《White Mystic Fox In A Radical World》Chapter 16- Adventurer's Guild

“They sure treat me well because of this white hooded cloak. Then after replacing the ragged one I wear underneath it, I became a total white covered weirdo in addition to the white-demon carved mask hiding my face”
Surprisingly, although it hides even my eyes from the outside, when I use it, my vision became clearer as if I didn't wear a mask at all. Strange, it's the transparent ability and inexpensiveness making it a good bargain for the likes of me who wants to remain low profile.
But it's nothing worse than the neanderthals' eccentric culture. You could see they didn't have any standard clothing at all, if my guess were correct, everybody wants to show their uniqueness through clothing to fill their inferiority complex against homo sapiens' beauty and intelligence.
I tried to ask these questions regarding them to homo sapiens, I mean Jonas and his party, It seems they outnumbered the homo sapiens for some reason and homo sapiens which is a race of Jonas were treated like the nobility of humanity and no one was against the idea since they're excelled on all things except for one thing.
Neanderthals were a bit shorter than homo sapiens. Neanderthals were both shorter and thicker, so while a homo sapiens might beat them on the spellcasting field and puzzle quiz, they could probably out-arm-wrestle any homo sapiens. The next thing I mostly notice is a broad and flaring nose with large nostrils of theirs.
They're not primitive by any means and I'm particularly conflicted about whether or not I used the term modern humans for homo sapiens since archaic humans were non-existed back on earth. In case I'm born as homo sapien then I have the right to invoke my privilege in any government position and assert nobility status.
During that dinner, Jonas, Elmo, and Moa tell me all about this and they seem repulsive to the idea as it means you are tied to the king and subjected to work for the populace. Story short, freedom was limited just like the governess' situation.
I wonder if a child between two races can be conceived…
“Oh there it is”
After passing countless unusual commercial buildings and asking for directions from the good shop owners, I finally arrived at the Adventurer's Guild. It was a tall building made out of a hard type of wood and concrete as foundations, when I came inside, many adventurers with their rambunctious talks and games stopped and looked at me. I thought this was common so I ignored it and entered while looking around.
“Dwarves, and beastmen races huh…”
There are some races I still didn't know about and most people here were dressed funny yet creepy, except this was real and common sense in this world.
Mages, warriors, assassins, monks, archers, and priests I can see them all here seated at the many tables strewn all over this space just like RPG games I played. Even two dwarves were drinking in front of the warm hearth while arguing with a male dog-kin.
But I don't find any fox person here.
And on the far end was a bar manned by many clerks, besides it on the other hand were the receptionists all are female homo sapiens managing paperwork professionally and processing the quests picked off by other adventurers.
I walked to the nearest reception. A young human noblewoman who stood there acknowledged my presence and smiled sincerely. She was the receptionist, she had long light-brown hair with the ends of her hair black, meekly yet dominant brown eyes, and the signature feature of her face which was her eyeglasses and perfectly suited to her charisma.

She wore the same uniform that the receptionists here wore, which consists of a white dress shirt covered by a sky blue vest adorned with gold embroidery, a long black skirt, and a strap black belt that had the symbol of the guild and nobility embedded in the middle. The same goes for other reception staff.
And most of all, I can't afford to make enemies of her nor the guild. This woman I suppose can topple Meteor Impact with ease, just from the pressure she emitted though not as far as those fox women I met.
"Good afternoon kid, how may the guild help you? Are you here to put up quests or perhaps register as an Adventurer? I haven't seen your appearance around here before so it may be the latter."
She talked a bit faster than the average person and she did it all with a smile on her face. I have to admit, she's beautiful too and has a nice female figure. But most of all, it must be tiring to smile like that all day.
“Here is my recommendation letter, ma'am”
She looks very respectable and no doubt about it.
“My apologies but the examination were over two days ago but if you were to register, we will assure your signup right away and start at the lowest rank.“
What a waste, I could skip to the middle rank if I'm not late. Then I'm going to be rookie-level low rank.
“Want to sign up? Oh by the way there is a change on rankings and the announcement arrived this morning“
The Meteor Impact told me there are four hierarchical levels namely— low, middle, high, and super. For the low-tier category, the starting point for the adventurers is Rookies, then Amateurs and Apprentice Levels. As for the middle-tier category, Regular, Veteran, and Challenger. Then finally for the high-tier category, Master, Grandmaster, and Champion-level.
And the woman tells me, the low-rank levels were now rookie, apprentice, and regular then a shift adding to the middle rank which is expert before veteran-level.
"I'm here to register as an adventurer, is that okay?"
"Yes! By all means, you're very welcome in our establishment! Please hide your recommendation letter as we didn't deem it necessary"
She asked me to wait for a second and she shrunk down at her desk, trying to take something. She emerged from it afterward and placed a tablet-looking device on the table. It had a blue screen with several lines decorating it.
"Then please place any of your two hands on this."
I did as she asked and placed my left hand on top of the tablet's screen. It instantly began to glow brighter and a sort of white light kept creeping forwards and backward on my hand like it was getting scanned.
