《Room Mates (NaLu)》Chapter 20 ~ The Letter

The school week passed rather quickly. I felt chilled, with no problems to worry about. Now that I had patched things up with Lisanna, we were texting the odd time and had planned to go out.
Natsu and I were still great. Being roommates with your boyfriend definitely has its benefits. One of those being wrapped in warm, safe arms every morning. We'd started sleeping in a eachothers beds, alternating every night, though in my opinion, his bed is definitely the comfiest. At first we would come with the excuses that 'we couldn't sleep' or 'it was cold' but now it's just the norm.
It's now Saturday; Another day free from responsibilities and a time to relax and get your head straight.
Well, at least that's how we wanted it to be.
Me and Natsu were woken up at 2am to the noise of violent pounding on our dormitory door. I groaned in annoyance as the noise echoed loudly through the apartment. I rolled out of Natsu's strong grasp, slipping my feet into my slippers and throwing on a flannel for warmth. I waddled to the front door tiredly, wiping my eyes in the process to wake my self up. Not even taking into account the time, I swung open the door.
I groaned again in annoyance when I saw no one there. I stepped one foot out of the doorway to look down the long coridoor outside the dorm. I squinted my eyes as I saw a blur of a figure run into the elevator a few doors away, but no way could I make out who it was.
By now my face was screwed up in confusion. Why would someone knock on our door and just run away? I turned around to step back into the apartment when my foot brushed against something. I squealed and quickly recoiled my foot in panic, my slipper falling off in the process. Once I'd looked down I relaxed, realising it was only an envelope.
The envelope was red, rimmed with gold around the edges. I bent down to pick it up, but as soon as I gripped my fingers around it, a sizzling sound appeared. I rapidly threw the envelope back to the floor after realising it was burning my hands.
"Jesus!" I cursed, looking at my wounded hands. How the hell can an envelope be hot?

I tried picking it up again, only to be left with more burnt fingers. I looked down at the red envelope on the floor, wondering why it wasn't burning anything else. I came to the conclusion to kick it back into the apartment. The idea was successful, as I soon stood next to my bed, Natsu still tucked under the covers.
"Natsu!" I whisper-shouted. I leant over the bed and shook him a little. The sheets moved as Natsu husky voice was heard.
"Luce? Who was at the door?" He croaked, lifting his head from under the covers. The room was still dark so I could barely make out his facial expression, but I would imagine it as pretty cute seen as he just woke up.
"I don't know. They ran off and left an envelope on the floor." Natsu sat up and scurried to the edge of the bed. He looked down at the envelope on the floor before giving me a confused look.
"Luce why is it still on the floor?" He asked, lay on his belly across the bed, holding himself up with his hands under his chin.
I lifted my hands to show him my slight burns, he examined them as I talked.
"It burnt me! I tried picking it up but I cou-" I stopped in my tracks.
Natsu was now holding the envelope in his hands. He had picked it up as I was talking with no problem whatsoever.
"How...How did you do that?" I asked, trying to take the envelope from his hands but quickly pulling back as it once again burnt me.
"I don't know..." He said, examining it carefully.
"Hey its addressed to me!" He beamed, showing me his name that was now printed on the front of the envelope in black. I looked at it with a confused expression on my face. What the hell is going on?
Natsu started tearing open the envelope, eager to find out what was inside.
"Wait! Natsu!" I said, holding up my hands. He stopped and looked at me. His fingers impatiently fiddling with the torn edges.
"What?"
"Maybe it's dangerous. Why would an envelope burn me and not you, Natsu? This doesn't feel right" I said, making my worried thoughts audible.
"It's fine, it's for me so of course it won't burn me" Said Natsu, not even considering why or how an envelope would burn anyone in the first place.

I watched nervously as he finished tearing the envelope open. He slipped out a white piece of paper that was folded in half.
He looked up at me, before looking back down and opening it steadily. I stayed stood infront of him, watching his reaction as he read through the supposed words on the paper.
I watched as his eyes widened as little and his breathing hitching.
"Natsu is everything okay? What does it say?" I said, as he covered his mouth with his hand.
He looked up at me again, silently passing me the piece of paper to look at for myself.
'Natsu,
You know what we want. And we know what you want.
We have your father, Igneel.
Bring us what we want and he'll be there.'
I mirrored Natsu's previous actions, covering my own mouth with my hand and widening my eyes in shock. Is this real?
"Natsu..." I started, but had no actual idea of what I intended to say.
"Lucy they have my dad." Croaked Natsu, looking at me with watery eyes. "My dad Luce" He repeated.
He had talked about his dad. How he had been missing for a year now. This obviously meant a lot to him, but what if it was just some stupid prank that had been made by someone who had happened to find out? Anyone could just google Natsu's name and whole websites would appear dedicated to finding his father.
I don't think he could deal with having his hopes built up, just for them to be crushed back to dust again.
I looked further down the piece of paper to see more cursive writing at the bottom.
'The back entrance to Riggs Arcade.
He'll be waiting.'
"Natsu, what do they want?" I asked. "And who are they?"
The letter said he knew what they wanted, but what was it? I looked up at him. He was looking at the floor, a distant look in his eyes.
"I don't know!" He yelled in frustration, throwing the letter that I had passed back to him in the floor angrily. "I don't know who they are or what they want! All I know is they say they have my dad."
I watched as Natsu broke down into tears in the middle of the carpet next to my bed. I watched as he pressed his knees to his chest and sobbed. I watched as my Natsu fell apart.
"Natsu.." I said, bending down and wrapping my arms around him in hopes of giving him some type comfort.
"Think, is there anything you recognise about the envelope, colours or just the writing itself? Maybe we can figure out who they are and then it will be easier to know what they want." I said, trying to come up with some sort of strategy to help Natsu get his dad back.
He looked up at me and wiped his eyes with his bare wrists.
"I have no idea Luce" He said, looking down at the envelope on the floor to the left of us.
I picked it up to examine it myself. I know I probably knew nothing about the situation but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. My eyes scanned the crumpled white paper first, looked over every corner, word or blot for evidence. I looked at the beginning letter of every line, sentence and word, looking for some sort of connection. But to no avail did I find anything.
Next came the envelope. I picked it up, replacing it's place on the floor with the letter.
"Wait Luce, how are you holding that right now? I understand why you could hold the letter, but you're holding the envelope and it's not burning you." Observed Natsu, who had been watching me the whole time.
"That is weird" I replied, flipping the envelope around in my hands, wondering why. "Maybe once you opened it, it stops? I don't know..."
I once again started to examine. I carefully looked at Natsu's name on the front, studying the text hoping for something that would stand out.
I sighed when nothing did. Throwing the envelope back to the floor with the letter. I placed my chin in my hands, sighing.
"Woah, wait Lucy look." Said Natsu.
I looked over to see him leaning over the envelope and picking something up from inside.
His fingers pinched around the small circular piece of card inside. It was white with a red dragon like pattern on. He slipped it out, looking at it with a stern expression.
"Crimson Scale."

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Words I Left Unsaid
"Like a treasure map in a bottle, We were slowly drifting apart, Mother Nature sailing our purpose out to sea, The more I got to know you, I realised how much of a hoax your devotion was, Almost as fake as the smile I paint across my shattered face."This collection of poetry releases trauma in the form of expression - mainly the words I could never build up the courage to say. Most of these poems present conflict of the mind and allude to mental health struggles, which may be relatable to a certain community of people.Ranks -#3 in poem#3 in poembook#8 in poetry collection #7 in sadpoems#6 in poemcollection #7 in wisdom #15 in poetic
