《Revival [The Lake House Sequel]》Chapter 24

Justin
Dimitri paced his huge foyer, his wife behind him crying. Earlier, in between sobs, she introduced herself to me as Ella. Mascara ran down her cheeks as she clutched onto the tissues Dimitri's housekeeper handed her.
"I told you years ago," She screamed at Dimitri. "I told you there was something off about Nathan. I told you he needed help!"
I came over to tell Dimitri about Gianna's call to me just hours ago. Now, she was nowhere to be found. Nate wasn't answering any phone calls. Now, chances were he had something of mine and something of Dimitri's. Whatever sick plan this kid had, it was working and we were stupid enough to fall into it.
"Enough," He yelled right back, clawing his hands through his graying hair.
"Enough? Enough?" Ella shrilled. "He took two innocent girls. He took my daughter, all as some sort of payback. You better find her, Dimitri, or so help me God; I will take this to the police. You've ruined so many lives and I've sat back and done nothing. But not anymore-"
Dimitri let out a roar, charging forward at his wife's threat. But I quickly intervened, stepping in between them. "Hey," I yelled, blocking him. "I didn't come here for this. We're just wasting time."
Dimitri glared at Ella and then over at me. "I'm going to call Henry and Anthony. I thought I raised my son to be smarter than this. I thought wrong." He shook his head. "Be ready to leave soon."
He left me and Ella in complete silence. I turned to her and noticed that her crying ceased. "I'm going to leave him," She said, staring at nothing. I wasn't even sure she was even talking to me. "I've always been too afraid of him coming after me, or worse Gianna. But I don't care anymore."

"He loves Gianna." I replied softly. "We're going to bring her back." I promised.
Ella nodded with a sniff. "Bring them both back, Justin, please."
--
My knee bounced as Anthony steered my truck down the freeway. We were following behind Henry, who had Dimitri in the passenger seat of his sports car. The silence would have been uncomfortable but I had too much on my mind to even notice.
I wanted to kill him. I wanted to beat him over and over until he was unrecognizable. I wanted to wrap my hands around his neck and watch every last breath leave his body.
I let out a groan, rubbing my hands through my hair. It was becoming too long and I hadn't bothered to do anything with it. I had too much on my mind.
"The girl's parents must be worried sick about her."
"Her name's Ana, not 'the girl' I snapped. "And yeah, they are. I can't even tell them where she is or who has her. How the fuck am I supposed to tell them that this sick son of a bitch took her?"
"Nate set a house on fire years ago." Anthony murmured. "He's always been a spoiled kid. Throwing fits when he didn't get what he wanted. He broke into a woman's home and she caught him. He got involved with the police and burned the place down as payback. No one was hurt and Dimitri cleared it up to make it seem like it was just an old woman who left a candle out without realizing. Told us to never bring it up again."
"Wow," I said.
"I have two boys. Twenty three and thirteen. The older one just got married last year. I haven't seen either of them in years."

"How come?"
He shrugged, "My wife took them to Florida. It was dangerous for them to be around me. I could have stepped out of this job any time I wanted. But this is going to follow me for the rest of my life. Get your girlfriend, Bieber and go somewhere far away from here. It's still early in the game for you. Trust me when I say this; you do not want this life for you or for her."
I nodded, "Why didn't my uncle step out? For the same reason?"
"Not quite." Anthony huffed. "Richard was a coward. He craved money and he craved power. He wouldn't have walked away from this world for anything."
I chuckled. "Yeah I can see that."
"You're a good kid, Bieber." He followed Henry onto the exit ramp. "You've got a girl who loves you. Take advantage of that." He said to me, as if he was telling me something I didn't already know.
--
"So what exactly is the plan here?" I asked Dimitri as he put the passcode into the front gate. He stayed quiet as we walked. "Please tell me there's a plan."
"I'm only focused on getting my daughter and your girlfriend out of here." He snapped. "Nathan is a bratty kid who has always craved Daddy's attention. He may think his little plan is foolproof but he will never stop trying to attract my attention. He will always be afraid of me. Whatever attention he's trying to get with this bullshit will stop today."
I rolled my eyes at Dimitri's confidence. He approached the large front door, key in hand. We stepped into the foyer nonchalantly. My heart pounded. I was getting Ana back today. I felt my gun press into my backside where I had it hiding in the waistband of my jeans. Dimitri said no bloodshed today but I didn't give a shit. Ana was coming home with me. She would be back with her family before the day was over.
There were footsteps in the kitchen. "Nate?" Dimitri called out, placing his hand in front of me to keep me from moving.
"Dad?" Nate called brightly from the kitchen. "Give me a sec."
Dimitri and I glanced at each other. The kitchen door swung open and Nate appeared with a huge grin. My breath stopped when my eyes immediately went to the gun in his hand and the girl under his arm.
"Well it's about damn time you two show up."

Survival elements will be present but it won't be the focus of the story, but crafting and enchanting on the other hand are going to be quite prevalent.
