《Apocalyptic Invasion》Chapter 8: Creature?

He was jolted awake by the sudden noise. He looked around to see Lisa waking up. She stared at him and stammered, "What was that?"."
"I have no idea, but I'll see" He replied to her, and got up.
Holding the gun in one hand, he slowly opened the door.
"Be careful," Lisa said. He glanced at her and nodded.
When he went outside, he heard some voices, just like he had heard from the undead. As he peered down, he was shocked at what he saw on the ground floor.
The door was broken, and something massive was rampaging downstairs. A monster that stood almost 8 feet tall, had blisters covering its rotting skin and had sharp claws.
From how it was acting, it seems that it was searching for something. It didn't seem like one of those brainless undead.
"What the fuck is that?" he muttered while contemplating how to handle it. Another creature entered the house and looked directly at him.
As he hid, his heartbeat increased as he heard the approaching footsteps.
The sound of the footsteps ceased, and he heard a voice.
It's OK to come down now; I know you're up there"
Alex scrambled, what is happening, how can people control these creatures? After inhaling deeply, he tightened his grip on his gun and peeked once more.
In front of him was a middle-aged man, dressed like an office worker wearing plain trousers and a shirt. His pale face was complemented by extremely reddened eyes as if he was struggling with something.
When that creature saw Alex, it started struggling, causing a change in the man's face, who kept grunting while trying to look at Alex.
Then Alex realized the man was under too much pressure to control these creatures. However, there is a good chance for him to kill at least one of them.

As he stood on the stairs, he shot the creature multiple times without saying a word.
The creature was stronger than any undead he'd seen so far, and single shots couldn't harm it greatly, but multiple shots at the same spot shattered the creature's head and caused its body to fall down the stairs.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Don't you dare do that?" He screamed, and blood started to pour out of his nose. He slumped on the ground with a lost look on his face.
The other creature started thrashing everything on the spot as it became increasingly agitated, then suddenly it turned to run towards Alex.
As soon as Alex changed the magazine in the gun, he fired many times on the head, and the result was the same.
Its body fell to the ground after its head was smashed.
Alex ran quickly to the man who was sitting on the ground and staring listlessly at him.
After grabbing hold of the collar, he gave him a hard punch to the face.
His punches continued as he yelled, "How the fuck were you controlling them?".
Suddenly the man regained his senses as he stared at Alex and cried, "Why did you do this? I lost my babies."
"You, you devil, you know how many undead, I've fed them. An... And you killed them," he said.
As the man uttered nonsense, blood began flowing from his mouth and his eyes as he grabbed Alex by the hands, and struggled to get up.
While this man continued struggling, Alex kicked him on his chest. The man started crying, blood smeared across his face.
"I came here to make you me, to form a relationship, but you killed my family! How am I going to rule the world now?," Yo...You destroyed my dream!"
The man began screaming as he cried.
Frustrated, Alex looked at the man, confused as to what to do.
Eventually, he shot the man dead. When he turned around, he saw Lisa staring at the dead body of the creature.
Lisa, who was still staring at the body, heard Alex shout, "Grab the bag quickly, we have to get moving."

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
