《The Retribution of the Ice Cold Maiden》19 - Do I have that kind of face?

"Are you freaking crazy?!" Soul asked in a panicked tone after seeing the sheer size of the library.
Selena and Soul's goal to go to the library was to record the books present inside so that Selena can access the huge information whenever she wanted so that she can pass the Aristocrat Exam with at least a Second-Class grade.
However, contrary to what Soul expected, the library was too huge. To make a comparison, it was the size of 4 basketball courts, and to add insult to injury, the building had multiple floors. The number of books present was definitely in the tens of thousands.
"Didn't we agree to test your memory capabilities? If you can't even complete such a minor task, what use are you to me? I might as well just wear the ring again." Selena replied nonchalantly as she picked a random book from a shelf. Since this was a library and there were many aristocrat children present, she had to pretend to read a book while Soul recorded them otherwise she would look suspicious.
"You are a slave driver...!! Expecting me to build freaking pyramids out of nothing...!! Where's Moses when you need him?" Soul felt like crying. Even though he was fully capable of recording every book in the library, it was not an automatic process. He had to manually approach a book with his radar and scan every page himself. It was like when one uses a photocopier. Sure, the machine can duplicate the pages, but one has to manually turn the pages per scan, and in Soul's case, he has to do this process for at least ten thousand times. Similarly, his speed was impeccable, but that was only in comparison to the real world. He himself would feel the speed as normal and so, one can see the reason why Soul felt like crying.
Selena plopped the book she was holding on the reading table with a thud. She sat down on her chair and flipped the book to a random page and replied to Soul, "If you do this... I will allow you to scan a beautiful lady with your radar once as you asked of me when I told you to scan Baron Turner."
"Slave Soul pays respect to Master." Soul suddenly had a change in his tone. If he had a body, he would have bowed down on all fours as a sign of submission.
The drastic change made Selena almost stumble from her chair.
"Ugh... Men." She thought to herself as she began reading the book in front of her.
*Fifteen minutes later...*
"Alright, I am done with these bookshelves, sit somewhere else. My radar is limited so I can't record the entire floor in one go." Soul informed Selena.
"How much of the floor did you cover so far?" Selena asked.
"Roughly... around 1/4th. You may have to change your seat at least three more times if you wish to record everything on this floor." Soul replied after pondering about it for a bit.
"Wait, before we go, did you read the books on the herbal plants in those previous shelves?" Selena asked.
"I... Yes, I did." Soul replied after checking his memory.
"Okay, then I like to take a test. According to what I know, In order to make a fever-reducing potion, one needs two major ingredients, the Darkmist Mushroom and the Silver-spotted Leaf, am I right?" Selena asked Soul.
"Hmm... Nope, Wrong...!!" Soul replied after a quick search that did not even take a second.

Selena clenched her fists. It seems Ex-Teacher Claire Walker really filled her head with garbage.
"So what is the right answer?" Selena asked, after calming herself.
"To make a fever-reducing potion, one indeed needs to use two ingredients, but one is a White mushroom with green veins on it and the other is the Bird illusion leaf. The latter gets its name from the shape of its leaf that looks like an origami bird from a certain angle. To make the potion, you will need to boil the mushroom in water from a pond filled with Crimson-scaled fish. One should drop the Leaf only after the water reaches the boiling point. If everything is done right, the water should turn a light shade of green, and also blah blah blah...." Soul continued vomiting out all the information he gathered about the potion.
Selena was shocked speechless. Soul did not just list the ingredients, but also the procedure to make the potion. As if that was not enough, he continued to explain how and by whom the potion was invented along with the inventor's life story. To make this matter even more extreme, he actually compared it with notes from other botanists and came with a better way to make the Potion. If Selena researched it, she will know that Soul's version has not been invented in the world yet and this invention was more than enough for her to automatically pass and become a doctor.
"Oh yeah...!! the ingredients you mentioned before..." Soul suddenly exclaimed as he thought of something.
"Those ingredients will not only not reduce the fever but also make the person vomit incessantly and put the patient in a euphoric state. Basically, the patient would enjoy vomiting and would deliberately try to vomit himself to death."
"COUGH...!!" Selena coughed loudly at that thought as she trembled in anger. She now felt that Claire Walker got off way too easy with a few broken bones. She deserved to be fed the very medicine she taught Selena to make.
Selena went quiet for a minute as she controlled her raging emotions.
"Alright, let's move on to the next table." Selena replied to Soul as she prepared to stand up.
"Hold up...!! I want to try something..." Soul called out to Selena.
"What are you---" But before she could complete the sentence, with a sound reminiscence of a flowing river, information surged inside her head. Every book that Soul read was transferred inside Selena's head.
"This..." Selena took a deep breath after Soul finished transferring the information.
"How do you feel? Do you feel a headache or migraine? Was the information too much for you?" Soul asked.
"I... No." Selena replied in astonishment after checking her condition. She was surprisingly fine after having this much information surged inside her. It surprised her as Soul had absorbed at least a thousand or so books and it should have put extreme pressure on her brain. But not only did she not feel overwhelmed, but she was also able to distinguish the information Soul sent with the ones Claire Walker taught her.
"Oh, good. I compressed the information to only key points which is why the data was small in size. I also left a few watermarks in the information so you can distinguish the information from the ones by that bitch. After scanning your brain, I can tell that this information barely contains even 1% of your current total capacity. Basically, you can store millions of books inside your head and access them without mixing the information." Soul replied with a proud tone.