"It's an Entity Statistics Analysis device or ESA that the nobility had invented recently. It allows us to evaluate an adventurer's physical and magical abilities including potential growth. You could say this is a test, if you fail this with low scores on both criteria, it will mean you won't be able to join the guild. Don't worry child, the device only shows a rough estimate of might and arcane stats, no information will be hacked or collected by anyone even the emperor. We can assure you"
My spine tingled. So there was a possibility I wouldn't be able to join the guild if this thing evaluates my power as no good. After the light had diminished, the receptionist girl carefully took away the device and looked at the results.

"Oh? What a surprise. For a child, you're quite a built-in hero, miss. This is a bit rare."
I sighed in relief at her remark.
"Does this mean I pass?"
"With flying colors, why not. Your might stats are more than 100, and so is your arcane, they are both superb. You're pretty lucky to have both being so high. I expect you will become a powerful adventurer someday."
She said earnestly while looking at the tablet that scanned me.
"But please don't neglect to polish your skills just because of that, okay? I have met many adventurers who've reached their demise because of their foolish overconfidence."
Although what she said was cruel and truly out of service, she still showed a smile on her face like she didn't say anything bothering her despite the fact I'm suspicious by covering myself fully. She guesses maybe I'm a vampire kid just like anybody thinks. What a scary person.
"Hey, hurry up will you?"
A displeased voice came from around me, I turned around and saw a young man in his 40s, he seems like a spear user adventurer. As to not cause trouble, I simply apologized.
"Sorry about that, I'm just registering as an adventurer."
He seemed flustered when I apologized. He closed his eyes and sighed instead of the usual battles that usually occurred around this time.
"Good grief, I'll go change lines. Registrations take so much time these days, that they should make a separate counter. Well, see ya."
And he left just like that, I guess he's a decent person who won't cause fights like those brutes I read about. I turned my head to face the receptionist girl to continue our talk from earlier, it didn't seem like there was anyone in line now anyway.
"Amazing, so you're cute and dressed decently enough to not get bullied or harassed by those bothersome male adventurers. You have a cool unique clothing you know"
The receptionist girl said with a voice of admiration. Was my character that badass? I do understand every character in my game was good looking though since if someone wants to make a character in the game, they would usually make it look handsome or beautiful like a hooded cloak assassin. And I happen to be one of those people who would make my appearance intimidating and not the one you should bother with.
"Thank you for the kind compliment, can we finish the registration now? There might come other adventurers who've got more important business than conversations."
I asked politely. She looked as if she's been assaulted by surprise.
"Y-You're right! Please wait here for a sec-"
And she disappeared again after shrinking from her seat to get another magic tool.
"Please wait for a bit more."
She said twice every 3 seconds before finally emerging and placing a magic device that looked like it was some sort of printer in my previous world. I can tell it's pretty heavy from the loud thud it caused, the receptionist didn't have much issue carrying it though, are all guild's staff strong?
"Please press both of your hands anywhere in this glass."
I did just as she asked and pressed my hands against the printer's glass. She began to explain once again as it did the same scanning the magic device earlier.
"This is another invention. Please don't be startled, it will scan your hand's precise patterns so that we can give you guild points each time you complete a quest."
"They're pretty great people, huh?"
"Well of course! They're after all the main reason analysis devices exist now. And the ones responsible for spellcasting research. Their inventions have proved incredible worth in the whole continent and their groups hold the same authorities as a king."
So this world also has devices like those in my previous life. Maybe someday it will advance so much that I may be able to use a smartphone again.
"If in the rare chance that you lose your guild card, we can renew it for you. Though of course, it costs money."
I nodded to imply that I comply. She showed me a sweet smile that one would only show to their lover and her affection towards me is becoming unbearable. It surprisingly made my heart race.
"By the way, hooded adventurer. What's your name? I need to know what your name is first to make your Guild Card. It's okay to use an alias but it's more appropriate and recommended to use your real name."
It's not like I'm wanted or anything in this world so it's okay for me to sign down my real name. Plus, I already told the adventurers I met earlier what my real name is so it's no use lying.
But what is the surname though? Should I use my previous life's name? No, I think I should discard everything depressing. Oh, the thing that intrigued me the most in science and math.
"Maria Snowflake."
"Maria Snowflake"
She repeated my name while typing something using the keys on the printer, she must be writing my name for the guild card.
"By the way, can I ask what your name is as well?"
I asked at the same time a "PEREERRE!" sound was heard from the printer. I could tell that my guild card was finished already. That was too quick not to lie. Though the sound was too funny, I can't help but laughed a little.
"Nolla Floatbubble, a receptionist of the Delyhde Provincial Town, Owiowi Kingdom's fifty-sixth Provincial Branch Guild. Beetledung"
She answered while giving to me my freshly made guild card.
"I see, nice to meet you, sister Nolla. Owiowi kingdom?"
What the hell naming sense was that?
