《The Dungeon's Son》14. Power

Kaiser Remington
One week has passed after I got teleported here and this allowed me to have a better understanding of this place, the dungeon.
Due to Delphine’s help, I’ve been able to polish my mana body and grasp the basics of every element that I absorbed. Lucy, on the other hand, was being trained by Delphine as well even before I came to this place.
As Delphine and I agreed on my plan due to our same goals, she helped me make my own training routine to be fulfilled until the end of my stay here. The training routine that we’ve created is as follows: The magic training starts in the morning and it continues for six hours, after that, combat training comes after the break. This includes hand-to-hand combat, sword fighting, knife skills, and magic infusion to the weapon. Each training sessions have an hour or two breaks so that I can replenish my energy, Lucy also helps me to get my strength back.
In the dungeon, there’s also weather and time. This includes the daytime and nighttime as well. Delphine told me once that the time here and on the outside is the same that’s why I’ll be fine in coping up in this environment.
“Brother, will you also take us outside?” Lucy asked while she’s replenishing my body.
“Well, I don’t see a problem with it. You’ll just have to persuade Delphine.” I winked as I looked at her.
“Don’t slack off you two!” Delphine shouted. We’re currently sitting under the tree’s shade while Delphine’s at the bottom of the small hill. Even though we’re at the dungeon, there’s still something you can call the safe zone, and here is where we stay.
“No, we’re not!” Lucy shouted showing that she wants to spend more time resting here with me.
“Now Lucy. I’ll be going now okay? You can sleep all you want here.” I said as I stood up and patted her head.
“’Kay.” She pouted.
I lightly pinched her two cheeks before going down to train. “Silly girl. Of course, I’ll go play with you later okay?”
She smiled and nodded before I headed down.
“Ready?” Delphine asked.
“Of course.” I replied.
Delphine swiped her hand upward and a magic portal opened revealing the usual weapons we used to practice. “Choose what you prefer.” She offered.
“The sword please.” I pointed then she took it and gave it to me.
“I’ll be putting a weakening spell on that sword so that it can never cut while we’re fighting.” She said as she hovers her hand and directed magic on my sword.
“Why do we need to use this sword and not the wooden one?” I asked.
“Well, I saw your determination to learn so I want you to be used in holding out a real sword.” She replied as she took out her thin sword and casts a spell the same as mine.
Since I’ve been training for one week in her care, I’m able to slowly made progress in using this heavy sword.
“Now let’s start the duel.” She said as she took an offensive stance while pointing the sword at me.
“…” I didn’t respond to her and decided to concentrate my energy on my body. First is strengthening my defenses using my mana and second, reinforcing shadow magic to my sword. The rules that she created are fair and she wanted me to use all of my abilities and newly acquired elements. After my preparation, I took my favorite stance that I used in my past life – an offensive stance with a small opening on my defense.

