《The Retribution of the Ice Cold Maiden》36 - Who are we going after first?

"W-What is this...?!" Ellyn squealed out in panic as she looked at herself in the mirror.
She was dressed in a full-sleeves maid outfit with a long skirt by the two personal maids of Lady Selena's.
"I like it...!!" Soul exclaimed to Selena with an imaginary thumbs up who was sitting on the chair sipping on some tea. "Best beauties are dressed in full clothes. It helps brings a guy's imagination to a heavenly level."
"M-My Lady...!! Didn't you want a bodyguard...? Why am I dressed as a maid then?" Ellyn turned to ask Selena which fluttered her long skirt, "...and that too in such a granny-style maid dress."
"Couldn't help it..." Selena responded while sipping the tea, "...I don't want people to know that I have a bodyguard otherwise they will prepare accordingly which is why I dressed you as a maid. As for the long clothes..."
"...Your body is well toned and your muscles are visible if you wear half-sleeves clothes or a shorter skirt." Selena finished her explanation.
Ellyn suddenly regretted taking this job. She thought as long as she was employed by a woman, she wouldn't have to end up doing demeaning things but the reality was crueler than a scorned hamster.
"B-But I don't know anything about being a maid... I will be found out immediately."
"Which is why I asked Petra and Gwen to tutor you. You have two days to learn everything."
"T-Two days...?" Ellyn looked at the two personal maids of Selena who wore a wicked smile and their eyes glowed with the intent of mischief.
"Junior Ellyn... Let's start with the housework." Maid Petra said as she grasped one of the arms of Ellyn tightly.
"Yes, then later we will teach you how to perform the other various duties of a maid." Maid Gwen said as she grasped the other arm of the now sweating Ellyn.
"NNOOooooo....!!!" Ellyn screamed as she was dragged out by the maid duo who were too excited by the notion of having a junior among them.
Selena ignored them as they left and continued drinking the tea.
"So... What's the game plan?" Soul asked Selena.
"Let's start with summarizing who we are up against." Selena replied.
"Okay, let's see..." Soul began, "Our two major targets are the Connors Family and the Wyatt family."
"First, The Connors Family from the Kingdom of Grand Sky. It is the maiden family of your Step-mother, Nora Booker. It was Nora's younger brother, Bradley Connors who enticed your teacher, Claire Walker, and convinced her to poison your education with the wrong knowledge. It is also suspected that it was they who slipped the cursed bangle into the gifts for the family which almost made you kill yourself. They are doing all of this to make sure your half-brother, Nicholas Booker is the one who would inherit the manor so that they can solidify the businesses they have in this country."
"Secondly..." Soul continued, "We have the Wyatt family. The Elder son of the family, Ralnor Wyatt is married to your Maternal Aunt, Shalia. The younger son of the family, Peter Wyatt tried to force himself on your mother, Lily, when she rejected his advances. All of this was done for the family fortune of the Venbella family, which is your mother's maiden surname. When your mother died, they tried to adopt you to grab the remaining half of the fortune which you will get after your maternal grandfather, Finn Venbella... dies. But since it failed and according to the recent letter we got one week ago from your maternal grandfather's butler saying that his health is deteriorating, it seems they couldn't afford to wait any longer and decided to assassinate you before you inherit anything. But, as you remember, you convinced the assassin to kill the one who hired him instead... who turned out to be Peter Wyatt."

Selena paused for a minute before keeping down her cup and massaging her temple.
"Never did I thought that I would need an enemy list."
"Soooo... Who are we going after first?"
Selena closed her eyes for a minute before opening them again slowly as determination filled her ice-cold eyes.
"The Wyatt family, of course..."
"Eh? Why? We already killed one of them. Wouldn't it make sense to attack the Connors family? You know, kill their heir, Bradley. It will even out both parties."