With her business smile back on, she started explaining to me the Guild's rules and regulations. They were pretty easy to understand and the same went with the adventurer rankings.
First, Adventurers who commit a crime will have their license revoked. Including the history of their rankings and quests.
Second, Adventurers should not fight each other unless it's for self-defense.
Third, Adventurers can only accept quests that are at the same level as their rank. Doing these quests contrary to the warnings will not be given compensation or in other words, a reward.
Fourth, Adventurers are to report their completed quests within their deadline. If this is not done, the quest will be deemed a failure and they will be charged with money by the client. It will also reduce their guild points which are required for rank-ups.
Fifth, Adventurers who do not accept a specific number of quests for a year will have their adventurer's license revoked in the following year. The quest-taking expectancy is at least 70 times a year.
That's all for the rules and regulations. I guess they're all easy and it's not like I'll do any crimes or something.
“Would you tell me, what's your race, Little Maria?“
“Uhm, forgive me…”
"It's fine... Well, that's all the necessary information I will provide you, Maria. Welcome to the Beetledung Guild! I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!"
"Yes, thank you!"
I lowered my head and bowed to her to express my gratitude. She seemed to have been taken aback by it though and urged me to stop.
And so, after paying sister Nolla the registration fee of 5 nickel coins, I left the guild building. I realized that I still have two recommendation letters and hide them under my new cloak.
Luckily, I'm not tired or hungry. That means I have just enough energy to take one quest for today.
I entered the entrance of the Adventurers Guild.
Sister Nolla who saw me enter had a baffled look on her face since I just exited the guild a minute ago and now I'm back.
I looked around and saw at least thirty to fifty people flocking in front of the twenty quest boards that the guild has. I took the one on the right where there were the most amount of people and looked for the quests specifically for Rookie-level.
There were many kinds of quests which were mostly mundane tasks from the citizens such as lifting packages or healing injuries. The other was dungeon exploration and monster subjugations. Some were job-specific and the rest were generally for everyone.
I was interested in the "In need of a smart adventurer who can teach my son about mathematics” but of course, I wouldn't take something like that no matter how smart I can be, their math may be different from mine. That's why I'll take the monster subjugation quest in a townlet just northwest of the city. It wasn't that far since it's only two and a half kilometers away.
I reached out to take the quest, but before I raised it just enough, what I felt was not paper but flesh. I was holding someone's hands.
I frantically looked at who's the rough scaly hand I touched and saw no one when I looked to my right. I followed where the finger came from, I had to look down a bit and see a small lizard girl on my right trying to reach out to the monster subjugation quest. She couldn't reach it with her height.
"Um... Do you want this quest?"
I asked her nicely. She looked at me with a pair of her bored, dark-green vertical pupils and simply nodded. I instantly thought she was charming with that short aquamarine hair and cloak covering her whole body until I saw her pull a super huge staff out of her pocket. It was made of bending metal with tails intertwining and holding a blue crystal at its center.
It was twice her size?!
How the hell did that fit in her pocket?!
This is a fantasy world, stay calm. I shouldn't be surprised.
Suddenly, she pointed the tip of her staff at my head. What is she doing? She's not going to kill me, is she?
When I looked around, I saw some adventurers watching us. But why? Is this something big? Do they want to see someone's head blown off?
The next second later, the crystal inside her staff made a brief faint white glow. But nothing else happened besides that. For caution, I asked her in a trembling voice.
"Wh-What did you do to me?"
Although, she has scales on her skin and a long broad tail her appearance was that of a human.
“You, you aren't a vampire aren't you? If not, your head would be blown away by my holy magic”
“Just what are you, white girl? You didn't even damage a bit. Your cloak isn't special as mine nor your mask so I thought you've immunity against holy magic”
What?! Are you trying to kill me?!
I heard groans as many adventurers began to either shake their heads or mutter things I could hear from my distance, they were terrified.
Noticing that, the lizard girl turned her head to face those adventurers. I was shocked when they suddenly went quiet and continued their rambunctious conversations.
Nevertheless, I reluctantly asked her. This might be a beneficial event, a cliche as you call it my listener.
"What is it, madame?"
"White, you were going to take this quest, correct?"
"Yeah."
"Take me with you."
I looked at her intimidating figure and began hesitating.
"I know what you're thinking, I will destroy you if you keep offending me."
"R-Right!"
Okay, damn. I got into some big trouble again without even doing anything. I don't want to die yet. Curse you bad luck!

A Cleric's Life for me.
This is a casually written story loosely based on TTRPG games like DnD and Pathfinder. The attempt of the story is to have a slow growth in power and comical set of characters who eventually grow close and set off for more serious adventures. There will be plenty of familiars and funny tales that don't involve combat. The intention is not to be a goody-two-shoes cleric story where nothing bad happens. The intention for this story was a slow paced grungy story where everything seemed great at first and things just kept getting worse. I learned how shitty of a story that is to write and honestly I am just not good enough to get the idea down. I plan on revisiting it later.
