holding the Monopad in the photo. "Also, on Y/N's whiteboard in their bedroom, they questioned why the Monopad was in his hand, and then in his pocket when we found him." Monokuma pouted. "I knew I shouldn't have left them alone for too long."
Suddenly, Monokuma's paw pressed down on the detonator and Monokid blew up. "AAAAHHHH!" Monotaro screamed. Everyone near the area the Monokubs were covered their ringing ears. "Shut up, would ya?" Kaito scoffed.
"Well, Rantaro had both his Survivor Perk and his student handbook with him, and the Survivor Perk was found in the hidden room." Shuichi recalled. "Shuichi, are you assuming that the only person who can access the room took the Monopad?" Kiyo asked. Shuichi nodded. "Yes, I'm saying the mastermind took the Monopad to the hidden room."
"BUT-HOW-COME-THE-MASTERMIND-ISN'T-IN-ANY-OF-THE-PHOTOS?" Monodam asked. "YOUR- REASONING-SEEMS-TO-BE-WRONG." Miu cackled. "Well, if his reasoning is wrong, then your reasoning is dumpster fire!" She cleared her throat. "The cameras have 30 second intervals between each photo, idiot."
Monokuma said in an angry voice. "There's a flaw in your logic, too." Monodam questioned where the mastermind would be. "In the hidden room, obviously!" Himiko rebutted. Monodam shook his head. "IF-THEY-WERE-IN-THE-HIDDEN-ROOM-HOW-WOULD-THEY-KNOW-WHAT-WAS-HAPPENING-IN-THE-LIBRARY?"

Kiibo pulled out a picture of the Nanokubs. "Because of these. Everything they record is transferred to Motherkuma, which is in the hidden room." Ryoma shut his eyes. "Ah, so it would be able to tell the mastermind about the intervals, giving them a chance to kill Rantaro." Tsumugi tilted her head. "But why would they take the Monopad away? Were they afraid of us finding it?"
Monokuma shook his head. "Of course not! It's just that the Survivor Perk was only for Rantaro's eyes. He can only share the info with people he trusted." Rantaro smirked. "Well, I happened to do so." Kokichi smiled. "Neeheehee! There's a reason Y/N and I never let go of the fact that there may be a mastermind in the school! They told me~" Monokuma went silent.
"So, you admit the mastermind took the Monpad, right?" Maki asked. Monokuma nodded. "Yes... but only reluctantly. Besides, it's against the rules for me to tamper with a crime scene, so it's obvious that it was the mastermind." Shuichi was about to ask Monokuma if there was someone watching them, but Monokuma said. "This class trial has to do with Rantaro's case, right? So the fact that the mastermind took his Monopad shouldn't be important. In the end, Kaede was the one who killed Rantaro."
"That's not the truth." Shuichi said. "The true culprit was the mastermind controlling Monokuma!" Monophanie shook her head. "No! Kaede was the one with the shot put ball! She's the one who threw it." Shuichi argued back. "But what about the shot put ball with pink fibres on it? The shot put ball Rantaro was killed with was different from the one Kaede had." Maki bit her thumbnail. "What do you mean?" Shuichi explained that the shot put ball with pink fibres on it had no blood on it.
"Oh! On Y/N's white board, it said that the pink fibres might be from Kaede's vest!" Kaito recalled. Kaede nodded. "The shot put ball was wrapped with my vest... which was pink!" Shuichi hummed in agreement. "And it was clean of blood, so it couldn't have been the murder weapon! So that means..." "My plan failed!" Kaede finished.
"The mastermind inputs the threat of being annihilated at the end of that day." Kiyo stated. "They hoped that it would make someone want to kill to keep everyone alive, which is what happened." Kiibo continued. Himiko gasped. "So Kaede was executed under false charges?!" Tenko clenched her fist. "Some degenerate had to have done this!"
"You made us all believe that Kaede was the culprit!" Shuichi accused. Monokuma shook his head. "Not all of you~" Your portrait suddenly fell to the floor. "EEK!" Tenko screeched as the photo stand made a loud thump. "Y/N knew that Kaede didn't kill anybody. But did you believe them? Noooo!"
Shuichi gritted his teeth. "Either way, you let us vote wrong! I'll... I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!" Gonta agreed. "If not for Y/N, everyone would not be here now." Kokichi knelt down next to your photo and made it stand again. "We would've been avenging Kaede right now, but now..." Everyone joined in.
"WE'RE AVENGING Y/N!"
