《Apocalyptic Invasion》Chapter 6: Town

He had mixed feelings after hearing the broadcast. His past made him averse to having any contact with the security forces, but the current situation required him to do so.
His gaze was drawn to Lisa, who had an elated expression on her face.
Tears filled her eyes as she exclaimed, “We’ll be saved!”
He nodded at her and drove on. The journey will take no more than two days if everything goes as planned.
“Are you going to the capital as well?” she asked suddenly.
Previously, Lisa never inquired about his destination. Instead, she simply followed, since her priority was to survive.
“No,” he replied, shaking his head.
Her smile faded as she stared ahead at the highway, but then a voice caught her attention.
“I will pass through the capital and drop you off there,”
Although she wasn’t sure for sure, she wasn’t happy when she heard he would drop her off in the city. He was her support during this time.
“Thank you,” she muttered and kept quiet.
As he looked at her distracted face, he was surprised at her reaction. He understood why she reacted that way.
As he continued driving, he shook his head. The highway looked rather deserted to him. He spotted some cars and undead wandering about, but he didn’t have any issues with either of those things.
It surprised him that there weren’t many survivors; he had seen few till now.
Since the deserted road was empty and no signs of the undead were present, he pulled over to the side and stopped.
“Why did he stop in the middle of nowhere?” Lisa was confused. She imagined scenarios in which he would take advantage of her. She didn’t mind if he were to do it.
Despite her fear, she had expectations as well.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the clatter of the door opening. As she chided herself, she realized she was thinking too much.
Seeing Alex exit the Hummer, she hurriedly opened the door and stepped outside.
An abrupt breeze hit her face; she glanced around only to see that there was a crop field on the other side of the road.
After that, she noticed Alex standing in the distance.
As he stared at the long road, he was filled with thoughts.
Trying to catch his attention, she asked slowly, “Why did you stop?”.
He turned around and said, “I was driving for a long time, and you can eat here.”
“Where are you going then?” she asked as she nodded.
“I’ve got to check something out,” he said while staring at her; then he opened the back door and took the bag of food from inside.
He took out two cans of beans from the bag and handed one to Lisa and started eating.
While nibbling the food, Lisa glanced at him from time to time. To avoid making him upset, she did not ask him any further questions about his destination.
After finishing the food, they began their journey again.
While driving for some time, Alex glanced at Lisa and saw that she was lost in some thoughts as she stared out the window.
After shaking his head, he drove on, but then he saw a signboard showing the distance to a nearby town.
Approximately 20 km away was a town by the name of Aramore.
As the evening approaches, the sky will turn dark soon.
Ultimately, he decided to take the day off in that town. He found out last night that the undead were quite active during the night and it would be unwise to spend the night in Hummer.

Instead of entering the town, he will seek shelter in the first house he encounters.
After driving for some time, he spotted a villa on the outskirts of the town. As he maneuvered into the villa, he was surprised to find no undead nearby.
Seeing the Villa, he wasn’t too concerned about it.
As Lisa looked at the villa, she asked him, “Is it safe?”.
“Don’t Worry” He replied.
Having parked in front of the villa, he stepped out of the car while holding the gun in one hand. Then he pulled the bag from the backseat.
While gripping the bat, Lisa also followed him out.
He locked the Hummer and looked at Lisa.
“Follow me,” he said as he approached the door. To his surprise, he found the door was not locked.
He slowly opened the door when suddenly he jerked back his hands and hurriedly retreated backward as two undead, one man and one woman, started running towards him behind him, making some strange noises.
With one hand, he grabbed Lisa’s bat, hit the undead man on the head, and then shot another undead in the head.
A blow to the undead was so powerful that it broke its head open.
A moment later, he grabbed Lisa’s hands and dragged her inside. A sudden commotion and the smell of blood will certainly attract some undead to the area.
While Lisa was stupefied, she could not comprehend the events that had just occurred, and when she regained consciousness, she realized she was inside the house.
Suddenly, she felt nauseated because of a strong smell.
He frowned as he smelled the disgusting smell that was coming from the room.
As he approached the room, he was utterly shocked by what he saw.
It was the rotting, torn body of a kid on the floor, with its stomach turned forward and its intestines spilled all over. There were also several pieces of flesh missing from the body.
It was her own parents who ate her.
As she stood behind Alex, Lisa peeked into the room.
As if she couldn’t control herself, she vomited right there. What she saw devastated her to the core.
.......
Both of them did not know that a man stood in front of the window, a binocular in one hand, staring at the villa in which Alex and Lisa were.