"This..." Selena was shocked. It was indeed as Soul said so. She quickly searched her mind about the Fever reducing potion and not only was the information about it present in concise words, there were also detailed images of the ingredients in question. She could even make out the small details of the ingredients which one would not remember so well. If she saw the ingredients in real life, she would definitely be able to recognize them in an instant.
"I don't understand. Why did you send me all of this?" Selena asked Soul. She didn't ask for Soul to transfer the information to her.
"There are many reasons. But foremost, it was because you were capable of assimilating the information. Do you remember the time I transferred you information about acting?" Soul asked.
Selena nodded. Of course, she remembers. That was the day when they first met after Selena almost died.
"Well, even though I transferred the information to you, it was your memory's capabilities that allowed you to absorb everything. You have a natural talent at absorbing new information. Which is why I was confident that you would be able to absorb all these books too. It seems my guess was right." Soul replied and then continued.
"My second reason was that you mentioned that the reason I couldn't perceive inside the Prince's room when you fell unconscious was that there was a seal inside the room similar to your ring from the church. If that's true, then there is a chance that a similar seal could be in the Exam Hall to stop the students from cheating by using Magic items. Hence, if you put all the information inside me, and if I got sealed at the last moment, you will be in a precarious situation."
Selena jolted at the thought. She didn't think that this was possible too. Since the Royal Family supports the Exam Hall, of course, they would have made preparations to stop students from cheating. If she had really relied purely on Soul 's skills, and if the latter would have been sealed, there was a decent chance she would fail spectacularly. Soul had really thought far ahead.
"What's the third reason?" Selena asked after realizing Soul had one more reason for this.
"My third reason is... that I hoped you would be impressed with my efforts and allow me to scan two beautiful ladie---" but before Soul could finish, Selena abruptly stood up from her chair and darted to the second section of the library.
"Let's not waste any time. We still have much more work to do." Selena replied as she took a seat in front of another table.
"Aww, man..." Soul replied dejectedly.
*Another 30 minutes later...*
Soul finished collecting the books from the third section and Selena made her way to the fourth section. After another fifteen minutes, Soul finished the final section of the first floor and transferred the information to Selena.
"How do you feel?" Soul asked after completing the transfer.
"A bit tired... but no headaches or the sort." Selena replied as she coughed again. It seems assimilating thousands of books did take a bit of a toll on her.
"That's normal... why don't we take a break for today and come ba--- huh?" Soul stopped mid-sentence.
"What's wrong?"
"Hmm... That's weird. I didn't notice that book before." Soul replied as he showed an image to Selena.
It was the image of a shelf with many books on it. However, one of those books had an azure-colored cover and mist seems to be coming out from it.
"Is that book burning?" Selena asked as she turned to face the shelf. Surprisingly, the book in question was not visible to the naked eye.
"I think it is a magic item." Soul replied, "The mist you are seeing is the magic energy those magic items releases. There was a white mist around the Record Crystal of Baron Turner and the Bangle that almost took your life had a red mist."
"Magic item?!" Selena was surprised. She got up abruptly which made a loud noise as the chair slid back heavily. Paying no attention to the noise, she made her way to the shelf in question. She stood in front of the book but was still not able to see it.
"Soul, can you still see the book?" Selena asked.
"Yes, allow me to pass the live visual feed of my radar to you..." Soul replied as he connected his radar to her.
Suddenly, similar to the experience she felt when she peeked at the room next to her during the Prince's party, her surroundings suddenly became more vivid and the invisible book appeared in front of her. It was azure in color and had silver... no platinum engraved designs on it.
She lifted her hand to touch the book. As soon as her finger touched the book, it shook a little as if it was surprised it was found out. Then the magic mist around it dissipated and the book became clearer to look it. Soul unlinked his radar but the book did not disappear again. It seems touching it made it visible.
Selena picked up the book. It was a bit heavy but it was not enough for her to use both hands. It had a magic seal on it which was currently unclaimed. This means once Selena opened the book, she would be the owner of the book and it will be invisible to anyone besides her. Such a rare magical artifact was priced even higher than a Record Crystal, and that was even before she knew of its content.
"This..." Selena was shocked after realizing how much of a rare artifact she was holding.
"What are you waiting for? Open it...!!" Soul exclaimed excitedly. He was really curious to know its contents.
"I...Okay." Selena proceeded to flip the cover, but before she could do so, an angry female voice sounded next to her.
"You...!! Selena Booker, I challenge you to a duel...!!"
"Eh?" Selena was shocked by the noise and immediately turned towards the source of the voice.
It was a 13-year old girl with a light pink dress and twin tails on her matching pink hair. A little behind her was a group of similarly aged girls who also looked at Selena with anger on their faces.
Selena was dumbfounded. Wasn't she just reading books? How did she offend these bunch of women?
"Do I have that kind of face, that makes people automatically hate me?" Selena thought.
"Nah, you have a kind of face that people from my world call it Resting Bitch Face. It basically means you are doing fine but your face tells people to go kill themselves." Soul replied.
Selena "..."