You landed on your feet in the centre of the podiums. "It's great seeing them all work together." You looked at your portrait with a large cross painted on it. "I'm sure they'd rather you be working with them." Kiyo's sister added. You smiled and nodded. "I guess so, but they seem to be working together just fine without me." Kiyo's sister landed next to you. "You're too kind, even once you're dead." You flew up in front of Kokichi, who didn't even know you were standing right in front of him. "It's a waste to be kind while you're alive, and mean once you're dead."
"You say that there's a mastermind... but what is your proof?" Monophanie asked. Monotaro agreed. "If there is one, where are they?" Tenko scoffed. "You degenerate male! Of course, you're the ones hiding them!" Angie folded her hands in front of her. "Atua is telling me that the mastermind is still in this academy!"
"Ah!" Tsumugi suddenly exclaimed. "Kaede's younger twin sister?" Kaede tilted her head. "What about her?" Tsumugi had a distraught look on her face. "What if she was the mastermind? She was written in the participation records for the Gofer Project!" Some of the previously deceased had a confused expression along their faces. "What's... that?" Miu asked. Kokichi shook his head. "That'd take waaaaay too long to explain."
"Maybe they were the eighteenth student hiding in the academy!" Himiko said. Shuichi shook his head. "That's... probably not it. Motherkuma stated that the mastermind came in and out of the hidden room often. That means they roamed around the academy, which would be a risky move if they were trying not to get found."
"Are you implying that one of the participants is the mastermind, Shuichi?" Kirumi asked. Shuichi slowly nodded his head. "But, we promised to fight together!" Himiko reminded. Monokuma giggled. "I guess that means those friendship bonds were a lie!"
"Wait..." Kokichi began. "Remember when we investigated Y/N's room, some of the writing was erased?" Kiyo nodded. "Yes, and I had to add something that Y/N had questioned me about before." Kokichi put his finger over his mouth. "Maybe... since Y/N asked you about the washroom, the mastermind has something to do with that?" Shuichi nodded. "That would make sense..."
"But, that doesn't exclude everyone that died, does it?" Kiyo asked. "It is quite easy to fake a death nobody witnessed." Kiibo nodded. "It would seem... that we're back to square one." Shuichi shook his head. "Not really... we just need to look back at everyone's alibis." "All the way from the first trial?" Kaede asked. Kaito nodded. "If Shuichi says we have to do it, then we probably have to!"
"Well, Himiko, Angie, and I were in the basement in the gaming room." Maki stated. "We were all together at the time, so there was no way for us to kill Rantaro."
"I was with Tenko looking for Rantaro." Kaito added.
"Gonta was in A/V room!"
"I... was kind of the victim." Rantaro joked.
"I was in my room..." Kiibo recalled.
Kokichi raised his hand. "Ooh! Ryoma and I were, too!"
"Shuichi and I were in the classroom upstairs, where Y/N asked us to turn off the sensors for a bit." Kaede said.
"Me, weirdo, Kirumi, and four eyes were in the dining hall." Miu reminded.
"Ah yes, Tsumugi left to go to the bathroom during this time." Kiyo recalled.
"Wait," Shuichi interrupted. "Tsumugi went to the washroom?" Tsumugi nodded. "Yep! The one closest to the dining hall." Himiko, Kaede, and Kaito turned their heads towards Tsumugi. "Near... the dining hall?" Kaede asked. "And you went to the girl's bathroom, right?"
Tsumugi blushed. "O-of course! I wouldn't go to the boy's!" Kaito furrowed his eyebrows. "But... that's where the secret passage to the hidden room is..." Tsumugi's eyes widened. "W-what?!" Maki bit her thumbnail. "So... the mastermind went to the girl's bathroom and waited for the thirty second intervals, and once they saw Kaede's plan failed, they got out of the hidden room and killed Rantaro."
"And they didn't go in through the library because of the dust on the card reader, right Shuichi?" Kaede asked. Shuichi hummed in agreement. "W-wait, but I'm... I'm just a cosplayer! I couldn't do something like this!" Tsumugi yelled. "But you went to the bathroom, right?" Ryoma asked. "That was part of your alibi."
"Y-you and Kiibo didn't have a solid alibi!" She was getting desperate. "You could've gone to the girl's-" "Did you see them in the girl's bathroom?" Shuichi interrupted. Tsumugi stiffened up. "Is... is this true?" Tenko asked. Himiko wasn't even making eye contact as she asked, "You said we would work together. Was that a lie?" Tsumugi aggressively shook her head. "Monokubs! You're up!" Monokuma yelled.