"The Connors family doesn't suspect that I know their intentions yet. On the other hand, Peter Wyatt's death where it should have been mine must have raised several alarms in their heads. Since they were the ones who hired the assassin, they must know that it was not a serial killer who killed Peter. They have probably started looking into me more carefully which is why I had to disguise Ellyn as a maid to avoid allowing them to prepare a contingency plan against her." Selena explained.
"I see..." Soul nodded. "Alright, Wyatt family it is... But, what exactly are you planning on doing about them?"
"Hmm..." Selena fell into thought, "I can't expose their attack on me as it will also reveal my participation in Peter Wyatt's death. I also can't use Peter Wyatt's actions from back when he harassed my mother as he is already dead."
"Doesn't that mean we are simply out of options." Soul interjected.
"Not necessarily..." Selena continued, "If the Wyatt family is just as ruthless in their daily lives as they were in attacking my mother and me... then they are bound to have many dark secrets. We just have to find a way to unearth them."
"True... but how are you planning on uncovering them?"
"Hmm..." Selena thought of something and then flicked her wrist to materialize a bell which she rang.
"Yes, My Lady?" An old man with shining red armor with a cloak walked in and kneeled. It was none other than Guard Rhys. He finally passed the background check and officially became Selena's Personal Guard a few days after Ellyn was interviewed.
"Prepare a Carriage and some gifts. I am going to visit my Maternal Grandfather tomorrow." Selena commanded.
"Yes, My Lady." Guard Rhys obeyed and left the room to make preparations.
"Visit your Grandfather?" Soul asked.
Selena nodded and brought out a note and pen to write a letter.
"Since I don't have anything on them at the moment, I need to shake the hornet's nest to rile them up so they will act against me again." Selena explained as she began writing a letter to her Grandfather letting him know of her visit.
"Ohh...!! I see. But will it work?" Soul asked.
"Seeing that they are wary of me and not to mention angry for the death of Peter Wyatt, it will be abnormal of them to not act against me."
"Will you be taking Rhys and Ellyn along with you?"
"Of course, safety is my top priority. Afterall..." Selena replied as she narrowed her eyes.
"I can't seek Retribution... if I am dead."
-4 hours later, in the Venbella Manor-
"Eh? My Granddaughter is coming to visit?" A sickly old bearded man got up hurriedly in an excited tone as the news seemed to have given him some energy.
"Yes, Master. She will be departing tomorrow so we should expect her by the morning of the day after that." A Butler who was also old and wrinkled replied in a solemn voice as he read the letter delivered by a messenger pigeon of the Booker Manor.

"Lennox... did you inform them of my..." Grandfather Finn Vanbella asked his Butler in doubt.
"I apologize for not seeking your permission before sending the letters informing the Bookers and the Wyatts of your health. I will accept any punishment you will give me." Butler Lennox bowed and replied with a sad tone.
"No, No... You did well." Grandfather Finn shook his head as he sat on the bed again as the temporary surge of energy drained away.
"I didn't want to inform the Bookers because I was sure that my Granddaughter doesn't care for me ever since her mother... died." Grandfather Finn choked on the last words.
It was no secret that the Wyatts and the Bookers always had a bad relationship. It worsened after Lily Booker, his daughter died and the Wyatts tried to adopt Selena for obvious reasons. However, he didn't act as both families were his in-laws and he didn't want to have disputes with either of them even though he knew it was his fortune that caused all of this. However, this indecisive thinking enraged Selena's father, Marquis Will Booker who cut off all relations with him.
Thus, he ended up being distant from Selena and always regretted his decision in his heart. He didn't want to send a letter to the Bookers because he feared they will simply reject the idea of seeing him and this scared his already weakened heart. So he had decided to keep his waning health a secret.
"Lennox... do you feel that... I should have acted differently back then?" he asked as he was slowly laid on the bed by the Butler and the Nurse who was taking care of him.
"In my opinion..." Lennox spoke frankly as the years of being Finn Venbella's personal butler allowed him to do so.
"You should let go of the past since you can't change it but instead, concentrate on how you can fix the relation between you two when she comes to visit."
