《An NPC Challenges the Dark Lord(LN)》Vol 1. Chapter 9: The Dark Lord vs Immortality

[Flashback from Game God]
“Who are the five immortals again?”
“Do you want Perfect Data to get rid of your forgetful nature?”
“I’m just asking for the third time.”
“Fine let’s go over it. You won’t be able to kill them anyway.”
I was very confident Yami could not harm them.
“The First Immortal I’ve made is the child Sleep Emperor. Always with those starry pajamas. No one can touch the child. Within a radius of 5 meters, anyone that will attempt to come this close shall sleep forever. For now there is no cure or skill that harbors the immunity against the passive: Eternal Sleep.”
“Then I assume you’ve teleported the child to an uninhabited world.”
“Correct...in the past. Someone has taken the kid hostage and a few cities across the universe are in total sleep.”
“Then I must retrieve the child. Surely I can figure out the location of the puppeteer.”
“The next immortal is Mr. Dodge. There is no hitting this special NPC. Your accuracy stat means nothing. Therefore he is considered immortal.”
“I’ll test that someday.”
“The third is Dr. John...or whoever he or she or it is now. When he kills someone, he becomes that someone. When someone kills the doctor, the doctor still becomes that someone. An immortal I did not create but included in the game lore anyway. This is the only instance a Special NPC created a new skill from scratch...which I would consider illegal. Only System can create new skills.”
“Then I can kill him?”
“Nope, zero permission. He will only take over your body. I have not confirmed if he inherits the skills. This man can’t be punished.”
“The fourth is simply Frank. A tall and bulk monster with gray skin wearing all black from shirt to pants and hat including a black long coat. The skin is of course marked with tons of stitches. It is probably the creature with the highest regeneration rate and so fittingly acts as a vigilante in the World of Crime. Well there are no other special skills.”
“Well then I’d love a battle to test out my warrior skills.”
“It only comes back to life after you’ve obliterated it.”
“Who is the last?”
“The last is most likely to die and you can kill her but you won’t. There is officially no Lord of Space but if there was then the 5th, Rift would be. Rift is fast enough to create dimensions to leap into it...effectively preventing aging and protecting herself.”

“Then I should be the 6th as I can do the same.”
“The dimensions are like...a private server. You won’t be able to get her. If you try to trick her into entering your dimensions, she’ll just create one within yours.”
“Not even The Void?”
“Not even your greatest skill.”
“It’s not my greatest skill, I’ve reserved that secret for killing the Gods.”
“I look forward to your disappointment and failure plus the realization you cannot kill a God.”
[Present by Yami]
It was easy to locate Mr. Dodge since he’s all around Errd. Too bad he can’t dodge forever.
All these players are acting annoying again kneeling.
“Stand firm.”
Every player in The Human Kingdom stood up.
“Yo it’s the #1 player...”
“Does he really need to do Guild work??? I’ve checked his gold balance....”
“No no he might be looking for an artifact”
“Bruh this dude wiped out the top squad…”
All this chatter really flatters my strength but today...today is the only day I’m not sure I’ll win.
I entered the Heaven Bar and found the Immortal drinking with a woman.
“Take responsibility!”
“I did nothing!? Huh?”
“You hugged me...then something happened!”
“Stop screaming and we’ll talk this over!”
I did not expect a squeaky voice from the man. He wears oversized clothes and jeans. He almost looked bulky when I was looking through the window outside. Very thin, maybe that’s why he’s very fast.
“Mr. Dodge love activities with women are illegal in this game, especially an NPC. I have confirmed the woman’s words.”
She lied. I’m not letting them escape both. This is an annoying NPC that causes misunderstanding and one I’ll erase permanently during our eventual battle.
“Wait no Yami! That’s her dialogue! That’s the thing she’s meant to say to any player who enters the bar!”
“You’re a special NPC. She should not act that way then. How do you know NPCs have specific dialogues? Most Special NPCs don’t know.”
It was I that caused her to change behavior. When players are nearby NPCs lose all autonomy and do their designated dialogues.
He knows he can’t accuse me or I’ll be pissed.
The prey today seems easy to kill. Mr. Dodge was sweating and shaking all over.
“You have nothing to fear right? You’re an Immortal.”
“Nothing is sure against the Dark Lord...I’ve never tried being targeted by you.”