"Please, we don't wanna die!" Monotaro begged. "Bad guys don't wear glasses, y'know!" Monosuke ironically yelled. "Please, we wanna live!" Kokichi clenched his fist. "YOU wanna live?" Shuichi looked the Monokubs straight in the eyes. "Our friends... were sacrificed for this stupid game!"
Rantaro's eyes flickered to your portrait. "You've caused so much pain for all of us and you wanna live?" The Monokubs were terrified of being blown up. "There's no way she's the mastermind! You have no evidence!" Shuichi and Kokichi made eye contact, and said simultaneously, "No, that's wrong!"
"Whoo, that does feel good!" Kokichi said. Shuichi made a breathy chuckle and looked at the Monokubs. "Before Motherkuma was destroyed, it told us very important information..."
"I have a built-in voiceprint authentication system. I can't birth Monokumas unless the designated person specifically says, 'birth.'"
"That, of course, would be the mastermind." Shuichi said. "B-but, Kiibo wasn't there to try and tell Motherkuma to give birth! That means-" "You made sure not to say 'give birth.'" Shuichi interrupted. "You said, try and make a new Monokuma."
Rantaro turned to his right, and then his eyes widened. "Right Rantaro, left Kiyo..." He mumbled. "Pardon me?" Kiyo asked. "The message Y/N left for us, in the paper star." Kokichi's eyes widened and he took out the strip of paper. "It said 'right Rantaro, left Kiyo.... mastermind.'"
"Tsumugi... any rebuttal?" Kirumi asked. Tsumugi was silent. "Tsumugi... please say something... I wanna believe in you." Himiko pleaded. "She's right. Atua accepted you into his council! You must have something to say!" Angie said. Tsumugi stayed silent.
"Uggghhh, this is getting boring!" Monokuma complained. "Shuichi, why don't we look over the case again?" Shuichi pressed his lips together. "Come on, Shuichi!" He looked up and saw that Kaede and Kokichi were grinning at him. Well... Kokichi was more or less smirking. He felt a hand rest itself on his shoulder. "You've come this far, so why don't you make the final blow!" Kaito urged. He looked around the room as everyone smiled at him, and gave him encouragement.
His eyes stopped on your portrait. It seemed to turn into you leaning on the podium, and giving him your famous grin. "You've got this, Shuichi!" He heard you say. He smiled as he shut his eyes. "Alright, let's do this."
"The night of the incident, I was in the first floor classroom with Kaede. That's when Y/N popped their head through the door and asked us to turn off the sensors for about 5 minutes. A little after that, we saw Kaito, Maki, Tenko, Himiko, Angie, and Gonta walk to the basement. Rantaro was already in the halls of the basement with Y/N. After a little bit, Y/N returned upstairs and stayed with us in the classroom."
"At that time, four people were in the dining hall, including the mastermind, seven were in the basement, and three were in their bedrooms. Irritated that no murders were happening, the mastermind set a time limit until we all get annihilated. They knew about Kaede's plan, but wanted to ensure that it would work. The mastermind excused themselves from the dining hall and went to the girl's bathroom, where the secret passage to the hidden room was. With less than an hour until the time had expired, Rantaro went to the library and moved the bookcase hiding the hidden door."
"This set off the receiver that was receiving signals from the sensors in the library. It was all the same as the first trial, up until now. As Y/N and I ran to the library, Kaede took out the shot put ball and rolled it into the vent. At this time, Rantaro was lured towards the camera by a flash set by Kaede. The shot rolled down the path Kaede made, but didn't do what Kaede intended it to do. The shot put ball Kaede rolled down... didn't hit Rantaro. But because of this, the mastermind came up behind him... and hit him with their own shot put ball."
"The mastermind picked up Kaede's shot put ball and left their own at the scene. They also took the survivor perk Rantaro had received, and went back into the hidden room. I remember seeing the bookcase closing when we arrived at the library, and I'm sure the others that were with me can confirm that as well. The mastermind probably just committed the crime. And this hid the truth from all of us... almost. If you remember, during the first trial, Y/N had their doubts about Kaede being the culprit. Turns out they were right. After the murder, the mastermind put Kaede's shot put ball in the trash can, and the Monopad on the table. They went back through the hidden passageway and made it seem like they had just finished using the washroom."
"If I'm wrong, please argue back... Tsumugi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer!" Shuichi concluded. "N-no! It's not me... it's... it's Junko Enoshima! She was the mastermind for the first killing game, and the one on Jabberwock Island! Junko Enoshima is..."

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

What's This Fiction ? A Very Incomplete Project.
A fiction about itself and it's writer. Which is a very narcissic choice from the author, really, couldn't he have written anything else ? The cover was hastily made on gimp by the author.