Delphine, observing me, realizes that I’m ready and leaped right away. “Here I come! Brace yourself, Kaiser!”
Knowing that she’d win this duel, I’ve decided on a strategy to use and my goal is to use her force against herself. First I met her attack by also slashing my sword at hers, then, I used lightning magic to shock her and she immediately leaped back with only her hands shocked by my attack.
“Not bad.” Delphine said waving her hands.
“Thanks.” I said and smiled.
This time, I’ll take the momentum. I thought as I blast many balls of fire in front of her and as expected, she did block it all but it created a lot of dust as my decoy. I smiled as I took this new opportunity, I dashed and threw electric darts on the smoke of dust and jumped at the top of it then plunged my way down in the middle of the smoke.
“Bam!”
The sound of my plunged kick made as she blocks it with her right hand while my electric darts were stuck at her legs and left arm. “Good tactic. But can you get out of here?” Delphine said as she holds tightly to my foot then caged the two of us with earth magic reinforced with lightning.
“You’re not going anywhere.” She said as she lets go of me and pulled the electric darts off her body without getting hurt.
“Glad you like my attack.” I smiled.
“Feel free to follow me if you can.” She said as she disappeared in front of me and started to dash very fast around me. As a result, I can’t see her real self but only her after images.
I smiled and released water magic engulfing the whole arena’s ground then I punched it with my fist infused with ice magic turning all the waters into ice.
“What!?” I unconsciously said as she was no longer in the arena that she created.
“Are you surprised?” She shouted from the outside as she commanded the earth cage to close itself down at me.
“Then I have no choice but to use this.” I said to myself as I infused more shadow magic on my sword then slashed the earth magic closing at me. With that slash, it destroyed every earth magic revealing her in front of me then swept my foot and pointed her sword on my neck as I fall down.
“I surrender.” I said at her as I relaxed my body in my 133rd defeat.
“You still got a long way to go Kaiser. I love the strategy you made earlier but the magic you cast was weak.” She said to me.
“Hmm, I thought it was strong enough but it was not huh.” I depressingly said.
“You know Kaiser, it doesn’t matter how much magic you can use. It’s about how you use them appropriately.” She said.
“Okay.”
“Don’t be so down. Just like what I taught you earlier in the morning, focus on your mana body before releasing your magic.”
“Let me think about it. Can you give me a minute?” I requested her.
“Yes, you can.” She smiled.
I walked in front of the trees and prepared my sword at hand. I visualized my mana body and started to infuse fire magic on my sword. After a brief moment, I used my shadow magic but it seems that I can’t still use my shadow magic while I’m casting a non-shadow element. I used my lightning element together with my fire magic and infused them with my sword.

I let some air out of my mouth, opened my eyes, and made a full-forced diagonal slash. The amount of magic I released from my attack destroyed many trees in front of me and leaves Delphine in shock.
I fell down on my knees when the recoil from my magic use reached me. Delphine ran at me and asked me if I was okay. “Kaiser! Are you alright?”
“Of course, I was just tired from the recoil.” I replied.
“What was that?” She surprisingly asked.
“I just did what you’ve just told me.”
“Oh. Lucy! Come here and practice your healing magic at your brother.” Delphine shouted.
“Okay!” Lucy said.
“Did you see what I did earlier, Lucy?” I asked her as I struggled to stand up.
“Yes! Brother looks amazing! Don’t stand brother, I’ll heal you.” Lucy said as she puts her hand on my chest and replenishes my strength.
“Thanks, Lucy! You’re really a great help.” I told her while being healed by her.
“No problem brother!”
Delphine
“Now let’s start the duel.” I said to Kaiser as I put myself on an offensive stance.
“…” Oh, does he want to show something again?
After a minute of preparation, he formed himself to his favorite stance. Though it looks like he had a small opening, I’ll just break it.
“Here I come! Brace yourself, Kaiser!” I said as I leaped and dashed with my sword intently directed at him.
I grinned as he accepted my talking with his sword as well. What a mysterious kid.
There’s no way you could win this, Kaiser. I thought as I pressured him down but he grinned and released lightning magic from his sword shocking my entire hand. I jumped back and waved my hands to relieve the remaining shock. “Not bad.”
“Thanks.” He replied back with confidence. Guess he had something going on his mind.
He remained standing then after finalizing his strategy, he immediately fired balls of fire at me but they were weak so I deflected them all throwing them at my sides then the dust of smoke formed from the ground. What? It’s just a decoy? Cocky brat. I thought as I grinned.
At that exact moment, I was waiting for him to come at me so I looked around but instead of him, a group of darts started to hit my legs so I deflected them but it was too late. Some of it cut deeply, especially on my left arm.
As I was thinking about removing the smoke, I felt his presence coming from the top so I immediately prepared my right hand to catch him I did block his attack. “Bam!” The impact of his attack created a sound forming a crater below me.
‘Just how much of this strength he has left.’ I thought to myself.
“Good tactic. But can you get out of here?” I said at him as I hardly gripped his foot with my right hand and caging the two of us using my earth magic reinforced with my lightning magic to prevent him from escaping.
“You’re not going anywhere.” I said as I let go of his foot and started pulling the electric darts. ‘Tsk, this electric dart is starting to paralyze my body, I must end this duel.’
“Glad you like my attack.” He said as he prepared his sword again.
“Feel free to follow me if you can.” I said as I put more mana on my body as I increased my speed and dashed around confusing his eyes.
‘How will you respond to this, Kaiser?’ I thought. Kaiser just stands in the middle of the cage, smiling. He released a large amount of water engulfing the whole ground then punched it with his fist full of ice.
‘Goodbye, Kaiser.’ I smiled as I went outside through the hole that I set earlier.
“What?!” I heard him said as it echoed through the enclosure. “Are you surprised?” I asked him.
The paralysis was coming to its effect stage so I decided to finish this duel.
I commanded the earth cage to crush Kaiser but as it was closing down, he slashed it with his sword infused with shadow magic. It destroyed my earth magic and rubbles started falling down.
I smiled as I dashed right in front of him, swept his foot, and pointed my sword right at his neck.
“I surrender.” He said.
“You still got a long way to go Kaiser. I love the strategy you made earlier but the magic you cast was weak.” There were parts of his magic that are dull and some of it was effective just like the electric darts that he threw.
“Hmm, I thought it was strong enough but it was not huh.” He depressingly said.
“You know Kaiser, it doesn’t matter how much magic you can use. It’s about how you use them appropriately.” I told him as a piece of advice.
“Okay.” He replied.
“Don’t be so down. Just like what I taught you earlier in the morning, focus on your mana body before releasing your magic.” I said to him.
“Let me think about it. Can you give me a minute?” He requested.
“Yes, you can.” I replied as I smiled at him knowing that he has something on his mind again.
He walks in front of the trees and prepared his sword. After a brief moment, he combined his fire and lightning magic infusing the two of them on his sword. Then, what happened next was impossible, he made a full-forced diagonal cut on the trees and it destroyed a total of eleven trees, fully cut in half and was brimming with the residual fire and lightning effect. Kaiser falls down as he exhausted himself. I ran to him and called Lucy to heal him.
Looking at him, he sure has the power to defeat the shadow worshippers and the demon king’s vessels as well. I hope he won’t get angry at me if I told him the thing that I did to him, though it was for his own good.
“Sorry, Kaiser.”

