《Core Of Malice》Prologue (Part 2): News From the Rumor Mill

"Did you hear? It was such a tragedy with that captain"
"I heard. One of his crew killed half of them in cold blood."
"Half? What happened to the others?"
"They died from some disease."
"It's spreading everywhere. It's terrible."
"Some are saying it isn't a disease."
"What was it then?"
"I heard from a friend, who works with the guards, that the crewmate who killed everyone claimed he was a higher demon once he got caught."
"A demon? That's absurd."
"It's true."
"They found the logbook of the captain. Apparently, they found an island in the Atlantic Ocean that wasn't there before. There was this cave filled with corrupted energy. Some say they opened the gateway to hell."
"An island?"
"Other explorers have tried searching for it, but none of them ever came back alive."
"Sailors dubbed it the Devil's Triangle."
~~~
"Demons escape the Cave of Malice as corrupted energy. It's why they possess bodies. Because they have none of their own."
"That, and they're also attracted to people whose essence contains a lot of negative energy.
"They call it 'corruption'."
"So, those sailors?"
"I hear they've been stealing treasure from other's ships then leaving them for dead afterwards."
"That's awful! How can we tell if someone's been corrupted?"
"No one suspects it until it's too late. They only know for sure when the physical symptoms start to show. Swellings filled with blood and pus are the most obvious."
"And by then, your essence is already consumed. You're as good as dead."
"Which you technically will be once the malice feeds on your core and consumes it whole."
"What? Why?"
"Your core is found in the middle of your chest, to the right of your heart. Once your core is corrupted, the malice spreads there, then flows through your blood. You really think you can live after that?"
"How scary."
"And you know what's worse? I hear the demons control you even after you die."
"Live cadavers."
~~~
"The Council Leaders held a round table today. Apparently, they formed a group of people who learned how to harness core energy into our weapons. They call them Reapers."
"Took them long enough. It's been 100 years since they found the Cave of Malice. You'd think they'd find a way to defeat those demons without having to hack up the host body and burning it before a full century has passed. Think of those poor families with no bodies left to bury of their loved ones."
~~~
"A protection sigil?"
"It's supposed to protect your house from demons. This way, they won't be able to possess you while you're asleep and your core is vulnerable. It's already imbued with core energy. All you need to do is slap this card right on your door."
"Someone made a purification sigil as well. It's meant for the Reapers to use."
"Only Reapers? How does it work?"
"You have to trace the sigil on the card with your core energy. Then place it on the host body's corrupted core. It'll expel the demon right out."
"And what of the person's essence?"
"If you don't catch it on time, then it'll be completely consumed, their core nearly corrupted. So, you'd still end up dead. But, at least, there's a body left for you to bury this time."
"200 years since then, huh. They really should've left the Devil's Triangle alone."
Dream of the Abyss
Elisa Mary Grant died in a hospital bed after being stuck in it for six months, and like any other, her soul drifted away from her husk when she passed. For her, death was a release. It merely meant that she no longer have to wake up in pain, breathing through tubes and have doctors flood her veins with dubious chemicals for “experimental treatment”. Free from her mortal constraints and useless body, she felt… at peace, serene, even. Death is bliss, after all, when objectively living sucked to the point of extreme. Therefore, there was no reason to mourn at all and she knew she definitely didn't. ... That was until, on her way for a proper reincarnation, she found herself rudely interrupted and left stranded in the great NoWhere. “Wonderful,” she remarked as she floated in the [Beyond], “Just when I thought that suicide is the answer.” Author's note: Updates every Tuesday-Wednesday, probably some time in between. ... P.S Notes: Contains existential questions and nihilistic themes, rather philosophical. Will be rather sluggish until the MC gets her shit together. P.SS Notes: Story takes time to develop. And maybe uncomfortable. It's not gonna be action-packed or filled with battles, I think. Anyway, it is kinda unusual. P. SSS Notes: It is not LitRpg. Don't be fooled.
The Genre of My Life Was Randomized?
The wheel spun and the genre changed. In every chapter, a new canvas made up of a thousand words was formed. I, the creator, do not know the future of this novel. I, the author, is but a mere slave that writes and creates what the wheel has given. What would happen after? What fate awaits the main character? When would you encounter the next chapter? Besides the latter, only the wheel could answer. Author's Note:Salutations dear reader. I'd like to dissuade you from reading this novel due to the following facts: 1. I am an amateur/new/beginner writer so it could be said that I don't know what I'm doing. 2. This novel is something which I wrote in order to hone my skills in adaptability, creativity, and writing in of itself. 3. Every chapter was made after spinning a wheel with the genres: Action, Horror, Romance, Comedy, Fantasy (as of writing) twice. The genres then would be showed in the chapter through theme, part of the story, flow, character, or whatever man idk. In case the wheel would show the same genre twice, the chapter itself would have the result as the main theme of the story with the other genres being free to use in order to fully show the theme. 4. I'm basically yoloing the story, trying to make sense of it even with the randomness of the current and future chapters; I swear I'm not a masochi.. *ahem* moving on, a variable left by the previous chapter won't suddenly just disappear because the next chapter doesn't have the same genre as before, meaning if a character that fits a genre was shown on let's say "Chapter 1", said character wouldn't just disappear or cease to exist for no reason at "Chapter 2" or the following chapters just because the character doesn't fit the genres. To make it short this isn't a collection of short stories but one big story instead. 5. Etc.
I'll simply work and write on this adventure when the mood strikes me. We may have 100 updates in one day, and not have any updates for 100 days... As for what it actually is?That's S. E. C. R. E. T!(In other words, I'm not certain where this story is going to take me yet. Decide for yourself if you want to follow along on the ride as I uncover where and what it's about as it grows and evolves!)