"I see, that's a... COUGH...!! COUGH...!!" Grandfather Finn coughed violently.
"Nurse Ursula... Bring the medicine." Butler Lennox commanded the nurse while he caressed Finn's back and made him drink some water.
"Yes..." Nurse Ursula nodded and left the room. She quickly made her way to the medicine cabinet and took the medicine out.
But before she went back inside, she stopped in place and surveyed her surroundings. After making sure that no one was around, she quickly removed something from her pocket. If Soul was here, he would recognize it as a Communication Ring which was also used by Urak Blade, the gang leader who tried to blackmail Selena.
She quickly sent a message with a few surges of magic, pocketed the ring again, and made her way back inside the Master Bedroom.
-2 minutes later, in the Wyatt Manor-
"Sniff... Sniff..." A middle-aged woman was weeping silently in the main hall with her ten-year-old son sleeping on her lap. Anyone familiar with the Wyatt family would immediately recognize them as the Wife of Peter Wyatt, Eliza Wyatt, and their son Cole Wyatt.
Around her were the remaining family members of the Wyatt family.
Marquis Hendrix Wyatt - The Current Head of the Wyatt Family.
Ralnor Wyatt - The Firstborn Son of the Wyatt Family and the future heir.
Shalia Wyatt - The wife of Ralnor and the elder sister to Lily Booker, Selena's mother.
Zane Wyatt - The 20-year-old son and the only child of Ralnor Wyatt.
Wilfred Wyatt - Hendrix's younger brother who remained unmarried his whole life.
Eliza was being consoled by Shalia while the family discussed Peter's death. They had just received an Official letter from the Royal Guards about their investigation into Peter's untimely demise.
"Respected members of the Wyatt Family,
It is with deep regret that we inform you that we still have not found Peter Wyatt's killer. However, it does not mean we have stopped looking into it. We of the Royal Guards strongly feel that the case is going to be very difficult. So, please be prepared for a prolonged investigation period. If you have any information on the Case which you may be aware of, please let us know as it will only help in speeding up in finding Peter's killer. With Sincerest Apologies,
The Royal Guard of the Evergreen Kingdom."
*Thwacckkk...!!*
The letter which was crumbled and thrown by Marquis Hendrix in anger and frustration made the noise as it hit the floor.
"Those Useless pigs...!! It is obvious it was done by those bastards. How hard it is to find the truth." he bellowed in anger.
"Father..." Ralnor interrupted his Father and eyed the room, "If they find out the true reason behind brother's death, would it not mean that our... ahem... plan would also come to light?"
"Ugh... I know." Marquis Hendrix gritted his teeth.
"Husband..." Shalia spoke, "...Is it still not safe to tell us what brother-in-law was doing that got him killed in the first place?"
"I am sorry, Dear. But know this, my brother was working to protect our Wyatt Manor, and revealing it now will only hurt the cause he died for." Ralnor Wyatt skillfully lied to his Wife about the true reason for Peter's death.
"I-I understand..." Shalia lowered her head as she continued to console the widow of her brother-in-law who was now crying loudly.
"Father, GrandFather..." Zane stood up and started talking.
"Please allow me to take Uncle's place in the mission. I promise I will avenge him." He said with determination. Unlike his mother, he was fully aware of the situation and the true reason behind his uncle's death.
"Certainly Not...!!" Various voices of dissent came from the Wyatt family.
"Zane, I understand your anger..." Wilfred spoke in a grim voice. "...But you and your cousin Cole are the future of our manor, we cannot risk getting you involved in such a dangerous matter. Let us elders handle this and----"
His speech was interrupted by a Butler who came to him and whispered something in his ears. Wilfred's eyes narrowed as a visible hatred was seen on his face.
"GrandUncle?" Zane asked in puzzlement.
"It seems..." Wilfred spoke in a sinister tone as he formulated a plan in his head.
"The chance for revenge came to us sooner than we thought."