Mordheim: Servants of The Damned (A Warhammer Fantasy Fiction)
“The Great Library,” Stated the stranger with a pause. “You know of it?”“Of course I do. In the Merchant’s Quarter?”“Yes, in the Merchant’s Quarter. I have gathered that there is an… artefact of importance within its walls.” Slowly, the figure produced a rusted key from the furls of his robes and held it in a black-gloved hand. “This opens the door to its chambers. It is the grimoire of Gunnar von Krugenheim, and I believe that it would serve better in the world than locked away in a dusty room.” Behind the cursed walls of Mordheim, warbands and gangs of all stripes are embattled in constant wars for resources and power. The cursed city attracts throngs in the thousands, searching for treasures, artefacts, power, and sometimes all three. The Cult of the Hidden Brethren is no exception, and when an opportunity to extend their reach is discovered, the cultists are eager to take the opportunity. I of course, lay claim to nothing in this story but the characters I have created, and the core events of the story itself. This is my first true foray into fantasy writing, let alone Warhammer Fantasy, therefore any feedback is welcome. (It should be noted as well, the cover art is merely an artwork I found online and is not mine, therefore I do not lay claim to that either.)

Ergo the dragon is enjoying his seasonal hibernation when human explorers from another world invade his lair. Sucked into an unknown land, and reduced to a fledgling dragon by the loss of his hoard; Ergo must struggle to survive in a world that has been utterly subjugated by humanity. More importantly, will he ever get to finish his hibernation!? note: while I ticked the boxes for sexual/traumatizing content, I mostly did that to keep my options open. I don't currently have any planned, nor do I expect it to be a significant part of the story. After all, the main character is literally a dragon.