“Today is the day then. The Void.”
I searched my Void and he was not inside. Interesting. The first time someone was quick enough to escape upon casting. There’s plan B anyway with teleportation.
“Ah you’re here. Wonderful! You escaped upon cast.”
I could feel the fear of death. I’ve targeted someone without much confidence in their title. I usually fight against those with a bigger ego than I have but today is different.
This scary feeling should slow his reactions.
“Let’s try the needles”
“Please Yami I was innocent!”
I know but I need to know something else…
I’ve surrounded him with at least a million of the ash needles.
First I’ll throw the half sequentially at least in millisecond intervals.
Impressive he’s evaded all.
“I know you have some sort of magic that makes you disappear in order to evade. Do it.”
Time for simultaneous, I transported all the needles surrounding him at least one meter away from him for a sure kill. I made sure there are needles above his head and below his feet.
I was right, he dodged them all by disappearing briefly.
“I knew it you’re a fraud. I thought your evasive stats and skills were so high you’d be able to dodge anything but now I know you just have one dirty trick to dodge anything. You are no different from me. I can do the same.”
I disappeared and appeared right in front of him with increasing frequency until I felt like waves instead of matter. I stopped before I got dizzy.
“Please let me go! I’ve dodged everything. At least...I’ve lived up to my name.”
“Not yet. I forgot to tell you. I’m the Lord of Time.”
I stopped time and as expected he could not move. I expanded the space of The Void. I took my sweet time and looked down on the shorter man. I could not hold back the smile of victory and I think I smiled too much he should have s**t his pants.
“This time it’s over. I’ll accelerate it to the max.”
I glided high up and prepared for Planetary Devastation. I’ll use one twice as big as last time.
A second after I threw it, the impact should’ve landed.
The impact...failed. He was a few meters away from the planet...unharmed...still frozen in time. How?
I grew frustrated and summoned a million needles again, he’s not disappearing anymore but I can clearly see he’s avoiding them without the fine movements...He’s avoiding all my attacks crying, mouth open, arms and feet twisted together and all while frozen in time!
I gave up and did a Skill Check on Mr. Dodge. I copied his skill and included it in my arsenal. It was Perfect Evade all this time. No matter the situation, he will evade it. Now there’s two people with the same skill in this vast universe.
I could try blowing up a world while I’ve buried him deep within frozen in time but the results are likely the same.
“I did not completely lose.”
My pride was heavily wounded. I let go of the Time Stop.
“I’ve left multiple holes and rips in your clothes. So...to add another layer of evasion, you wear these oversized garments to avoid a wound.”
Mr. Dodge was about to take MY grin for victory but we both frowned in the end knowing defeat.
He finally noticed I managed to land a small cut across his left cheek before I even froze him in time. He touched it and I can guess, it’s the first time he saw his own blood.
“I’m not immortal after all...I’ve lost.”
“Nobody lost, No one won. Let’s keep the story that way. I’d never win because I’ll never land a hit straight through you, and you’ll never win because you can’t touch me along with all my attack immunities.”
I concentrated on my right hand and turned it to pale human flesh instead of ashes. We both took a serious handshake. An old man to old man handshake.
“I’d like another try sometime Mr. Dodge. Maybe I’ll find the right skill to hit you.”
“I’m just walking around trying not to die...”
I must search for the Sleep Emperor’s captivator. I left the world of Errd and began my search for the boy. I hope science doesn’t apply here. I don’t want Sam to be older than me when I return.
