《Return Of The Sovereign》Weeds

"Weeds! Where are you going?"
"Oi! Come back here!"
"Follow them!"
"That girl is pretty. I want her."
Kai didn't stop walking. Instead, he hastened his steps so he could reach the building before the group would catch up to them. This wasn't cowardice. He just felt it would be useless to get into a fight on the first day of coming into this place.
"Kai! They are coming our way! Aren't you going to do something?" Yumi asked. Surprisingly, her voice was calm. It did not contain a hint of panic. This made him frowned.
"No," he answered. At least, not now.
"Beast Tamers have no business here!" the booming words reverberated from the walls of the building. Slowly, a man wearing a long garment that looked like a robe. It reminded Kai of the clothes that he used to wear ten thousand years ago. "Leave." The man added, his gaze landed towards the group of men following them before shifting it towards Kai and Yumi.
"Stop being so arrogant! We can do everything that we want in this place." One of the men voiced out. This immediately attracted the attention of the man wearing the robe.
"Grimtooth's are not allowed in this area. Only plant masters are allowed to come inside our building."
"Oh, you call this a building?" The group started laughing.
"Are you going to leave? Or I use a potion that would make you blind for the next twenty-four hours?" This was enough to make the group quiet. They stared at the sparkling liquid in the man's hand before they gulped, their faces paled. It did not take too long for them to leave the place.
"People always assumed that they can just bully us." The man smiled at Kai and Yumi. "New students?" he asked. In response, Kai and Yumi nodded.

"I see. Call me Lek. I am one of the three second-year weeds in this school. I hate that word," he snorted. "Follow me. I will bring you to see your rooms."
Kai and Yumi followed him. Their footsteps soon echoed in the empty corridor as they walked inside the building.
"To be honest, I was not expecting to see anyone this year. Maybe one but two people at the same time… sounds a lot." Lek's clear voice echoed against the concrete walls. "Currently, we have less than ten people occupying this building. Three from the second year, three from the third year, and two from the fourth year. I believe you already know that this is not the best Academy for weeds. So not many people chose to come here." He led them towards the farthest room from the entrance. The door was located next to the stairs that should lead them to the second floor. Lek opened the door, revealing a lecture room with two people sitting and leisurely talking.
"Eh? First years?" A tall man stood. He beamed, showing his perfectly straight teeth to Kai and Yumi. "Two people at the same time?"
"I know! Strange, right?"
The man approached Kai and Yumi. "Call me Ambro, I will be your senior from now on." He held his hands towards Yumi. "What is your name, pretty lady?"
"Don't scare them, Ambro." The woman who was sitting next to Ambro started walking towards them, her long white hair flowed behind her as she smiled at them. "I am Idya Asteria from the Asteria family in Wren City. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Who is scaring them?" Ambro laughed, his hands touched his chin. "A face like this scares no one." His blue eyes gleam with mischief. "Isn't that right, younger brother?"

Kai and Yumi nodded in response. He wasn't expecting to actually meet someone from the Asteria Family – one of the noble families in this Academy.
"I am Yumi Lin."
"Kai Iggo. Nice to meet you."
"A handsome name for a handsome young man." Idya grinned. She held Kai's arms, rubbing her large chest against it.
"Oi Idya! What are you doing?" Ambro pulled the woman away from Kai.
"Now… Now… let's not embarrass ourselves in front of our juniors." Amusement was apparent in Lek's voice. "We are just dropping by, so I could introduce them to you. I am going to let them choose a room upstairs then give them a tour of the entire facility."
Surprisingly, both Idya and Ambro nodded, still beaming. "Alright." Idya winked at Kai. "I will give you the time to familiarize yourself. Then you can ask me anything." She made a deliberate pause. "And I mean anything."
"Same goes for you, young lady of the Lin Family." It was Ambro. Just like Idya, he also gave the younger woman a wink. In response, Yumi gave an awkward smile at the two.
After Lek and the others left the room, they went to the second floor. This time, relief flashed in Kai's eyes. The corridor on the second floor was clean and shiny, its walls sparkled under the light from the lamps on the wall.
"We have thermal windows for the cold. This place is hot during the summer, but we can all summon plants. Most of us just use it to give us some fresh air and use it to cool ourselves." While Green C Class Summoner and lower core colors can only summon one type of entity, the others above it can summon others as long as it is of the same affinity. Some higher rank Summoners can summon a combat class plant together with other lower plant classes and flowers that they can just used to decorate their room. Granting their psyche can handle it, they can even summon more combat class at the same time.
This is something that Kai was very much aware of. However, he is not sure if this process is still the same now.
"As you can see, the rooms that were taken already had people's names on the door. You can choose which room you like."
"Aren't we going to have separate rooms for the men and women?" said Yumi. She shifted her gaze towards Lek.
"No. There are eleven. Oops… I mean less than ten people now. It is best to stay together so we could help each other in case another one of those bullies would try to make fun of us again." He gave her an assuring smile. "Of course, if you prefer, you can always occupy a room on the third and fourth floor. Those two floors are completely empty."

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Daily life of a cultivation judge
Tired of those cultivators who think it is righteous to eliminate a sect or clan root and stem all in the name of revenge and avoiding future troubles, fights over treasures that end up destroying cities with no consequence whatsoever to the culprit, these psychos whose aim for the peak always involves a trail of carnage and bloodshed in its wake for some reason. Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
