《Unknown Past》Volume 1 Chapter 5: The Illusion of Trust, Part 15: Oren's Perspective

Although fatigued, I keep running from Chates to the best of my ability. With my current amount of rhime, I only have about 40% left. I was lucky enough to get my rhime back when I was "revived," but my luck has run out again. This isn't me getting stabbed, this is me risking getting consumed! There won't be a body to revive!
Still running, I look around and see a tall skyscraper, possibly the tallest one within the immediate vicinity. Honestly, it looks like I have no choice.
(Soul Conversion 25...BEAT!!!)
I run towards the building and dig my sword into its side. Using it as anchor, I run upwards at full speed. Behind me, Chates takes flight and follows suit. As he flies upwards, I dodge to the left, jumping to the side and dig the sword back into the building. As he divebombs towards me, I dodge to the right. This dance continues until I reach the top. I seem to have miscalculated the distance between the buildings. At this height, attempting to jump between them is suicide. I frantically search for another option...
"RRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
(And now I'm cut off!)
Looming over me is Chates, wings spread out to prevent any chance of escape. With these wings and his succubus hands, he attempts to grab me. I do my best to dodge, occasionally getting a swing in with my sword. Once again, Chates only seems more irritated than in pain. Is the rhime starting to heal him like it did me?
I look at the sky and see that storm clouds are beginning to appear around the area where Hisashi was. I hope he's...
"GAH!"
(Crap! I got caught!)
Chates lifts me to his face. Or rather, his "new" face. He's slowly beginning to open his mouth.

I guess...everything I did up to this point really was a mistake.
KKYYYYYUUUUUUIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Following the sound of an electric guitar, a great shockwave blasts across the city, knocking me out of Chates's hands and almost off of the building!
(What...was that!?)
Following this guitar sound, acid jazz trumpets resound through the city. With each note, the sky becomes more chaotic. By the end of the fourth measure...
Multiple tornados touch down from the sky.
A chance to fight. A chance to teach.
What is more important?
A chance to kill. A chance to smile.
Which one lasts longer in your heart?
Twirling thoughts, chaotic hearts.
All found in the wind.
I look beyond Chates and see an even larger tornado, with a radius of 50 meters at least, beginning to take form! All the buildings around us are swept up in the turbulence. Even this skyscraper is beginning to sway. In a matter of seconds, the tornadoes disperse, creating a shockwave of wind. And, immediately following, the wind returns and begins to take human form.
Gradually the silhouette turns into a human with all his hair standing up. A human with wings of wind. The silhouette solidifies and begins to show tattoos of wind composed solely of rhime all over their body. And when I see the wind figure's face, I know.
It's Hisashi!
(How, how did he do that!?!?)
My emotions are like a turbulence,
Swirling in disarray.
But even without knowing everything
I know how I feel about you.
"Wind Drive: Almighty Tornado Barrrier!!!!"
A giant tornado, greater in width than this skyscraper is in height, begins to circulate around Hisashi's position, drawing the flying Chates in, and the two fight in close combat.
"Wind Drive: Solidified Tornado Blades!!!"
Two large tornadoes appear in Hisashi's hands, then the wind compresses itself to smaller vortices that solidify. Hisashi wields them much like he used to wield the blade I have now. Sharp nailed hands against blades. Counter to counter. Blow to blow. With each barrage of attacks, the two pick up speed to the point that it's nearly impossible for even myself to keep up with their movements!

I shall not hold back this gale
I shall let my feelings be known.
Listen to the wind.
And hear the heart of a teacher!
With the final blow for the close quarters bout, Hisashi's wind blades break, but Chates's nails shatter apart as well.
"Wind Drive: Hurricane Kick!!!!!"
Before Chates can react, Hisashi lands a clean kick in the succubus's chest, launching Chates backwards through at least 5 other buildings. He quickly gets up and rushes back towards Hisashi at full speed.
Don't cast aside your feelings.
They will return as a disaster.
Don't forget your past.
It will haunt you for eternity.
Reach out into the wind and don't let go,
For this will help you learn.
"Wind Drive: Almighty Tornado Barrrier!!!!"
This one catches Chates off guard, causing him to be sucked in and the vortex swallows him up.
My emotions are like a turbulence,
Swirling in disarray.
But even without knowing everything
I know how I feel about you.
I shall not hold back this gale
I shall let my feelings be known.
Listen to the wind.
And hear the heart of a teacher!
"The final blow!!!" Hisashi thunders.
Another solidified tornado blade appears in his hand.
"WIND DRIVE...."
Chates finally breaks from the tornado...and ends up right in front of Hisashi.
"ATMOSPHERE SPLITTER!!!"
Presently, a great tornado slash cuts through Chates, severing his body in half! With this final blow, Chates seems to explode in a large shockwave of rhime!
(Alright!!!)
But...the shockwave is still going!!!!!!
ZUBA!!
The skyscraper is hit, and I fall along with it!!
I look around for any falling debris to grab onto, hoping to use it to brace for impact, but it's no use! All I can do is fall! Fall to my death! The wind begins to pick up as Hisashi rushes towards me. This causes much of the debris to fly towards me as well. I slash at some of the large chunks with my sword to the best of my ability.
Until I receive a blow to my head, knocking me unconscious.

Stolen by the System
Lost. Vulnerable. Alone. What would you sacrifice to get home? Kidnapped on the cusp of graduation, Jake is dumped into a deadly world of levels and magic. His dreams shattered again, he’s left with a choice: fight or die – and Death won’t let him go that easily. A savage wolf, a horrific secret, and an abhorrent quest make day one the second worst day of his life. Whatever bastard is pulling the strings is due one hell of a reckoning. On the plus side, there’s magic, and Jake’s got the stats to master it. Spells not included, but, hey, creating spells and programming are basically the same thing, right? At least Spellcrafting is slightly less suicidal than trying to stop the encroaching dungeon spawn threat. Because why wouldn’t there be an apocalypse in progress. All the more reason to find his way back fast. Unfortunately, the path home leads right into the heart of danger. Fighting monsters, dungeon delving, solving puzzles – whatever it takes, Jake is finding his way home. He’ll need allies. Powerful allies, like a trainee ranger who struggles to find her hairbrush. Pointy ears, executive dysfunction, and a perilously gutsy moral compass – what more could one want in a Companion? Alas, beggars can’t be choosers. He needs every edge he can get. Going home means finishing his quest. That quest. The quest that doesn’t deserve completion. Save your father, save the world. Update Schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Temporarily ad hoc.

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
